The left's fine statesman says we can't trust the voters
“The president’s misconduct cannot be decided at the ballot box, for we cannot be assured that the vote will be fairly won,” Schiff said.

We the People

The man who famously lied about having evidence of Trump/Russia collusion has now told us that American voters cannot be trusted to determine the next election. Finally, it's out in the open! The man whom leftist news commentators have been swooning over all week has come right out and told us the reason for this impeachment scam. All credibility for arguments of the President trying to influence an election rather than trying to find out what was done in the last are now gone.

“The president’s misconduct cannot be decided at the ballot box, for we cannot be assured that the vote will be fairly won,” Schiff said.

It probably had to happen. The habitual liar had been making an endless personal plea since Tuesday. Many hours of public speaking has finally taken it's toll. Schiff has finally bared his soul. He doesn't trust the American people.

The prosecution's opening arguments are to be wrapped up today and believe it or not the President's defense team will get their chance to speak starting Saturday (How many will be watching on a Saturday?)  If anything, Schiff has solidified Republicans and may have alienated some moderate democrats.

I think Shithead Schiff has finally entered the Twilight Zone. I am sure that the voters will be pleased that the Dems don't trust them. I find it hard to believe that the Dems are so far out of touch with the vast majority of the American people and consider them to be stupid. I wonder if the coming election will educate them to reality!

I believe the Washington Post, the New York Times, and other publications have a full list of all the lies and misleading statements available. You can find a list there.

By the way, Trump hasnt told 16000 separate lies and false statements. A good number of them are repeats. He lies about something and doesnt get called out about it by his supporters, and so he repeats it over and over at rallies and whatnot.  For example, he has told the lie that the whistleblower was "completely wrong" a reported 80 times. Not only was the whistleblower not "completely wrong", and Trump knows that,  the whistleblower was almost completely accurate.

Their deep-seated hatred of him due to resentment because Hillary lost won't allow for his minor exaggerations, and they clearly don't understand Trump's sense of humor and body language. To the haters, Trump's exaggerations, humor, and body language/gestures are lies and impeachable offenses.

I know this is an utter waste of time, but I will say it anyway.

Trump asked Zelensky to announce an investigation of Biden, and then Trump lied about it.

According to you guys, Trumps lies have no ramifications.

If the whistleblower had not come forward, there would be an "announced" Ukrainian "investigation" into Joe Biden underway today.  Since there is nothing to investigate, it would be a fake "announced" investigation, being made to ensure that President* Trump would remain amenable to helping Ukraine. The blackmailing of Ukraine would be ongoing.

The effect in the US would be that Trump would get to preface every mention of Joe Biden , who is leading the Democratic presidential field at this point, with the characterization that Biden is "dirty" because he is being investigated by Ukraine.  No one would know that this this "investigation" by Ukraine was the result of Trump blackmailing them.

For the rest of the 2020 election Trump would be regularly letting everyone know that Joe Biden was under current investigation by Ukraine, for corruption in that country.

It is highly possible that, without the whistleblower,  Trump would be able to smear Biden's campaign , and get away with it, at least in the eyes of those who dont care that Trump has lied 16,000 times.

How many other of those 16,000 lies have led people to misunderstand issues or situations, or disregard the truth in dozens or hundreds of other circumstances?

It is IDIOTIC to suggest that 16,000 lies by the president of the United States have no effect on anything, unless we have the philosophy that nothing anyone says , ever,  means anything either.

If trump's 16,000 lies dont mean anything, then why does it bother you that people mention them, after all, complaints about the lies dont mean anything either, using your logic.

He has no need to do that.   Obama and his minions squashed all of the investigations into hunter.  You know when Joe threatened to withhold aide if the prosecutor wasn't fired within 6 hours.

Virtually nothing you typed is worth responding to , so I will combine any comment I have to you into one.

After Russian troops seized and occupied the Crimean peninsula in the spring of 2014 — the first post-Cold War territorial takeover by Moscow — Ukraine rose to the top of the Obama administration agenda. Obama essentially outsourced the portfolio to his vice president — a task, by most accounts, Biden enthusiastically embraced.

“Ukraine was the top, or one of the top three, foreign policy issues we were concentrating on,” said Mike Carpenter, Biden’s foreign policy and defense policy advisor at the time. “He was front and center.”

On one trip, in February 2014, Biden watched anti-government protesters fill the streets of Kyiv in what became known as the Maidan revolution. Within months, the pro-Russian government was ousted and replaced with pro-Western leaders.

Former aides described Biden’s work after that as a kind of “marriage counseling,” getting the newly elected president, Petro Poroshenko, to cooperate with the prime minister, Arseniy Yatsenyuk, a political rival.

Known for his bluntness, Biden warned them that Ukraine could not be seen as a “basket case” or allies would lose patience. “And then you’d be screwed and left at the mercy of Moscow,” a former aide recalled Biden telling the men.

Ukrainians say Biden’s most important contribution was showing that Washington would support Ukraine as it struggled to remain independent of Russia.

“Vice President Biden stood up strongly for Ukraine, and many of my fellow Ukrainians were very grateful,” said Danylo Lubkivsky, a former deputy foreign minister. “The important thing is that the support that Biden represented was bipartisan.”

Few here doubt that Hunter Biden was offered a lucrative position on the board of Burisma Holdings, a natural gas company controlled by a controversial businessman, because of his father’s prominence.

It’s common in Eastern Europe, and much of the world, to hire a celebrity or relative of a senior official to burnish a company’s image, and to help shield it from official or unofficial shakedowns.

But the optics gave ammunition to Trump and his lawyer, Rudolph Giuliani. They have falsely claimed that Biden pressed Poroshenko’s government to sack its top prosecutor, Viktor Shokin, to prevent him from investigating Burisma.

Current and former U.S. and Ukrainian officials say Burisma had been under scrutiny for alleged improper acquisition of licenses, a probe unrelated to Hunter Biden’s position on the board. The investigation went dormant, they said, before Biden and a group of U.S. allies pushed for Shokin’s ouster in 2015, arguing he was turning a blind eye to corruption.

In December 2015, Biden gave an impassioned address to the Rada, the parliament, to condemn the scourge of corruption and demand reform of the prosecutor general’s office.

“The parliament exploded in applause,” Boryslav Bereza, who was present, recalled this week. “Even those who were corrupt as hell, they were electrified and sincere in their applause.”

Biden “was like the big brother coming to tell the little brother what to do — a recommendation that you can’t ignore,” Bereza said.

The vice president had planned to announce $1 billion in U.S. loan guarantees for Ukraine. But en route to Kyiv on Air Force Two, Biden changed his mind.

Poroshenko was dragging his feet building the institutions needed to take on corruption, aides said. Biden and his staff rewrote the speech, removing the loan guarantees.

In Kyiv, Biden privately informed Poroshenko of the decision and the demand: Fire Shokin, or you lose the loan guarantees.

“Poroshenko was clearly disappointed,” said Colin Kahl, Biden’s national security advisor at the time.

In an interview, Poroshenko recalled “heated” but cordial discussions with Biden.

He said the loan guarantees were contingent on meeting International Monetary Fund benchmarks, including replacing the prosecutor general. Biden was not alone in his demands, Poroshenko said.

“Pressure on us came from everywhere: the activists, political forces, embassies, international organizations,” he said, adding that the names of Hunter Biden and Burisma never came up.

In the eight days before Shokin was fired in March 2016, Biden phoned Poroshenko four times to reiterate the U.S. position, former aides said. The Ukrainian leader finally relented, and Shokin was sacked.

Western diplomats saw Shokin, who still sometimes wore his old Soviet-style uniform, as a relic of a stultified system and a “pay-to-play” prosecutor. Shokin, who declined to be interviewed for this story, blames his ouster on an illegal foreign intervention in Ukraine’s domestic affairs.

“My actions as General Prosecutor did not suit the interests of the U.S. Vice President Biden and the persons connected to him,” Shokin said in an affidavit filed Sept. 4 in an Austrian court on a separate case. He said Biden was motivated by his son’s connection to Burisma but offered no evidence.

Ukrainian officials say the inquiry into alleged improprieties at Burisma has never been completely closed.

“The Burisma case is still there; it’s up and down,” a senior Ukrainian official said, speaking on condition of anonymity to discuss sensitive matters. “But the Burisma case and a Hunter Biden case are totally different things, and the latter simply does not exist.

Furthermore, Schiff argued, “The president’s misconduct cannot be decided at the ballot box, for we cannot be assured that the vote will be fairly won.” Democrats don’t trust the American people to judge for themselves whether Trump deserves to remain in office. Schiff’s statement is Hillary Clinton’s “ deplorables ” comment repackaged. This is simply how Democrats think about vast swaths of America, proving that they’re not really after Trump; they’re after you, the voter. Ever since Trump defeated Clinton, Democrats have been seeking to impeach the vote of the American people.

So your posit is that those at the highest level of our IC are influenced by 'hysteria perpetrated by the left'. That doesn't bode well for any claim that Trump only hires the 'best people'.

But, the Democrats are doing all in their power to insinuate that Donald Trump and the GOP will succeed where Hillary Clinton and the DNC failed.  Rig an election, like Clinton and the DNC did against Bernie Sanders.

That claim isn't irrational.

Yes, it is, because we have several mechanisms in place for assuring and confirming the fairness and honesty of our elections. The last presidential election is the obvious example. Even though it is well documented that Russian actors published propaganda or even hacked computers, the election itself was still legitimate and fair. That was confirmed repeatedly from the local to national level.

What Schiff did on the floor of the Senate is what leftists from MSNBC to Hillary Clinton have done since Trump was elected: try to make Americans think that because of foreign interest and interference, their votes and elections are literally being stolen from them.

This tactic is dishonest and irresponsible, particularly coming out of the mouth of a member of Congress.

he has to insult the American people as well.

Nope, he was reiterating the FACT Russia interfered in 2016 to help elect Trump.  And Trump has been deferential and beholden ever since.

In the Summer of 2016, when victory for Clinton was considered assured, Democrats claimed to challenge the results of an election was a "direct threat to Democracy."

Now, in fear of losing again, they are preemptively declaring an election suspect so they can keep of their narrative that any Republican win is illegitimate alive.

Russia interfered to help Trump - FACT.   Trump and gop have done nothing substantial to make elections more secure, and in fact Trump had forced Ukraine to help him until the dam burst.  So of course they are still doing it, and the entire gop is ignoring it, and in fact many have been tainted with dark money from Russia.   Why don't you deal with the reason our elections are at risk even more than they were 3 years ago.

Fact, Russia interfered in the election to sow discord among Americans. Thanks to the Democrats and their lemmings they are succeeding beyond Putin's wildest dreams.

Fact the left chooses to ignore the fact that the Russian bots sponsored anti Trump groups and events as well.

The demonstration in New York City, which took place a few days after the election, appears to be the largest and most successful known effort to date pulled off by Russian-linked groups intent on using social media platforms to influence American politics.

Sixteen thousand Facebook users said that they planned to attend a Trump protest on Nov. 12, 2016, organized by the Facebook page for BlackMattersUS, a Russian-linked group that sought to capitalize on racial tensions between black and white Americans. The event was shared with 61,000 users.

As many as 5,000 to 10,000 protesters actually convened at Manhattan's Union Square. They then marched to Trump Tower, according to media reports at the time.

The BlackMattersUS-organized rally took advantage of outrage among groups on the left following President Trump’s victory on Nov. 8 to galvanize support for its event. The group’s protest was the fourth consecutive anti-Trump rally in New York following election night, and one of many across the country.

“Join us in the streets! Stop Trump and his bigoted agenda!” reads the Facebook event page for the rally. “Divided is the reason we just fell. We must unite despite our differences to stop HATE from ruling the land.”

While the focus has been on Russian efforts ahead of the election, the BlackMatters rally days after Trump's victory shows that Russian-linked social media influence efforts continued after the election.

The BlackMatters organizing group was connected to the Internet Research Agency, a Russian “troll farm” with ties to the Kremlin, according to a recent investigation by the Russian Magazine RBC. Facebook has identified the Internet Research Agency as the group responsible for purchasing 3,000 political ads on Facebook’s platform and operating 470 accounts that appear to have attempted to influence the perspectives of Americans during the 2016 elections.

Russian interference didn't end with Trump's election victory.

Shortly after the November vote, the Russians helped organize several pro-Trump rallies at the same time they organized anti-Trump protests, calling on people to object to the election results.

On November 12, the Russians helped coordinate an anti-Trump rally that drew as many as 25,000 people, according to NBC News .

Fox News reported that Michael Moore, the prominent documentary filmmaker who strongly opposes Trump, attended that rally.

About a week later, the Russians organized a protest called "Charlotte Against Trump" in North Carolina.

These rallies represented just a fraction of the dozens of other rallies that took place in cities across the US after Trump's victory.

The Russians were also allegedly responsible for organizing other rallies throughout the 2016 campaign, although these were not outlined in Mueller's indictment.

According to The New York Times , a group of about a dozen protestors in Houston, Texas, met to protest "the threat of radical Islam" in May 2016. That group was met with dozens of counter-protestors, drawing a large local police presence.

Both groups were organized by Russians.

The Russians were also accused of promoting discord after the election by simultaneously holding New York rallies, one in support of Trump’s victory and another under the name “Trump is NOT my President!” according to an indictment released Friday by U.S. Special Counsel Robert Mueller. There was a separate post-election, anti-Trump rally in Charlotte, North Carolina.

Thank you for making Putin's job that much easier.

As for the rest of your bogeyman rant. Prove Russia changed even 1 vote during the 2016 election. The only entity the Russians hacked successfully was the DNC; who lied about it, and tried to cover it up from the FBI. Guess they were damn scared that their handing Hillary the nomination would blow up in their faces. Russia used social media to try and influence the election- the same damn thing we do to our enemies, and even some of our allies.

What, are you saying that obama led from behind again? Because according to obama elections can't be rigged

I'd advise Mr. Trump to stop whining and try to go make his case to get votes," Obama said at a White House news conference alongside Italian Prime Minister Matteo Renzi.
"If whenever things are going badly for you, you start blaming somebody else, then you don't have what it takes to be in this job," Obama continued. "There are a lot of time things don't go our way or my way … that's OK, you fight through it."

The sad part is he "lied" because at the time of his statement he knew that Russians were interfering in our election.

Only if they don't like the result of the election.

If their candidate wins then the Republicans/Conservatives had better STFU and get on board with their president. The media and Democrats will be declaring the election results to be pure and clean. Just like they would have had Hillary won. This whole Russian BS, Carter Page, Steele Dossier, and the rest would have been quickly swept up and disposed of.

Couldn't have it look like they were actively investigating a political opponent for no damn reason.

If we trusted the voters, Trump wouldn't be President. The voters, by a 3 million vote margin, wanted the other candidate. The electoral college and the weighted votes in rural States with few actual voters, bitter at being forgotten, shouldn't be trusted. It's the illogical system that gave us the most corrupt piece of shit President in history with dirty dishonest Donald. Only four times in American history have Presidents won the Presidency without also winning the majority vote. Dishonest Donald does not represent the will of the majority, he does not represent the best of America, he represents the worst and will soon be unceremoniously kicked out of the white house come January 2021 as there is no hope the spineless sycophants in the Senate majority would actually do their jobs and throw him out before then.

She was behind by a good margin before California weighed in. You may want to be governed by the coasts but most Americans do not.

Are Californians not Americans?

"Most Americans"? Once again, we are Americans.

I was born and raised in Ohio. I moved to California in my early 30's. Having lived in both places, California wins hands down.

I am curious as one that neither voted for Clinton or Trump , what was the fatal flaw/s in the Clinton campaign that caused the loss of the EC?

I can think of 2 that I have actually narrowed it down to.

1. An underestimation  of Trump as a viable threat as a candidate , one I watched right up until the day of voting started. He was treated as a joke and thought easily defeated.

2. The second and most damnable flaw, was calling those undecided  a basket of deplorables if they didn't vote for the democrat, which is pretty much what is being implied by Schiff in his statement, in my view.

I didn't neglect it , I rolled that in with underestimating the viable threat as a candidate Trump was.

I also wonder what inroads the party faithful think the current crop of those running for the nomination of the party in those all important EC voting states outside what they consider their "sure things ".

"You know, to just be grossly generalistic, you could put half of Trump's supporters into what I call the basket of deplorables. Right? They're racist, sexist, homophobic, xenophobic – Islamophobic – you name it."

I don't see anything in there about calling them deplorable for not voting Democrat. She defines what she meant. If you identify with being racist, sexist, homophobic, xenophobic or Islamophobic, well that's on you.

you name it.

And correct she didn't say for not voting the D ticket , and the public be they undecided could interpret it , or as she did say, named it , did, that's why I felt after 3 years of thought that was the fatal flaw,  Once the public hears something and decides what it means to them , no amount of backpedaling or explaination or redirection will change what was said or how an individual heard it as it applies to them, and it has been pretty much backed up by the actions of those faithful , that did vote for her, by the way they have treated those they think may have voted against her. You have done it yourself . Just as Schiff and Pelosi both have stated that the voters cannot be trusted , which you just reiterated above .

I file such things under unintended consequenses of not thinking a statement through and how it will be received.

I have no doubt that without the illegal hacking of the DNC and release of embarrassing emails or Comey announcing just days before the election that the FBI was re-opening of the investigation, while never mentioning once that the trump campaign was under investigation, caused the 110,000 votes in 3 swing States to give the electoral college majority to such a worthless embarrassment. Also, the illicit social media campaign where Russian spent $1.25 million a month on targeting the voters they had studied from the 22 State voter databases they hacked didn't help Hillary's chances. I'm sure Putin is laughing his ass off at how monumentally stupid some people are, laughing that so many poorly educated buffoons bought into their lie about some pizza parlor sex ring or the fantasy assassination of Seth Rich.

I've never found Hillary appealing as a political candidate, I didn't think she should have been the Democrat candidate, I did not vote for her in the primary. With that said, she is leaps and bounds more qualified than our current room temp IQ President who thinks he's above the law. She would have done a decent job, and the economy would have been continuing the increases started under Obama, just like Trump has experienced. We've not seen his lies about some 4% average GDP, the massive tax cut for corporations has not supercharged the economy, it was all bullshit fantasy. If you want to buy into his fantasy, that's your choice, I'm not naïve or gullible enough to believe his mountain of lies or his self-aggrandizement claiming only he "can fix" America. He has fixed nothing, he has broken norms at every turn and it will take decades to get back the trust and respect of our friends and allies around the world. Just because some protectionist dumb asses want to hide behind a wall and stuff their heads in a fat orange clowns ass and abandon our leadership around the world, it doesn't mean America is stronger, it means we are now weaker and have a weaker position to negotiate on anything.

“The president’s misconduct cannot be decided at the ballot box, for we cannot be assured that the vote will be fairly won,” Schiff said.

I see that comment being turned into a political hand grenade, not that it already isn't, much like the comment on basket of deplorables.

And if I were a betting person , if he doesn't already regret it , he may soon.

There is 2 things I would warn the political parties , much like the romans warned their senators to beware the Ides of march,

when in politics , beware murphys law as well as the law of unintended consequenses.

Final thoughts:

Mercifully the House prosecution opening statements have come to an end. We can put the Rum & Coke away. Put the aspirin back in the medicine cabinet and enjoy the quiet. Tomorrow the President's lawyers will begin their opening statements. They are not expected to use every bit of their 24 hours as the democrats did. By the later part of next week the US Senate could be voting to dismiss this ridiculous case.
