Beautiful. TheBald Eagle in Missouri has made quite the comeback, due to the work done by the state.
We have a nesting pair on the front of our property. In the winter time, we can watch them from our windows out over the lake, fishing.
Only if you want to spend some time in jail and pay a $10,000 fine BF.
It's really great to watch the Bald Eagle. We get to see them on a regular basis. The Golden Eagle is a rare sight here, BF.
We have blackturkey vultures all over the place here, about that size. As corporations become more and more influential, I figure we can just make thatour national bird.
I guess that I'm missing your point Hal. We have turkey vultures as well. None are political from what they have told me.
We have an abundance of ''turkeys'' in political office, from both sides.
They really are 2blue. We get to see them on a regular basis here.
Being that close to them, gives you a real perspective on how large these birds are.
I was going for the whole "vulture" angle. They are just as happy as corporations to pick our carcasses clean.
I would be happy if they picked thepoliticians carcasses clean. Oh wait, they would poison themselves doing that.
2blue, we have a nesting pair on the front of our property, just back from the lakeshore. It's fantastic to watch them ''fish''.
Tough room.
No mercy Hal.
Golden Eagle attacking a photographer.
The Raptor Resource Project has a nest cam, that they 'live stream' from Decorah, Iowa. I was able to watch Eagles develop from egg to young adult birds. Watching the parents protect and nurture the little ones was truly fascinating. There are also links to other raptor projects too. I think we can start watch this reality show around March/April as the eggs are hatched.
I heard of the Raptor Resource Project, thanks for the link One M.
One of the eagles is nesting right now. You're welcome Kavika.
Magnificent !! Thanks for sharing Kav / Prrez.
Your welcome tzia. They are really majestic when your only 10 feet from them.
With a big telephoto lens and a tripod, you might be able to get some good shots.
We get a good view of them, when they leave the nest and head out over the lake, ''fishing'' TTGA.
I'm not all that good with a camera. I checked into them and they were expensive.
Last Summer I saw a pair at a Renaissance Faire in Michigan and the trainer had those Eagles eating from his hand, (of course he wore gloves) he would let them loose and they would l return and many other things. It was AMAZING!! Something I will never forget. What a thrill !!
Tzia,
Renaissance Fair probably means Grand Rapids. You were only thirty miles away and I didn't even know it???? I've got to get out more.
They love ''lady fingers'' tzia.
Yes TGA, I think it's something they have every year. The entire grounds have all different kinds of booths and of course food. You should try to get there ,lot's to do and lots to see. The place is huge! You and family would have a real fun day!!
Kav/Prez, i'll watch and enjoy but not participate, I'm too chicken ! It's amazing how well they were trained. Captivating!!
Two years ago, a pair of Bald Eagles began nesting by the lake I fish in the Pocono Mountains. That same year, a number of large Palomino Trout were tagged and placed in the lake with residents around the lake notified that if they turned in one of the tags, they'd receive a pair of dinners at a local restaurant.
Palomino trout are actually Rainbow Trout displaying bright orange-white rather than the usual colors -- poor camouflage particularly in a clear lake. None of the tags have ever been recovered. My guess is that if someone can find any Eagle droppings around the lake, they'll discover that the Eagles got the dinners --
Fresh caught Palomino Trout being the main course!
The Eagle was photographed at Conowingo Dam in Maryland, the sky in Pennsylvania. I put the two together in Photoshop.
Beautiful photo Mac.
I was talking to one of the experts on eagles, and was told that only one out of eighteen dive's for fish results in a catch for the eagle.
It's really great that this photo op let people get up and close to these majestic birds. I had worked with them at the Theodore Roosevelt Conservatory and they are amazing birds. Thanks for sharing this with us.
I'd guess, if all fish were Palomino Trout, the odds would increase significantly.
It really is an experience to be close to then. The Golden Eagle would get a bit aggressive. He was recused after being caught in a barbwire fence. He cannot be returned to the wild, since a wing was badly injured.
Thanks for stopping by Perrie.
Beautiful birds and nice photo work Kavika!
Thanks Larry, they are simply magnificent.
Glad you enjoyed the photos E....
We have a lot of Bald Eagles around here. I have a nesting pair on the front of our property, very close to the lake. It's great to watch them go ''fishing''...
Those are beautiful, majestic birds. I love to see them flying, along with the hawks.
When I lived in Summitville, NY, I walked Phugs one day, and went around to the back of the house. There on a tree branch was a breath taking beautiful white owl. I stopped in my tracks, just staring at the bird, he was staring back at me. I was going to go back in the house and get my camera to take a picture of it, but it flew away when I turned my back. That was a beauty, and I feel so lucky to have seen that.
Sounds like the ''Great Snowy Owl'' Leotie. One of the largest of the owl family.
It is easy to see why these birds were chosen to represent the United States.
Thanks, Kavika, for the great post.
They are magnificent Al. To be with 5 feet of one, is truly an experience.
I agree. They are truly stunning birds. There are a couple on exhibit at the National Zoo in D.C..
