Bruce Casper was working at the Chili's in the Pittsburg Mills Mall in west PA when two female coworkers called him "retarded." Casper's youngest son Kyron has Down Syndrome, and when he said he would not tolerate the use of that word his manager said to him, "You can leave then."
So leave he did! But when he returned, he found that he was not on the schedule any longer. Casper's girlfriend Crista Miller took to social media to put the Chili's employees on blast.
One of the managers has used the word retarded just in conversation, which is completely inappropriate," Miller said. "Not only for Kyron, but for all kids with special needs, whether it's Down syndrome or something else. There's a right and there's a wrong, and this is wrong."
A Chili's spokeswoman issued the following statement: "This is certainly not the behavior we condone in our restaurants. We take allegations like this very seriously and we are investigating." But the company has yet to actually DO anything a month later- the GM and aforementioned employees still have their jobs.
That word is not acceptable" Crista Miller says. We couldn't agree more.
"You can leave then", said the Chili's GM to frustrated father And he did....good for him!
Tempest in a teapot situation.
