Revolution: Survival, No Government, Militias, Mayhem, and Led Zeppelin, Too!

Revolution: Survival, no government, militias, mayhem, and LedZeppelin too! What more could you ask for in a really good Sci-Fi epic? In Monday night's winterfinale, on NBC at 10 pm, entitled "Kashmir", all of this will come together leaving you wanting more

Get an Up-Close Look at the Weaponry of Revolution

But first a little background...

Sometime in the near future, someone has found the way to turn off the world's power. All of it. Suddenly, the country is thrown back into the 1700's. With no communication the governments around the world collapseandmayhemfirst takes over the land by looters andthieves. Ex-militarysee an opening for taking over, and do. These newly formed militias, carve up what was once the USA and enforce a no firearm rule on all the people under their rule. Everyone must turn over any guns and other incendiarydevicesor face death, The only weapons allowed are knives, bows and arrows. But the leader of one of these militias, "The Monroe Republic", named after said leader, knows something that all the other ones don't. There is a way to turn on the power, and if he could get this for his own, it would make him the most powerful man in the world. But there is a bigger question...

Who turned off the power and why? We have learned it was part of a project, but who's? We also know that there is a way to turn on the power has to do with what appears to be 12 pendents... which are still being tracked by the developers.

But "Revolution" is more than the manymetaphorsthat make obvious. It's ones that are not so obvious, that make the show so much more. The family we have and the family we choose. Where ourloyaltieslie? How much will we compromise of our own ethics? Does the endss justify the means?

This is the best kind of sci-fi, not just for it's action but also because it examines who we are and where we are as a culture. as a people and as a nation. I hope that if you haven't been watching.. you'ill give it a try. And to those of us watching... if you're anything like me, don't bother me on Monday at 10. I've been hooked on the show since it started... throwing in LedZeppelinjust was theicingon the cake!

I know that there is a trend in not allowing shows to grow. But NBC has the best record on letting new shows develop a viewership. I am hoping that this happens with Revolution.

Mike,

You don't have to wait for Netflix. It's on the NBC site, if you can bring that up on the TV.

But I know the feeling about getting into a show only to have it canceled. It has happened so many times to me, too.

I totally agree, Bruce. And I knew about EMP pulses. But I thought they only knocked out power for a little while.

Better hope we never have that killer solar flare then.

I am not sure if any governments have such a device as a weapon yet. I know that you can buy one on the internet, so my assumption is yes... but if it is weapon grade, I am not sure.

So this show really is a case of training day. Gonna watch it in a whole different light. BTW, why do you think the developers turned off the power?

Yeah boy. I've been keeping up with this despite the various huge questions and nittwittery in the plot. It's the only Post Apocalyptic Soap Opera in town.

My first two questions would be, where are the guns? And, where did all the swords come from? Were they having a sale down at the local Post Apocalyptic Suwannee Swifty?

I've been entertained thus far though I have a large capacity for corn. I give it Thumbs Up in the Fist of Cheese category. Much fun.....

Tex,

I think that one is supposed to assume that after 15 years without power, they have gone back to making those kinds of weapons, since they are not allowed guns and need protection from the lawlessness.

The guns have been stockpiled by the militias.

Therein lies the rub. 15 years? Heck there is enough ammo and firearmery in this country to last decades and decades. I know for a fact that in my neck o the woods it would have to be a mighty large and well provisioned militia to round up our guns. Hillbillies just don't cotton to the idea in general. As those good ol boys in Anonymous are wont to say, "We are legion."

Still, it is a mighty fun show.

best to you and yours.....

One other thought in regard to this and other post apocalyptic tv shows. I am beginning to feel like I am poot outa luck with this sit rep. Apparently only really good looking folks survive catastrohic happenstance. The Horror. The Horror......

Sounds like an interesting show. Fortunately/unfortunately...I don't have 'live' TV. Ah'll have ta wait until it comes out on Netflix.

Ah haveta say...it's been nice being 'disconnected' from 'live' regular programing. When engaged, people are constantly being bombarded with advertising and propaganda. Some of it conscious (overt), some unconscious (covert). A troubling and scary thing thaa. I've noticed a real difference since we became 'disconnected' over a year ago. But thas another topic...

Interesting, as TV goes I'm the same. Without DVR or netflix, I wouldn't watch any tv at all, except for DVD's!

Now, the Net, that's a different kettle of fish!

I wouldn't watch TV if it wasn't for the DVR, either.

This site keeps me on the computer a bulk of my day.

Miss Perrie...Seriously...?

ok...when we decided to drop 'live' programing, we had a period of 'withdrawal'. We were in a routine of watching our 'favorite' shows and of course, glued to the news fer me. I was tuned to the news most of the day as ah puttered around. We had the set up to record our favorite shows so we could zip through the commercials. Ah HATE commercials wit a passion.

We decided to switch to Netflix...it's much less expensive and of course, commercial free. Plus, it allowed us to have access to a wide range of documentaries which ah REALLY enjoy watching. In addition, we can select and watch 'whatever' when we make the time to watch. We fit our viewing into OUR schedule...not the TV Guide schedule. So much of regular programing is simply MINDLESS canned laughter sitcom crap. After awhile, it jus becomes grating...Ah have no doubt that this is one of the reasons why network programing is currently going into the toilet. It's jus STUPID. Plus, as ah mentioned, there are other better programing alternatives now...

Even satellite/cable is for the most part...garbage. It chaps ma ass the way they throw 200 channels of programing at customers, and we maybe might watch 5-10 different channels, but ah'm paying huge monthly fees for all 200. Ah wonder when they will figger out that people want to CHOOSE and pay for jus the channels and programing we want to watch, instead of being FORCED to pay $50 bucks PLUS a month fer alot of crap we NEVER watch? In my opinion...thas jus ah buncha horse shit.

Our lives don't revolve around the tube anymore. We still use it fer diversion in the evenings sometimes, but it doesn't suck our heads and our 'Time' like it used to. We find time for other things like reading or making time for our friends and sharing good conversation. Dare ah say it...even the internet can be a 'Time sucker' fer me. It's become my next best diversion. The other disturbing element of 'live TV' is the constant barrage of commercials. On commercial TV, twenty minutes out of every hour of programing is devoted to 'selling' us something over and over and over and over ad- nausium. Our brains are barraged with buy this an buy thaa...

The average 'Time' a picture is held is about 1 to 3 seconds. Thaa constant flashing, changing the scene captures our brains and keeps us glued to the tube as it sucks the life and money out of us. It defines our reality. It defines our priorities. It defines our values. It defines our culture. It defines our wants and needs. It defines our perceptions. It defines our politics. It defines our relationships. It defines our sentiments. It defines our roles. It defines what is important and what is not. It defines our nation. It defines our government. It defines the world.

There is a battle going on for our minds...Unplug...

A whole different topic...you asked fer it.

Huzzah !!!

I unplugged almost two years ago. I miss NFL a little, but I always work on sunday, and trying to get through the day without hearing the score is troublesome.

I love the feature now on Netflix that it will chain a series.

Yes, the internet has gladly filled the void in my free time, but at least I have to participate, instead of having my brain sucked out and filled with ads.

ya dont have to wait for it to go to netflix , hulu has it under their popular tv tab , just scroll through the shows and its there , all free. now on hulu if there is a hulu + sign , that show is only available on their pay service .

another blast from the past was the TV show Jericho , it was along the same lines of post apocolptic survival starred skeet urich i believe.

My daughter gives me no end of grief for liking "Jericho".

Hey, what happened to Revolution? It just sort of stopped. I guess if I were not a worthless shiftless slothful fellow I could look it up.

I've been watching this. I watch entirely too much television. The DVR gets a work out, I can FF through all the commercials, but now I can watch twice as much programming.
