POST SURGERY - AM I CUTE, OR WHAT?

I DIDN'T KILL IT.....IT'S A TOY......BUT I DON'T KNOW THAT......OTHERWISE I WOULDN'T HAVE BOTHERED

I rescued a cat who I named Tattoo, because he had 4 little black dots on one side of his nose. It would later turn into a spot, but who knew.

I did this because I was at Petsmart to pick up some bird seed, as I feed the doves in my yard. I met a woman who was wanting to find a home for a 6 month old kitten.

One dark and rainy night she stumbled over a cardboard box, outside a 7/11. It was emanating a foul odor, something was inside, (sounds like the beginning of a mystery, doesnt it?)

Inside there was a litter of kittens, all sick and stunk to high heavens. Whoever dropped them off thought it would be a good idea to leave them some food, so they put an open can of tuna in oil in the box with the 3 week old kittens. It had to have been a man!
The kittens, still with their eyes closed, had crawled around in the tuna and oil,...and potty.... so when she tried to take the box into the 7/11 to get them out of the rain, the owner refused her entrance.

Because she and her husband both worked, her mom moved in with them temporarily and she, her mom, and her husband took turns feed the kittens every 3 hours around the clock for weeks until they could be weaned. She then spent a fortune taking care of their medical problems and getting shots and neutering. Tattoo needed eye surgery, and man oh man was I glad she had already paid to have that done.

As she already had 2 cats with medical problems, and the new ones, she was wanting to adopt out the healthiest one, but she was very particular about who would be the new mom.

Now wasnt looking for a cat. You notice my screen name is Rescue Dogs, not Rescue Cats. Thats was selected for a reason. I wasnt interest in getting a cat; I feed wild birds, and I wanted a dog.Ive always had dogs, and only one wasnt a rescue....a cat would get to my doves; if I had a cat I couldnt get a dog, so there, it was a non-issue....not even up for discussion.

My last rescued golden had to be put to sleep, and I was unable to rescue another dog because I was going to need open heart surgery, and I needed to be able to keep up with one....its difficult to walk a dog when both of you are panting.....so I was playing the waiting game. Surgery,.. then the dog.

Well. Back to Petsmart and the bird seed. I was standing in line and this woman asked if I would just hold this 6 month old cat for a minute or two while she got something out of her purse.

.....do you see where this is going?

Soon I was buying bird seed, AND cat food...... a bed, and toys, catnip, a litter box, pooper scooper, litter, flea meds, nail trimmer, brush, a cat dish, something for hair balls (which is basically no more than a laxative, but they dont want to mention that) and shampoo for bathing the cat; which by the way Ive had over a year and he still hasnt been bathed...but I am prepared at a moments notice.

So home I came with Tattoo (oops, AFTER I had a play date at her house to see if the cat liked me)....I mean, she did want to off load the cat, didnt she?

Fortunately I made the grade and home he came....oh yes, did I mention the cat carrier for $49.00, the claw scratcher and the tower, and you dont even want to know how much that cost.

He is a domestic short hair and behaved much like a dog, at least he did.....follows me into the bathroom, loved to play with toilet paper, and has learned to unroll the rolls when hes bored. He also love to watch the toilet flush, and he did make the connection between the handle and the swirling water, but isnt smart enough to push it. Yet!

Loves to walk on my keyboard when he feels as if the computer is getting more attention than he is. And you think the New Vine is difficult to navigate.!

To be continues at a later date....BREAKDOWN

Oh... so nice. You took home the kitty. I know that you are a dog person, but you did a good thing.

My Bude used to play with toilet paper and flush the toilet.. I have never heard of another cat doing that until yours.

He is very handsome, too..

I look forward to your next installment.Grin.gif

What a cute little furball he is! Even with the eye problem, he's still a cutie. He evidently needed you and got through to you.

What a touching story! And blessings on your head for adopting a kitten in need in spite of your love for dogs. And the lady who rescued all of them and paid those vet bills, wow, cool beans indeed. Can't wait for the next installment.

I too am a sucker for kitties in need but they always seem to be older ones. We had one we adopted sight unseen because her story in the newspaper was so compelling. She was 18 years old and deaf as a door post but she sure stole our hearts. Her name was Bella, short for Grizabella from the play Cats. It fit her because she had obviously had a tough go of it. She stayed with us until she was 25 and then made her way to the "heaviside layer"
