10 Creepy Halloween Pumpkins
For me, it has always been a great accomplishment to carve a pumpkin for Halloween. First you have to pick the best pumpkin one can find, then find a sharp knife. Sometimes, I've had to sharpen the knife, because I could get it in, but not through the skin.
My husband often helps me. Scooping out mountains of goo, and picking out the seeds to roast, I used to roast the seeds in the oven, and give them to the birds. No more-- they make a horrid mess, and then, I've had pumpkins growing in the back yard, which annoys my husband to no end. No matter what I tried, hours later, I always ended up with the regular old pumpkin.
In other words, nothing special.
Today, people seem to go out of their way to create pumpkin art! Fantastic forms of fantasy, portraits, and horror movie characters. There is even a scary pumpkin festival here in Louisville, where people walk through a trail with scary pumpkins lining the path along one of the wooded city parks. Despite the amount of labor intensive hours involved, the Art Department at the University of Louisville, usually sponsors a huge section of the pumpkin walk.
Here are some beautifully creative pumpkins-- which are, frankly, so far beyond my abilities as to make me feel totally inadequate!
Which one is your favorite?
Thanks for coming by!
These are so far beyond my ability, as to be laughable!
Anything beyond triangular eyes, nose and a few scattered teeth exceeds by artistic ability. The pumpkin would mold and rot before I'd be able to create a masterpiece.
I do admire and try not to envy the creativity of others Have a safe and Happy Halloween.
Exactly how I feel! I'm just not able to be that creative! Nor do I have the time... Nor do I want to clean up the mess... I always feel I've accomplished something just to get it hollowed out!
Back in the "olde" days they used to just put a lit candle inside a carved pumpkin . But today we have LED technology . Now all I need is the imagination to come up with an electronic creation ...
Still a traditionalist...a lit candle in every pumpkin! Provides a great lesson to children about fire.
I'm with Lynne! We gots to have those candles!
They are spookier!
Yikes!
