Trump touts surprise job gains, calls on states to end coronavirus lockdowns
"We'll go back to having the greatest economy anywhere in the world, nothing close. And I think we're going to have a very good upcoming few months. I think you're going to have a very good August, very good July, but a spectacular, maybe spectacular September ... and next year's going to be one of the best years we've ever had economically," Trump said, touting a "job surge." This was totally unexpected.  A very pleasant surprise.  A positive 10 million jobs gain over expectations.  It was good thing we restarted as much of the economy as soon as we did.  Another great day for America equals bad day for democrats kind of news.  Democrats were left to complaining that the recovery they didn’t see coming isn’t fast enough while hoping t won’t hold up.

President Trump declared Friday that jobs are coming back on the heels of a surprise labor report that may indicate the start of an economic recovery amid historic job losses , as he also upped his demands on states to lift lingering coronavirus -related lockdowns.

"We're bringing our jobs back," Trump said during upbeat remarks to members of the media in the Rose Garden. "We're gonna be back there. I think we're actually going to be back there higher next year than ever before."

OVER 1.87M AMERICANS FILED FOR UNEMPLOYMENT LAST WEEK AS STATES EASE CORONAVIRUS RESTRICTIONS

He added, in reference to predictions that the economy could eventually bounce back to where it was before the pandemic: "We've been talking about a 'V.' This is far better than a 'V.' This is a rocketship."

Trump also signed a bill giving small businesses more flexibility with Paycheck Protection Program (PPP) loans. He said the legislation would "especially help restaurants, hotels and other businesses." The president also thanked Democrats for cooperating on getting the PPP bill through the House of Representatives.

Numbers released by the Labor Department indicated that the economy added 2.5 million jobs in May and the U.S. unemployment rate dropped to 13.3 percent from 14.7 percent a month earlier. This was a stark reversal from expectations that the unemployment rate could reach nearly 20 percent in May, and Trump took the opportunity to crow over the positive economic news.

"We'll go back to having the greatest economy anywhere in the world, nothing close. And I think we're going to have a very good upcoming few months. I think you're going to have a very good August, very good July, but a spectacular, maybe spectacular September ... and next year's going to be one of the best years we've ever had economically," Trump said, touting a "job surge."

He compared the U.S. economy to a surgery patient who was strong before an operation and had a better chance of coming out of the procedure healthy.

"The reason it's been and is so good, is because the body was strong," he said. "Our body was so powerful that we could actually close our country."

UNEMPLOYMENT RATE DROPS TO 13.3 PERCENT IN MAY, SIGNALING RETURN OF US JOBS

Trump further said that significant progress was being made on the development of coronavirus vaccines and therapeutics. Yet he also questioned why some states still have significant coronavirus lockdown measures in place, as he credited states lifting lockdowns like Florida and Georgia for the economic progress so far.

"This is what these numbers are all about ... It's extremely important to remember that many of our states are closed or almost closed. Some of the big ones, New York, New Jersey, they'll start, they're starting now to get open. I hope," Trump said.

Trump also said that liberal economic policies like the "Green New Deal" are the biggest threat to the United States' economic recovery.

The comments came after a flurry Friday morning tweets from the president, seizing on the unexpectedly good economic news.

"Really Big Jobs Report. Great going President Trump (kidding but true)!" Trump said in one tweet.

"THESE JOBS NUMBERS ARE INCREDIBLE!" he said in another.

TRUMP PREDICTS 2021 WILL BE 'BEST YEAR' FOR US ECONOMY AFTER MAY JOBS REBOUND

"Oh no, the Dems are worried again. The only one that can kill this comeback is Sleepy Joe Biden!" Trump added, continuing the triumphant tweetstorm . "It's a stunner by any stretch of the imagination."

Last week 1.87 million Americans filed for unemployment benefits, which represented the ninth straight weekly decline in such claims. Still, the total number of Americans filing for claims is staggering, with more than 40 million doing so since the crisis began.

Democrats suggested that Trump's victory lap is premature.

"Thirteen percent unemployment number is not ‘joyous’ or ‘stupendous’ as President Trump has wrongly stated," Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer said in a statement.

"We are in the largest unemployment crisis since the Great Depression. 21 million Americans are unemployed, and one-fifth of the American workforce has lost work or given up on trying to find a job. And Trump says he is joyous? Families are struggling, hospitals are overwhelmed, businesses have shut down for good, and Americans are dying every day—all of this was preventable," Democratic National Committee Chairman Tom Perez said in a statement.

U.S. employment numbers had tanked to some of the worst in history due to economic shutdowns imposed by states aimed at slowing the spread of the coronavirus. States have begun lifting those restrictions in recent weeks, but the reversal in job trends still surprised most observers.

The numbers are still about triple what the unemployment numbers were just months ago, but represent significant progress in the economic recovery from the coronavirus pandemic.

Trumps been telling the States they needed to start opening things up, weeks ago. The "Left" said Trump was Nutz for saying that.

I guess.....the States are nutz too !

The stock market has been going up and up since the beginning of May, over what Trump has said and done.

Speaking from the White House Friday morning, President Trump celebrated the addition of 2.5 million jobs in May and proudly proclaimed the "Transition to Greatness" is underway.

"It's a great day for everybody. It's a great great day," Trump said. "What we're announcing today is a tremendous tribute to equality. We're bringing our jobs back."

"This was an important day because this shows what we've been doing is right. The reason it's been and is so good is because the body was strong. Our body was so powerful that we could actually close our country, save millions of lives, stop people very early on from China from coming in," he continued. "We saved millions of lives and now we're opening with a bang...this is a rocket ship."

He also slammed leftist policies that hold back economic growth.

"The only thing that can stop us is bad policy. Frankly, leftwing bad policy of raising taxes and green new deals and all of things...that will stop it like you wouldn't believe and frankly it's holding it [recovery] back," Trump said.

President Trump also touted the Paycheck Protection Program and the CARES Act for helping the economy get through months of shutdowns.

"One of the reasons we're in this position is because we had such a strong foundation so we were able to close our country, save millions of lives, open and now the trajectory is great," Trump said.

"This was a sharp, tough, heartbreaking pandemic contraction. It was not a typical economic contraction. It was like a bad hurricane or bad snowstorm. There's a lot of heartache in that, there's a lot of hardship in that, absolutely," Senior White House Economic Advisor Larry Kudlow added. "But they're sharp and fast and they recover fast and we are starting to see this rapid recovery that I believe will extend into the third quarter and the fourth quarter. We're still looking for some 20 percent economic growth in q's three and four and a big number in 2021 as we move forward with presidential policies of lower taxes and regulations and every and fair and reciprocal trade deals that created a phenomenal economy before the pandemic and can recreate and rebuild that phenomenal economy afterward."

That's what the states are supposed to do.  It's a big reason why we have states.

I sense disappointment that a rebound is starting from the bottom rather than from the top.  This is what the Obama recovery should have looked like but didn't.

The latest U.S. job numbers, revealed Friday, are a "boon" for President Trumpand represent "vindication" for those who opposed coronavirus lockdowns, Martha MacCallum said.

The host of Fox News' "The Story" shared her views while co-hosting "The Five."

"I think it's an interesting assessment on the lockdown rebellion. A lot of people fought back. They wanted to get back to work. They wanted things to reopen," MacCallum said. "We've seen in cases all across the country that where that happened and those governors were vilified for the most part.

"The cases seem to be under control in those areas," she continued, "Even the Ozarks, where the you know, all those kids were partying and everybody was obviously concerned about the proximity that they were in, at least at this point, does not appear to have registered an increase in cases in that area.

CONGRESS HAS FUNNELED TRILLIONS TO CORONAVIRUS RELIEF. WHERE IS THAT MONEY GOING?

"It is, I think, of vindication of that movement, loosely held movement, across the country," MacCallum said. "And I do think that it's obviously a boon for President Trump, who seems to be in a much better mood than he was earlier this week, which was a very tough week for him on a number of fronts." https://www.foxnews.com/media/martha-maccallum-jobs-report-is-vindication-for-coronavirus-lockdown-rebellion

WEEKS AGO WAS TOO SOON.

And this is going on in phases, please pay attention and comprehend.

The states will do what they need to do without any help from this 'president' like they have been doing all along.

They will use common sense and still use face masks and social distancing.

Unlike this 'president' and his supporters.

We saw all the social distancing in those states the last 12 days or so.  No excuses now not to restart the economy.  If people can be in all these stores to loot them they an be open for real as well.

My work opens June 10.  Over 300 of us just participated in a webex meeting.

My work is being very cautious and following CDC and NYS guidelines unless there is an absolute necessity for anyone to go into the office, we are being told to keep working remotely from home.

I will listen to my employer and their planning over the shit stain in the whitehouse.

I work for a University Hospital.  My fourth year students come back on July 6th, they need to graduate, but there are oodles of infection prevention courses they have to take and fit testing for masks, same for the 3rd years when they come back.

My 3rd year students are coming back on August 31st.

the President had a 15 and then added a 30 days to bend the curve.  Virtually no state jumped that.  Some rushed his three stage plan after that but those were guidelines not mandatory because Trump is a federalist President , not a dictatorship like certain blue city mayors and blue state governors tried to be. Now we know who the authoritarian god complex control freaks are in our country and none of them will ever be our President in the future

It was totally predictable that unemployment would go down when businesses opened back up. Why people are all excited at something that was completely predictable is beyond me.

In other news, I heard Trump, carried away with the economic news said something to the effect of "today is a great day for George Floyd".

The predictable numbers were the expectations.  The job recovery we saw today came a month and 10 million lost jobs avoided.  This mess the Wuhan virus hole we have to dig our way out of is not going to be as deep as we feared.

If that’s the case how do you explain all these news stories today claiming the economists blew it?

  • The Bureau of Labor Statistics on Friday said US employers added 2.5 million payrolls in May, a shocking figure that defied economists' expectations of 7.5 million jobs lost.

There’s lots more like that one do a search and see for yourself.
