Islamist western rock music
Islamist western rock music
This might just be the oddest musical challenge I have ever proposed . Does the topic sound impossible ?
If you just give it a chance you may start to see it is not so unlikely . Your challenge is to find western rock music which expresses a view which supports the ideals of Islamists . And yes , I will go first . Here is Blondie's old hit from the last millenium :
Looks like the embed didn't work but you can use the hyperlink above ...
I never was able to make out the lyrics of that old Hendrix number . Thanks for the lyric version . I think you've captured the spirit of this challenge . Hendrix seemed to express that life & death were part of the same continuum ...
Soooo baaaad ! Thanks much .
Thanks for trying . Just in case you didn't notice I did not say Islamic . I said Islamist ... you know ... the ones who want to kill for Allah ? Think "bad-ass" . Got it ?
How about Katy Perry .... Baby you're a firework
Great choice ! That gives an entirely new perspective to her "body" of work ...
And it speaks in general to the several female artists who sang as if they were singing their last song . That might include Janis Joplin or even Karen Carpenter ...
This number seems to be , not a celebration of destruction but a protest against "killing in the name" . That is the antithesis of my theme . But it is baaaad ... Thanks for trying .
I don't access to YouTube where I'm at, but there's always The Gap Band - You Dropped A Bomb On Me
.... wait .... maybe that one's more relevant to the US response to terrorists.
Ok this one misses the mark. Relevant but not quite what you were asking for imho...
Well ... it is decidedly racist . However , I think that makes it more of a "revolutionary" statement than a celebration of destruction for its own sake ... a stupid revolution at that .Here is more of the type of celebratory destruction I am looking for :
I think you got it this time . I wonder if they have any other themes to their music ?
Yes , that is a protest against these actions , not a celebration of them . But thanks for the perspective .
Please include a link if you want a response .
I see 3 links ...
Sorry, I'm terrible at following directions.
This has been a tricky theme . Maybe this old number ...
Jihad Bells. Not rock, but a Christmas song. It's lovely.
You obviously are unfamiliar with the songs. Islamist don't like western ideas, right? So from Rockin the Casbah:
Sharia don't like it
Rockin' the Casbah
Rock the Casbah
Sharia don't like it
Rockin' the Casbah
Rock the Casbah
By order of the prophet
We ban that boogie sound
Degenerate the faithful
With that crazy Casbah sound
But the Bedouin they brought out
The electric kettel drum
The local guitar picker
Got his guitar picking thumb
As soon as the Sharia
Had cleared the square
They began to wail
As for Kashmir. Think 9/11 Islamist on LSD...
I've been flying, ain't no denyin', no denyin'
All I see turns to brown, as the sun burns the ground
And my eyes fill with sand, as I scan this wasted land
Trying to find, trying to find where I've been.
Oh, pilot of the storm who leaves no trace, like thoughts inside a dream
Heed the path that led me to that place, yellow desert stream
My Shangri-La beneath the summer moon, I will return again
Sure as the dust that floats high in June, when movin' through Kashmir.
Oh, father of the four winds, fill my sails, across the sea of years
With no provision but an open face, along the straits of fear
Ohh.
When I'm on, when I'm on my way, yeah
When I see, when I see the way, you stay-yeah
Ooh, yeah-yeah, ooh, yeah-yeah, when I'm down...
Ooh, yeah-yeah, ooh, yeah-yeah, well I'm down, so down
Ooh, my baby, oooh, my baby, let me take you there
Let me take you there. Let me take you there
OK , thanks for supplying the lyrics . It appears that the 1st one is a conflict between the sharia group & the Bedouin group . I'm going for a celebration not of those who were "Rockin the Casbah" but of those who opposed them , the sharia group . Still this was an interesting effort .
As for the 2nd one ... it is as you said , not obvious .
Indeed.
perhaps there is too wide a variance of cultures, to find many common themes celebrated in popular culture.
My ultimate goal is to post a challenge & give the lone example that fits . In that respect this theme has been a failure since there were some good responses ...
