Death Valley, my favorite place on Earth
A couple of years ago, my life as I knew it ended. I was suddenly thrust into a foggy existence and I needed time to find out what I was going to do, where I was going to go, where I going to start to build an entirely new life after the age of 50.
So, I took some money (not the smartest financial decision, but worth it anyway), put my belongings in storage, packed up my car and my dog and hit the road for six months. We hit 26 States 15 National Parks. We looked out over both the Atlantic and Pacific Oceans and traveled on the scenic by-ways, where possible.
Of all the things I saw, all the places I visited, Death Valley was hands down my favorite. The diversity of the landscape is just unimaginable, but instead of rambling about it, I'll share some pictures. I have a lot, so sit back and grab a drink...
Looks unexciting from here, just desert and a few mountains.
I love to see passion in life and I think cacti are passionate about life itself.
This reminded me of the slag dumps around the mills in Pittsburgh, LOL.
But check out the white, vertical viens
I stopped along here to gather a few rocks for my granddaughter. She likes rocks and it's something we used to do together. It was a way of giving her a piece of this wonder.
This is a tapestry of the past, woven beautifully. It begs to explore...
No matter which way you turn, the landscape changes.
Not a weed, not a blade of grass.
The 20-mule team road, where they mined borax.
Rhyolite Ghost Town, NV, just outside of Death Valley.
Hey, get off the furniture!
Right above the bubble is a tiny fish called the Death Valley Pupfish. It exists nowhere else on Earth. This is a salt stream.
Sorry for so many, I just can't help myself when it comes to Death Valley. Thanks for taking the time to look
