Remembering veterans
National Wreaths Across America Day is on Saturday, December 14, 2019

I know the "Holidays" are still quite a ways off, but if possible take a minute out of your day to help out an organization that is doing everything they can to remember our veterans who gave all and are interred in our National Cemeteries.
I just received the below email and am passing it on to others that might find it possible to help out at this time of year.

I am writing to personally thank you for the 20 wreaths you sponsored in 2018. Each veteran's wreath was placed on a headstone at one of our 1,640 participating locations by a volunteer who personally honored and remembered the veteran laid to rest there and said their name out loud. Here is our re-cap video that helps show the importance of your gift:

This year, National Wreaths Across America Day is on Saturday, December 14, 2019 and we would be honored if you and your loved ones are able to participate. Many Americans find it to be one of the most meaningful and moving experiences of their life. Please click   Search Locations   to find a participating location convenient for you.

Even if you are unable to attend, every veteran wreath sponsored is deeply meaningful, especially to our volunteers and the family members of the veteran that you are honoring and remembering. Please consider one of the options below to easily sponsor a veterans' wreath for an American hero:

Thank you for playing a part in our mission to Remember - Honor - Teach. We hope you can join us on Saturday, December 14, 2019.

With gratitude,

Karen Worcester
Executive Director

I'm hoping that at least some, if not all NT participants can help out these folks.

The wreaths for the graves of our fallen are paid for entirely by donations.   There are several trucking companies that volunteer their drivers and equipment to transport the wreaths to the National Cemeteries around the country and there are of course thousands of individuals and groups, including Boy and Girl Scouts, VFW lodges etc., that place the wreaths on the graves.

Help out if you can in any way possible.

THANKS!!

And excellent and worthy cause. Thanks for this. And as always, thank you to all of my fellow vets for your service.

They are not listed on Charity Navigator because they receive over 60% of their support from government programs. This does not mean that they are not legit it's because for Charity Navigator to list them they have to receive over 40% of their donations from private sources.

IMO, it's a real deal.

As a side note AIM (American Indian Movement) will be sponsoring a Thanksgiving Day dinner for vets. Our 4th year of doing this in my area.

Is there a web site to contribute?  There's always a cost for something, even the good.

Thank you for the offer, but we have it covered.

There is another charity that I'm involved in for vets and it's American Humane Paws for Vets. American Humane finds shelter dogs and trains them to be service dogs for vets. The entire cost is covered by American Humane, which is substantial.

Two lives are being saved the vets and the shelter dog.

Here is a link with more information about the program.

I'm sure that any donation would be greatly appreciated by them.

I'm close to one vet that is waiting for his ''shelter dog''....

Great info.  Thanks.

The wife and I are considering another rescue dog, but we're not sure how our pampered prima-donna would take to another mutt getting spoiled!!

Yes, we should all do as we are able to support our Vets.

Looks like you found a good path.

Wounded Warrior got some really bad press a few years ago, as I recall. Their ratio of spending donations on the veterans was not good compared to other charities that help veterans. Have they fixed that?

Yes they have.   I understand the entire 'senior' cadre have been replaced and they're back in the good graces of the "rating" agencies.

The best way to honor veterans is to dramatically chang our foreign policy of forever war and deployment.

We must promise them we will only call on them to put their valuable lives on the line when our country is under attack.

I sponsored a wreath.  Chicago is the nearest city for placing wreaths so that is too far for me.

It is touching that they say the hero's name when placing the wreath.  I never knew that.

I lost my uncle a few weeks ago.  He was a Vietnam Vet (Marine).  He suffered life long injuries from battle.  He was a good man.  A good soldier for our country as many others are.

My father was a USMC DI.  He passed many years ago.  We are lucky that we both had these wonderful men in our lives.

Parris Island.  There was a movie staring Jack Web where he played a DI there.  My father would watch it and comment on it to the point that he drove me crazy lol.  For him it was like going back in time to a place he loved being at.

Luv'd that movie.  Sometimes wished we had lived on the Eastern side of the 'sippi so I could have gone there.  When stationed at Beaufort, went to visit the Island - man-o-man - glad I didn't go :-)
