The Mercedes of the future

I came across this article, and I was so shocked that it is a being presented as a serious endeavor, that I had to seed it. This was actually part of a larger article showcasing alist ofother inventions that were far more realistic - otherwise I would have considered it a satirical piece.

Mercedes-Benz is taking "green" technology to a whole new level. No, were not talking about hybrids or low fuel emission models, were talking about a brand new concept in automotive design.

Unveiled at the Los Angeles Design Challenge, the Mercedes BIOME is the first concept car to move away from the heavy metal production line and move into the lab.

Thats right. This car is grown in a laboratory.

Mass transit for the win!

Never too early to start weening the masses away from multiple automobile ownership which is unsustainable.

If the rest of the world population were to reach a standard of living comparable to the US and Western Europe it would take 1.5 times the resources the Earth currently contains.

I can't seem to find the article that lead me to this one. Seeing this one in the context of nine other invention endeavors that were entirely possible is what made this piece so surprising. I mean come on - growing a car froma seed? This was includedin a list of items that includedan advanced military helmet, a printer that uses specialreusable paper, and a machine that makes pencils out of scrap paper. If I can find it I will add the original top ten article.

Lol, BF, Volkswagen was there before Mercedes, so that might explain it, perhaps?
