Charlotte Homicides In 2017 - A Look At The Victims

Updated June 19, 2017

Homicide in Charlotte is on the rise. In 2017, there have been 42. The total number of homicides in 2016 is 67.

CMPD Chief Kerr Putney said in March his department is doing what it can to combat the problem.

"We’re in the hot spots. We’re seizing guns, taking illegal guns off the street, we’re focusing on those repeat offenders. We’re also looking at suspects who are escalating their violence. If I go from pointing a gun at you to shooting at a house to shooting at a car, it’s not illogical that you might shoot a person," Putney said in March.

Since he made that statement, more people have been killed in Charlotte.

WFAE is tracking Charlotte’s homicides, and remembering the victims, through an interactive timeline below. ( View officer involved shootings .)

I think there are two more since this article was published according to the news this morning.  A city I've lived in for decades has got me wanting to move away from it.  I'm certainly not going to defend a city where violence has become such a big issue.

People riot and tell us he was just getting his live together right before he was killed.  I've been in stores that have been robbed a half dozen times in the last year.  I didn't even put any of that information on here yet.  Murders are by far not the biggest problems we have in Charlotte.

I've seen mother's on the phone cursing their children out and telling them they better straighten it out while these mothers are in places throwing away the money provided for the welfare of their families.  I hear how many children go to bed hungry every night and I have a real understanding why and it is not because they aren't provided with the funds to buy them the food.

Big cities have had crime issues since the beginning of time. A lot of opportunity.

Sometimes it's best to just abandon them and plow it under and return it to farm land. The worst thing is to believe the politicians that say they want to steal more of your earnings and give it to the lawless bums.
