George Zimmerman's Gun Used in Trayvon Martin's Death to Be Auctioned Off (ABC News)

George Zimmerman, the man who was acquitted in the shooting death of Trayvon Martin in 2013, is selling his gun.

The 9mm pistol that Zimmerman, 32, said was used to shoot and kill Trayvon Martin on February 26, 2012 is up for sale Thursday on gunbroker.com.

"The firearm for sale is the firearm that was used to defend my life and end the brutal attack from Trayvon Martin," Zimmerman wrote on the auction site. "Many have expressed interest in owning and displaying the firearm including The Smithsonian Museum in Washington D.C . This is a piece of American History," said Zimmerman.

George Zimmerman Found Not Guilty and Goes Free

The auction goes live at 11 a.m. ET Thursday with bids starting at $5,000. Almost 50,000 have visited the page according to the site.

Its been more than four years since the fatal confrontation took place in a gated community in Sanford, Florida. Martin, 17, was heading back to a relative's house after leaving a convenience store when he was shot by Zimmerman.

Prosecutors accused Zimmerman of profiling Martin as a criminal and following him with a loaded gun. Zimmerman maintained that he shot Martin in self-defense after he was knocked to the ground and Martin was banging his head against the pavement. Zimmerman is a white Hispanic and Martin was black.

In July, 2013, a Florida jury found Zimmerman not guilty of second-degree murder and manslaughter.

The trial sparked rallies across the country and created a national debate over law enforcement deaths of black men and boys.

George must be desperate for cash.  He's a piece of shit who should be sitting on death row - hopefully karma helps him find his way to a terminal position on skid row.

So you do believe in something "spiritual" . Karma is a term from a religion , I won't say which one .

People who evade justice occasionally get what they deserve, no magic required.  Calling it karma doesn't make it mystical, it's just a short and sweet way of saying "you're an asshole, and you got what you deserved."

I think that's what happened to Trayvon.

What did Trsyvon do to deserve the death penalty before he was even an adult? Punch a white-ish pussy who couldn't mind his own business?

Attempted murder is considered a serious crime ...

There is no evidence Martin tried to kill Zimmerman.

Petey quit while you are behind.

No evidence ? You're delusional if you believe that ...

Tell us what this evidence is.

We know that Zimmerman said Martin tried to kill him (that is why he says he shot him).  What is the evidence?    Zimmerman didn't even testify at the trial.

The trial brought up a lot of that evidence . I don't see any point in rehashing that info . If you really want it you can google it ... BTW your unresponsiveness in dialogue has made it inevitable that your inquiries will be unanswered . Suck it up ...

I know what the 'evidence' is Petey. Zimmerman claimed that Martin tried to take his gun.

No evidence of this was produced.

Zimmerman got off basically because he was losing the fight and Florida law permitted him to act as if his life was in danger. Maybe it was and maybe it wasn't but there was no evidence of it.

Just to make it clear, this is from the New York Times the night of the verdict.

"Even after three weeks of testimony, the fight between Mr. Martin and Mr. Zimmerman on that rainy night was a muddle, fodder for reasonable doubt. It remained unclear who had started it, who screamed for help, who threw the first punch and at what point Mr. Zimmerman drew his gun. There were no witnesses to the shooting."

He got off because he was violently attacked ...

It was extremely clear to Zimmerman that he was being violently attacked . In a similar situation feel free to get your ass handed to you ...

A portion of it is going towards some good causes.

Zimmerman's listing said a portion of the proceeds would go toward fighting what Zimmerman calls violence by the Black Lives Matter movement against law enforcement officers, combatting anti-gun rhetoric of Democratic presidential candidate  Hillary Clinton  and ending the career of state attorney Angela Corey, who led Zimmerman's prosecution.

Here is the latest about the auction results :

Apparently the original auction site dropped that item from being bid on but it got more than 200,000 views ! There seems to be quite a lot of public interest .

Your view that this was murder was not the result from a legitimate trial in an actual court of law . Listening to leftist MSM is a sure way to get wrong info . The fact that you accept the MSM version of events does not speak well of your fact gathering abilities .

BTW the picture of Trayvon shown in the video is Trayvon as a young innocent child not as the teenage thug he turned into ! More proof of bias in the MSM ...

MSM has absolutely nothing to do with my "view"...ever live in Florida Petey?  Specifically Sanford?  I have, so that along with the fact if Zimmerman followed the LEO directions, Trayvon would be alive and one less family would be grieving the death of their child.

Wouldn't be the first trial whose outcome was in error.  But Trayvon's dead, Zimmerman is free, the world's still spinning and most people could care absolutely less.

most people could care absolutely less.

Based on the reaction to this article on NT that seems to be inaccurate . Did you see the video about the auction ? There were more than 200,000 views of the gun for sale . That does not qualify as apathy ...

Wouldn't be the first trial whose outcome was in error.

The outcome was precisely what the legal system considers considers a fair trial . In the event of inadequate evidence of murder the defendant should be acquitted . And he was . Imagine that !

if Zimmerman followed the LEO directions, Trayvon would be alive

It is likely a thug like Trayvon would have run afoul of the the law and either be in jail or dead ... He wasn't smart enough to avoid prosecution ...

Attaching apathy to 200,000 views I suppose works just as well as what I'd see as loathsome curiosity.

Petey, we'll never agree on the outcome and I'm good with that.  Trayvon is dead, shot to death and that's all we know for certain.

We also know that Zimmerman was acquitted as he should have been in the absence of concrete evidence of guilt .

George Zimmerman gun auction draws trolls

On Friday afternoon, United Gun Group posted a statement to Twitter expressing condolences to Martin's family, but appearing to support the continuation of Zimmerman's auction.
"Unless the law has been violated, it is the intention of United Gun Group to allow its members to use any of the available features," the statement read.

....

"The pistol currently has the case number written on it in silver permanent marker," he wrote.

....

The gun sale is not Zimmerman's first effort at auction.
In 2013, he sold a painting of the U.S. flag depicted in blue with the words "GOD ONE NATION with LIBERTY and JUSTICE FOR ALL" inscribed on it.
That work sold for $100,099.99 on eBay.
