Moving Away Songs
I know there is a music group, of which I am a member, but I wanted to give everyone an opportunity to hear this song, and share their own songs that fit the category of "Moving Away Songs".
As I approach the end of my 3rd year of medical school, one of my friends, who is graduating this year (she's a 4th year). This woman quickly became one of my dearest friends ever - without her, I would not have made it through medical school. My parents live 15 hours away; her's live 8 hours a way - neither of us have any family where we attend school. Both of us are single parents. So we've done a lot to support each other as friends, as medical students, as single parents.
I am very happy for her that she is moving on to residency and this is not the end of a friendship - rather, it's just a change in the friendship. Especially since she will be moving 5 hours away for her residency.
Obviously we are planning a huge going away party for her with our friends. One of the things I will be doing is performing one of our mutually favorite songs with a long band (who will be performing at the going away party). Here's the song I will be singing as part of this.
Great song and I bet it'll be perfect!
Saying "goodbye" doesn't work for me,,,see ya later is better.
Thanks, the song is perfect in so many ways.
I agree - "see ya later" is MUCH better.
Dang Summer, I can only think of songs that say goodbye and usually to a guy. But here is a songs about friendship that I love.
Perrie, Sometimes saying goodbye is a good thing, lol. When it comes to great friends, the see you later is much better.
I love both of those songs. I never knew who sang Thank You For Being a Friend.
There are so many songs about all the sad, bad things and about sex - but, it doesn't seem that there are many that are simply about being great friends.
Another song I like about friendship, but not a see ya later or goodbye song:
Not sure this is a moving away song, but this is the best song I know of true friendship.
Another great song, thanks for sharing.
Summer, your song was wonderful!
Well, I've thought and thought... Here's one I really like, (Loooooong before your time) Friends, by Elton John:
And this one is a good one, too! Cheerful! Hello, Goodbye, The Beatles:
Well, I did the best I could!
(((((((((((((((Summer))))))))))))))))))
Other than the above, this was the only thing I could think of...
We have no words for good bye in my native language which is Ojibwe.
We just say, ''Baamaapii niijii'' (until later my friend).
Those are great songs, Dowser. Thank you for sharing them.
That is so cool Kavika. I really like that.
Thank you Mike, It is a sad thing that she is moving. But, it is necessary for her, and in a year it will be my turn to move on. We have a core group of friends - there are 4 of us. She is moving this year, myself and another will be moving on next year, then the last the year after that. We will all be moving onto our residencies and starting the next chapter in our lives - but, we will forever be connected and best friends, regardless of where we are. It's just hard when the people you have grown to love so much have to move to the next phase of their lives.
I love those songs, also - beautiful
Happy that you like it Summer. It's means that you will always see them again.
Very true - and good friends are there, even if across a long distance. That's another good song, also.
I don't know why moving makes me think of these two songs,...
and
In case people think I missed the point of the article,..my song selection is about moving from point A to point B. for what ever reason, going to see a dear friend, moving away from a friend, or just exploring the world,....never let anything stand in your way of getting to where you are going...
No, I don't think you missed the point of the article at all. Just as I'm going to miss my friend terribly - she MUST move on, she has to do this for her life and to continue her journey. I am happy for her. Those songs are excellent!!
Yes, never let anything stand in the way of where you are going.
I like that song also. Very fitting
