Deforestation Tracked Through Real-Time Satellite
" The technology will be called Global Forest Watch and is a collaboration between Google, World Resource Institute and 40 other organizations. The map would be a tool which individuals, local governments and even entire communities can use to keep themselves updated regarding the current conditions of forests throughout the world. The user interface would be quite simple making it easier to observe the data. The maps are specially designed to give added detail and even display how the forests have changed over the years for a particular area.
The technology will rely on Googles mapping resources and feeds from various other scientific sources. Being connected to other sources would help the system automatically update itself if any changes occur. For example connecting to NASAs forest fire alert would notify the system in case a fire occurs which would then automatically be updated on the screen for the users to see. "

I thought most replanted, but maybe not?
No everyone is in the business of making money, which in itself isn't a bad thing, but replacing forest with new seedlings is a good thing and not PINE Trees. I hate pine trees. NC will cut the hardwood trees down and replant Pine trees. Pine trees grow much faster, but don't accomplish the same thing as hardwoods. I'm not a tree fanatic but I hate to see a forest cut down. Looks like they could just take part of it but they don't. They devastate the whole thing.
It would be sad to have all of them cut down. Trees are very beneficial.
Hi Six, Here in Wa. St. they do replant the same tree - Firs. Fir, Hemlock, Spruce and Pine are considered soft woods here, and we have a lot of Cedar which are also soft. There are a few Oaks and Alders in specific areas, but the mountainsides, where they do the majority of the logging, are a Fir variety. I agree that it would be better if they didn't take it all; the run-off and erosion isn't a good thing, tho in some areas where there are roads below, they use netting to hold the soil. I hate the slash burns. This satellite system would be good in catching fires early.
tzia, true. It changes the eco-system, too. I've seen that happen on my own property. The bug populations don't come back (thinking of the soil creatures). Maybe the beneficial bacteria are wiped out, too?!!
The graphic is not displaying for me .
Petey, I wonder what's going on - I keep losing the graphic! Trying again:
Nope , still nothing .
Did you save the image to your computer before you posted it ? That usually works .
Petey, I have the graphics now and did when I posted the article, but now other things are going on... html display is gone for the moment, but now the program won't let me use the reply button.
Either it's the program is goofy right now - or someone is messing with it, I would guess. Another thing, I'm rarely able to link articles in a discussion section here (my graphics always show up in my own articles, tho, when I post an article). I've read a couple others say the same thing.
I guess its time to get the boss lady involved !
Right now, everything on my article is working normal for me, no problems - I was even able to use the reply feature.
(the lack of being able to use the reply feature and not having any tools in the comment box, is what used to happen when about four of us claimed to be having this problem long ago; at that time, Perrie said it was just the few of us that had it happening, but no one else...hmmm.)
However, it just took me about five minutes to make a reply in 'Cats.' The reply feature wouldn't work...and several attempts, it finally worked.
Try breathingwithout the oxygen thrown off by trees and plants, and the CO2 absorbed by them.
To everything there is a place, and a purpose under Heaven.
Good article.
Good idea.
Good use of technology.
Wait till these types of carving start popping up in the google forests.
Yes, how true. I haven't kept up with those reports on how much oxygen is in the air compared to the past since the Climate debates were abundant.
I agree, take away our resources, and we're just left with the 'bad stuff.'
That will be interesting!
