Students pass end-of-year tests, leaving teachers to eat live worms

Teachers at one Central Texas elementary school have rewarded their students for finishing their end-of-year tests by performing a series of escalating dares -- including eating live worms.

The Killeen Daily Herald reports that students at Clements/Parsons Elementary School in Copperas Cove exceeded their school goals on their statewide STAAR tests. So they got to challenge their teachers to perform stunts for a live audience.

One teacher had to kiss a guinea pig, and another ate frog legs. But reading and language arts teacher Michele Cox had to eat live earthworms.

Cox joked that she chased the worms with chocolate.

Another teacher, Larissa Wilkinson had to kiss a guinea pig while math teacher Janet Dees ate frog legs, the Killeen Daily Herald reported.

"Frog legs are really gamey," Dees told the paper. "The worms were able to just slide down the throat, but I actually had to chew the frog. It's just not right."

The teachers won strong reviews from their students. One 10-year-old, Emma Wasiak, says she was disgusted, but impressed that "they really did what they said they would do."

These sound like some great teachers to me

They figured out how to best motivate their students to succeed and when the students accomplished their end of the bet the teachers came through like champions.

A salute to these fine educators.

Thanks for a great article on something that is right with the schools in the U.S.

Just like the 10 year old student said,... I'm impressed that they really did what they said they would do.
