NFL considers kicking point-after try to the curb
NFL commissioner said Monday in an interview on NFL Network that the leagues competition committee is looking into a proposal that would abolish the extra-point attempt and award seven points for every touchdown.
If teams wanted to try for an eighth point after a touchdown currently a two-point conversion they could attempt a run or pass from the 2-yard line. But there would be a risk: If a team failed in its extra-point play, that team would get only six points for the touchdown, losing one point.
If Roger Goodell wants more excitement, make teams work for every point. How can you add a point by subtraction?
So what are your thoughts on this proposal?
That's kind of where I'm at JFT drop the 2 point conversion and just go with the extra point. Maybe if any thing move the point after out to the 20 yard line as suggested, that should give blockers an equal chance.
Those are some good ideas John. I'm sure that something is in the offing just not sure if Goodell is going to ask for public input or if we will one morning find new rules to put up with.
True enough JFT, but I think the NFL is looking towards the game being won during regular playing time if at all possible. JMHO
They may at least ask for suggestions but in the long run I think we'll end up with what ever the owners think will draw the "biggest buck" for their pocket. Much like what happened in the NHL with the goalie restrictions.
So true - a six hour football game is hard to watch.
I like the idea. IMO, there needs to be some change in the extra point. It's just to automatic.
