The Fall of a Media Icon
“Bif: If I were you, the last thing I would be doing is referencing other people getting out of federal prison. Because after you are indicted, you will likely be passing them on your way in. BTW, they don’t have silver spoons or gold toilets in the joint. Buckle up Buttercup.”

We the People

Once upon a time there was a lawyer who represented a porn star. He became a media darling not because he representing a porn star, but because he was representing her in a case against a President the media despised. In the case of the porn star he sought to invalidate a nondisclosure agreement involving the President. I never understood how one can simply violate an agreement in which the person has already accepted payment for their silence. I guess my instincts were right - he lost that one big time. A federal judge dismissed the defamation lawsuit and ordered the infamous "Stormy" Daniels to pay President Trump's legal fees. That fact, like many others, got lost along the way. It seems the cocky lawyer, who threatened to take down a President, had become a beloved figure by the left wing media.

The lawyer became a household name. His name was Michael Avenatti and his road to stardom was paved with his attacks on the President via various legal issues from Stormy Daniels to Michael Cohen. In the end he was exposed as a devious liar, but prior to his downfall, he was heralded as the man who would take down Trump!

The media even fancied him as a presidential candidate!  It seems the only media outlet not to be taken in was Fox News. As a matter of fact it was Fox's own Tucker Carlson who challenged him to come on his show. Tucker had already been describing him as " the creepy porn lawyer. " Avenatti accepted and it didn't go well for Avenatti. Funny, how easy it is to stand up to a bully. Well done Tucker! Fox News can stand tall at a time when American journalism no longer exists in certain places.

In 2018, during the Kavanaugh hearings, Avenatti announced that he had a client who made additional allegations against Kavanaugh, as both a witness and a victim of his inappropriate behavior, and that she would soon come forward publicly. She turned out to be yet another of the false accusers rolled out during the democrats scheme to defame & topple Judicial nominee Brett Kavanaugh.

Thus began the fall of America's most vocal celebrity lawyer. To date Michael Avenatti has been indicted on charges of extortion, fraud, and embezzlement - including stealing millions from a paraplegic client. Prosecutors maintain that Avenatti continued to engage in criminal acts even after his indictment.

But what of the media which once had him appearing on TV on an almost daily basis?  They worshiped the man because of all the mean spirited things he said about the President. Now they are silent. Avenatti's once infamous boast's against the President and his son are hard to find on the internet. It's like he never existed.

Avenatti will get the justice he earned, but what of the liberal media?

Where is their reckoning?

CNN, MSNBC Have Given Stormy Daniels Lawyer Michael Avenatti $175 Million in Earned Media

108 appearances by Avenatti on MSNBC and CNN over a 64-day period from March 7 to May 10

108 appearances. In only two months. There aren’t even 108  days in two months! Worth $175 million. That’s how.

And that's not counting his appearances on left wing broadcast networks.

Published   April 11

The Media Research Center has  determined  that Avenatti made a whopping 254 television appearances over the course of a year

Avenatti appeared most frequently on CNN, which welcomed him an astonishing 121 times. MSNBC also had a high tally, having him on 108 times. He made 24 appearances on broadcast news; 12 on ABC, seven on CBS and five on NBC.

Avenatti appeared on Fox News twice.

Roughly 70 percent of his television appearances took place between March and June of 2018 as his client’s legal battle with the president repeatedly made headlines.

"NEW YORK (Reuters) - A federal judge on Wednesday revoked Michael Avenatti's bail after the celebrity lawyer and critic of U.S. President Donald Trump was accused of hiding money from creditors, triggering a delay in a separate trial where Avenatti is charged with trying to extort Nike Inc.

U.S. District Judge James Selna remanded Avenatti to federal custody at a hearing in Santa Ana, California , where prosecutors had charged him last March with stealing millions of dollars from clients, defrauding a bank and lying to the Internal Revenue Service and a bankruptcy court."

In a Wednesday court filing, Cohen asks for the more lenient sentence because he’s spent “approximately 170 hours providing testimony to some eight different governmental agencies, in furtherance of their duties and obligations.”

I find it fascinating that apparently no one on the right blames Trump for anything that his known business partners and attorneys did for him. If this had been Bill Clintons attorney who got caught paying off porn stars to keep their mouths shut during Hillary's campaign for President, paying them hundreds of thousands smack dab in the middle of the 2016 campaign season, would you be as dubious of his claims? Would you be saying "Well, Bill and Hillary likely had no knowledge of this rogue attorney who was acting on his own behalf and is now throwing them under the bus simply to keep himself out of jail"? Really?

Peter 's Denial Of Christ. Another use is to  deny , as used in Peter’s denial of Christ. His denial is  ironic  because instead of denying himself,  Peter denies Christ , doing the exact opposite of what a disciple should do. He is afraid of suffering along with Jesus even though that is part of the cost of discipleship.

What total bullshit. Apparently you've either forgotten or never learned what fascism actually is.

Fascism: noun - a political philosophy, movement, or regime that exalts nation and often race above the individual and that stands for a centralized autocratic government headed by a dictatorial leader, severe economic and social regimentation, and forcible suppression of opposition.

The white nationalism and support for the wannabe dictator dishonest Donald are far closer to the definition of fascism than progressives who want justice and equality for all.

"(Kim Jong Un) speaks and his people sit up at attention,I want my people to do the same." - Donald J Trump

“Anybody wants to come in. Dictators? It’s OK. Come on in. Whatever’s good for the United States. We want to help our people,” - Donald J Trump

“With all of the Fake News coming out of NBC and the Networks, at what point is it appropriate to challenge their License?” - Donald J Trump

Most Trump supporters = experienced fascists.

Ah but history tells us a different story.

Historically speaking Fascism has been a type hyper nationalism that rejects individual liberty.    Rejecting individual liberty?    That’s progressive territory not conservative.

Fascism has usually been hostile to religion.    More progressive territory not conservative.

Mussolini, arguably the original Fascist, more or less invented the totalitarism of Fascism.     Working towards a society where everybody belonged, where everyone was taken care of, where everything was inside the state and nothing was outside of the state.     Sounds like a progressive to me

The only BS here is the supposition that progressives can’t have fascist tendencies.    They can and do.

Nationalism is best described as an identification with one's own nation and support for its interests, especially to the exclusion or detriment of the interests of other nations.

Does anyone want to debate that?

Nationalism and patriotism both show the relationship of an individual towards his or her nation. The two are often confused and frequently believed to mean the same thing. However, there is a vast difference between nationalism and patriotism.

Nationalism means to give more importance to unity by way of a cultural background, including language and heritage. Patriotism pertains to the love for a nation, with more emphasis on values and beliefs.

When talking about nationalism and patriotism, one cannot avoid the famous quotation by   George Orwell , who said that nationalism is ‘the worst enemy of peace’. According to him, nationalism is a feeling that one’s country is superior to another in all respects, while patriotism is merely a feeling of admiration for a way of life. These concepts show that patriotism is passive by nature and nationalism can be a little aggressive.

Patriotism is based on affection and nationalism is rooted in rivalry and resentment. One can say that nationalism is militant by nature and patriotism is based on peace.

Most nationalists assume that their country is better than any other, whereas patriots believe that their country is one of the best and can be improved in many ways. Patriots tend to believe in friendly relations with other countries while some nationalists don’t.

In patriotism, people all over the world are considered equal but   nationalism   implies that only the people belonging to one’s own country should be considered one’s equal.

A patriotic person tends to tolerate criticism and tries to learn something new from it, but a nationalist cannot tolerate any criticism and considers it an insult.

Nationalism makes one to think only of one’s country’s virtues and not its deficiencies. Nationalism can also make one contemptuous of the virtues of other nations. Patriotism, on the other hand, pertains to value responsibilities rather than just valuing loyalty towards one’s own country.

Nationalism makes one try to find justification for mistakes made in the past, while patriotism enables people to understand both the shortcomings and improvements made.

Summary:

Patriot: Expresses the emotion of love towards his country in a passive way

Nationalist: Strives for independence and the interests and domination of a nation and expresses his love or concern for the country in an active political way.

I was wondering why you wouldn't simply return to Merriam-Webster, which gives a contrast of Patriotism vs Nationalism. BTW nobody here seems to think they are one in the same.

Imo a very accurate one.

Actually it puts Nationalism in a negative light. I wonder why?

It's not that hard. Just take a deep breathe, accept that Bill Clinton was a lying scum bag adulterer like many politicians, which in no way excuses other lying scum bag adulterers like dishonest Donald. Realize that you don't have to take sides, you can condemn them both as both are reprehensible bastards. Try and understand that you are the only one who should get to decide your own standards of morality, don't let others make those decisions for you, whether coming from the left or the right. Stop letting yourself be manipulated into defending worthless scum bags like Avenatti, Trump or Clinton due to some desperate desire to belong to one side or another. Condemn bullshit wherever it may rear its stinky brown head.

The lack of that shows that some still held and  hold the hope that he would have brought Mr. Trump to his knees. As am I. How anyone can look at the long history of disgusting comments, abuse of power, obstruction of justice, obstruction of congress, is currently an unindicted coconspirator in an illegal campaign finance case where his coconspirator is already serving jail time, has been credibly accused by more than two dozen women of sexual assault which he himself described saying he doesn't "even wait" for consent and just grabs women he finds attractive "by the pussy". The monumental lack of criticism from right wing media is deafening and proof that whenever they get all angry and bitter over the left not coming down harder on law breakers and scum bags that they're really just scum bag hypocrites themselves desperate to deflect and distract from their own failings.

Avenatti is a self-promoting ambulance chasing scum bag that virtually no one had heard of before he chased Stormy's ambulance. The fact that CNN and other media outlets gave him a soap box isn't really that unusual, the "media" has let all sorts of crazy people express themselves on the networks. They've given air time to the likes of David Meade and many other nut job "doomsday" predicters. Heck, all the news networks, right wing and left, give the most air time ever to a known liar with over 15,000 confirmed lies, is an unindicted coconspirator in an illegal campaign finance scheme who has been accused of sexual assault by more than two dozen credible women. I have no problem criticizing Avenatti, he's a total scum bag, but so is the current President of the United States, so I have a hard time placing any blame on the media for their coverage of his claims.

Definitely not when it comes to CNN, MSNBC and other "left" media outlets these days....for sure !

https://thefederalist.com/2019/03/28/cnn-and-msnbc-made-shakedown-artist-michael-avenatti-a-household-name/

Avenatti was interviewed on broadcast and cable news networks 214 times in 2018, spanning from March to November. Presumably, the only reason the invitations eventually came to halt was Avenatti’s November 14 arrest for allegations of domestic abuse.

The Media Research Center found that in a 10-week span last spring, from March to May, Avenatti was interviewed a whopping 147 times. Neither of those totals include additional segments about Avenatti, where he was the subject of news, but not interviewed. In 2018, CNN gave him the most airtime, with 107 live interviews. MSNBC came in a close second at 81.

Avenatti had a similar marathon run on Sept. 26, the day he revealed the identity of his client, the third Kavanaugh accuser. In less than 24 hours, starting on MSNBC and ending with an appearance on “Good Morning America,” he was interviewed on nine different television shows. At one point, he bounced from CNN at 9:00 to MSNBC at 10:00, then back to Don Lemon’s show on CNN in the same hour.

CNN hosts did not just reserve their affection for Avenatti to working hours. They invited him to their parties, and lauded his ambitions to run for president in 2020.

Should I link all the air time FOX gave to the longest sitting Republican speaker of the House Dennis Hastert? You know, the Republican who raped kids and then paid millions to try and keep them quiet. He was often given a soap box at Fox and other right wing media outlets. I'm sure they had no clue as to his criminal activities, much like CNN had no clue about Avenatti's illicit acts. Are we really going to go back through everyone the right and left have given air time to in some moronic attempt at one ups-man-ship? It seems rather ridiculous and doesn't actually prove anything about any of the networks other than they're all willing to give air time to anything they think might get them ratings.

They are when others here are trying to claim that only "left wing" media outlets give criminals a platform to dispense their bullshit. Trying to claim this is a "left wing" only problem is beyond dishonest. I have no problem calling out the slime when I see it regardless of what network it's on. Avenatti is a slime ball, so was Denny Hastert and dozen of other high ranking Republicans through the years who spouted off on right wing news networks then were found out to be disgusting criminals. Final thoughts:

Michael Avenatti, got what he deserved. As for the dishonest liberal media, which gave him a platform & promoted him, there have been no consequences. Everything they have done seems to be absolved with a simple retraction/apology.

There were two exceptions. One is CNN which has suffered a dramatic loss of viewership and has made a settlement with Nick Sandman amid other lawsuits.

The other - Fox News which has stood alone, never taken in by Avenatti or the Russia hoax.

Good night all
