Billy Joel Performs with Michael Pollack, Roslyn's Home Town Pride
There is a buzz in my town of Roslyn that took me by surprise. One of my daughters' schoolmates and friend, Michael Pollack, who is now an undergraduate Vanderbilt University, in Nashville Tennessee, went to see Billy Joel perform at the school. When it came time for Billy's Q&A time, Michael got a chance to ask Billy a question. He told Billy that he had played with Richie Cannata, several times before, and asked Billy if he could come up and play with him... watch the video for the rest.
It should be noted that the Pollack family must have good genes. His cousin and close friend of my daughters, Danny Pollack, is attending Yale studying Applied Math. It's hard to believe that I had these kids in my home. Bravo to Michael and Danny.
I knew that this kid had the "chops" to play with Billy. He had been doing his own Billy Joel show in local clubs since he was 14!
Way cool Perrie!! The kid is good! Got a chuckle out of Billy checking his watch at the end! Thanks for putting this up...it was fun to watch! And any time I get to listen to Billy is a good time!
Actually, Catherine dated Michael's cousin Danny when they were in middle school. He's a great kid. Michael is a sweetie, too. Only kid I ever knew who called me Mrs. Halpern.
I figured if anyone would get a bang out of this, it would be my Uptown Girl! I loved it when he told Michael that he had "chops". That was some compliment! And yeah, it was funny when Michael got carried away and Billy said that. You got to love the man. He is so down to earth and has done so many wonderful things for Long Island. Just a great guy!
BTW he does those concerts all year long at different universities. It only costs about $10 to get in. How about that for a good guy!
way too coool.....
Well I will just have to plan my trip to NYC so you can take me (or I'll take you...either way works!) to one of his shows! Now how would that be?!?!
Too cool!
Thanks LR! He is an amazing kid and Billy isn't half bad either!
How fun and what a great opportunity! Personally, I woulda fell over just being on stage with Billy Joel.
Have seem Billy in concert several times. Was saddened when he stopped his R&R for classic and he hasn't been local in years and certainly not at a price I'm willing to pay anymore!
Wow Perrie that's great. I know what you mean about having them as kids in your home and then they go on to do awesome things. This sounds stupid probably but when my son was about thirteen there was a kid he played with (hung around with I guess at that age). Anyway the kid grows up to be 7 feet tall and joins the WWF as one of the main wrestlers. To see him on TV and to think of him as a little kid in my house is weird and cool.
If you have a university near you, he does shows like these throughout America and the concert is very cheap and he interacts with the audience. I went to see him do this at my old school, Queens College, and for $10 it was a great night!
There is another video of Michael talking about this. I have attended one of these kinds of concerts at the universities, at he always has a Q&A time. Michael was hoping to get picked and he did. I have seen girls ask for kisses, and he does that, too. He's a very down to earth guy.
As for Michael, he said it was a moment he has tried to burn into his head.
Wow that is cool too, Sooves! It's always the one's you'd never expect.
Matt's classmate was Scott Rudin, one of Hollywood's biggest producers. Matt said he was very picked on in high school, now look who's laughing.
And my very close friend (and godfather to my daughters) is "Stylist to the stars" Phillip Bloch. He was also picked on for being "different" (back in the day, no one knew who was gay... they just stood out to their classmates as easy pickings)
So here is my friend Phil, approprately interviewing Billy's ex- Uptown Girl, Christie Brinkley.
That is so wayyy cool!
Wonderful!! Billy has always been one of my favorites, and my first concert going experience without parental escort (in 1987). Today I found out that an old friend will be opening for Bill Kreutzman (Grateful Dead) on an upcoming concert. I am as thrilled for him as you must be for Michael. And yes, the watch checking thing was funny!
