Considering this news source is a pro-union site, the story is basically written in the style called; "Preaching To The Choir." It quotes a lot of stats that are unverifiable. You either take them at their word (no), research the facts (I don't think so) or take it with a grain of salt (I can do that).
As a persuasive article, I'll give it a C-. They may have a valid point but failed to make a strong case.

The problem with this is that the numbers involved are too tiny , in a nation of 200 million adults, to mean anything.
If you double a miniscule number, what you then have may still be a miniscule number, rendering the "doubling" almost meaningless.
Let's say that one of the 535 members of Congress is on record as saying that Donald Trump should be placed on Mt. Rushmore. Later , a second member of Congress goes on record as also supporting the idea.
A headline could be written "Congressional Support For Trump To Be Placed On Mt Rushmore Doubles Overnight" but it would be meaningless.
This is just my commentary on how the article was written.
