Musician or Dancer ? BOTH !

I am completely blown away by the talent that Lindsey Stirling demonstrates . No wonder she consistently ranks as one of the highest rated youtube performers : Enjoy ...

Petey,

Her talents are unique and compelling; I get the sense that the music is recorded over the video because they don't always align throughout … but either way, her playing, her dancing and the setting together are just great!

I'm glad you enjoyed her performance Mac . Of course you're right about the video . It is the studio polished version and not supposed to be live action . If you want to see that it is here :

Wow, She's amazing. I have never heard of her before this. Gonna check out some other stuff of hers

As a person who used to play the violin I can tell you how hard it is to do what she does.

Hi AK ,

You knew one I was not familiar with . Kershaw is quite a talented performer and way ahead of his time . He has the ability to fiddle and sing at the same time with some dancing thrown in for good measure . Here's a vid I found of him . Feel free to post others :

Thanks for the music, Petey. Will be checking more of her out. "Shades of Doug Kershaw", for sure AK. Haven't heard his name for about 20 years.

It's been about that long since I last thought about the " raging Cajun " as well Don. :-)

Watching Ms. Stirling fiddling while she dances shot me back more than 40 years to a drive-in movie from the early 70's called " Zachariah ".

That movie gave me my first taste of Cajun music, through Kershaw's fiddling, and there was one scene where he's fiddling while dancing along the edge of a desert mountain top.  Looked all over trying to find that scene to add here but was unable to do so.

Here is a fun song by Arvel...A tribute to Indian Motorcycles. Flute, Fiddle and a bit of singing. He is more of a story teller than a singer. Which he mixes quite well in some of his songs/videos. Oh, forgot to add he is also a Fancy Dancer, you'll see another Fancy Dancer at the end of the video. Arvel is a very good Fancy Dancer.

Kavika, lots to admire in this vid!  His work on the flute is fabulous, not that the violin work is lacking in this fun song.  The subject matter is near to my heart, no prettier bike than a vintage Indian Chief...although being the co-rider, a more comfortable pillion seat is desired!  Haven't riden a horse in about 5 years...but at least the saddle is accomodating.  Last, a glimpse of a Hoop Dance was added bonus :)  I could watch that dance and all it variations for hours.

Dear Friend Kavika: I am certainly sharing this video with the Greater Monroe County Harley Davidson Motorcycle Society and Pastry Patrons. This is the group of cyclists I am Chaplain for every Sunday between 3:00 - 5:00 PM.

They are veterans Harley Hog drivers. They all know The Indian.

There is a great Anthony Hopkins movie about a man from New Zealand who rode an old out of date Indian he fixed in his home garage. At the Bonneville Salt Flats he set speed records with it. Its a movie worth watching. Available on Netflix.

Very Cool Kavika! I love the blend of traditional Indian music with rock. The fancy dancing at the end was really cool with the music!

Thanks for trying Six.  I also found that one, and had the same problem with the volume you did.  Didn't use it because it's not the one I was looking for.

"Zachariah" was such a hodgepodge of a movie that it's hard to describe.

First let the "Fireside Theater" write a script heavily based on Hermann Hesse's, Siddhartha.

Then take some of the music acts of the 60's, (Country Joe and the Fish, The James Gang, Joe Walsh, Doug Kershaw, etc), throw in very young actors like Don Johnson, (before he made the classic "A boy and his dog"), put them in cowboy outfits and set your story in the old west, while still showing everyone playing their music on screen and you'll get a sense of the shows weirdness.

The memory brought forth by Petey's video was from a point in the movie where young Zackariah was riding through a canyon, during his spiritual journey, when he suddenly hears the fiddle music playing and looks up to see the "Strange Fiddler" playing and dancing on the cliffs edge.  Just one of the bizarre visions he had along his quest.

The dialog in the movie was pretty crappy but the music and 60's style weirdness kind of stuck with me.

Because the movie had made such an impression on me I would teased my wife with the taunt that I was going to name our first born son, Zachariah Obadiah Willoughby, (we'd call him "ZOW" for short).

The night our son was born she was worried enough to warn me I better not do any such thing. She was always commenting on how "Warped" my sense of humor could be. lol

Looked and could not find it either. Would be good to see a compilation of Doug and Lindsay playing and dancing, ala Hank Sr. and Hank Jr. videos of songs dubbed together. Don't remember the movie, but I have had some serious fun at drive-in theaters, many yrs. ago of course. winking

Petey, thanks for a fabulous posting!  What a talented, and on a side note beautiful, young woman.  Took a stroll around Youtube and watched her Phantom of the Opera and a few other covers...excellent.

Always fun to find an artist I'm not aware of...getting out of my musical rut...thanks again.

Dear Friend Petey: Indeed I did. G-d holds a special place in His heart for the performing arts and artists.

Please see Psalms. "Make a joyful noise unto the L0-rd, all you lands. Serve the L-rd with gladness. Come before His Presence with singing".

Good enough for G-d, I am all in!

Music and dance heal the soul. Nourishes the spirit. Renews energy. Uplifts our emotions.

I napped most of the day today. My physical therapist and primary care physician's offices never called me back. Most of the day I rested or slept. Not sure if it did my back injuries and good. It certainly did them no harm.

In between I went to youtube and watched, listening to some of my favorite musical pieces there.

I really do feel better when I can connect to music and art of appeal.

Now I have one more go to artist in Lindsey Sterling to whom to turn.

Thanks. We are all grateful for the heads up.

Enoch.

P.S. At my age, any day I get out of bed I am inspired.

When people start asking you what was it like to live before the written word, all I can do is say, "At my age I cna't recall".

Smiles.

Dear Friend Petey: LOL.

Our good friend Methusalah (Metushelach) at age 90 was once asked, does you feel you are too old to be a prophet any more?

He replied, Can ya speak up sonny. I've gone a bit deef in this ear. Sat to close to the speaker at a Genesis Concert!

In them days, they knew how to rock around the sundial.
