Roadtrip Yuma-Hamden, Spring 201
We started the trip with a nice little zoo. Hard to photograph. I had to shoot through the cages, and try to get decent focus anyway. The camera wanted to focus on the cage, of course! 😕
We saw lots of "vast expanses of scenery", but there are only a few photos -- they're really hard to get right.
Several of the museums we visited were big on pre-Columbian pottery, so there's lots of that -- pretty hard to photograph because their glass cases mess with both lighting and focus. There was some Oriental stuff, and lots of paintings, primarily by American artists. The Warhol stuff comes across pretty well.
I kinda like the photos from the Air Force Museum at Wright-Patterson Airbase in Dayton, Ohio. The airplanes are all scrambled together, so there's no way to get a good "picture of the plane". So instead, I did "shapes and colors", and I think some are pretty good.
We ended at the Corning Glass museum, a very pleasant surprise. The "bug pictures" are actually drawn glass.

It will take a bit of time, but with your consent, Bob, I'll try to fit them in their entirety.
I went into the HTML and dropped them all to 512 wide. Thanks, anyway!
SENSATIONAL PHOTO ESSAY, Bob!
You and Buzz continue to raise the standard of posts on NT … you do us proud.
Great photo essay, Bob.
Very nice. I see some masks and busts that belong in my collection.
Regarding the photo sizes, nearly every image on NT is cut off on my phone, which is how I access NT 99% of the time. The nice thing about it is that I can just hold my finger on the image and push down, and it will temporarily resize the image to fit the screen.
My beloved old Xperia Z Ultra, a 6.44 inch behemoth, died a few weeks ago. I got a Samsung S8+, which has a 6.2 inch screen and almost no bezels. It's great!
Phone calls are a minor part of my phone usage. I surf and I read. This screen (I'm using it now) is comfortable for both. Opera is my browser, largely because it can be set to always use a'y site's "desktop" interface, rather than the mobile one. And tje phone's screen is big enough to do it comfortably. My photos are not chopped off.
One minor problem: the phone costs a small fortune.
Awesome photos. Years ago I went to an 'Order of the Sword' ceremony for General Welch there, we had dinner among the airplanes, quite a dramatic setting. I went as a teen to Corning to the glass museum and factories. Saw real glass blowing for the first time in my life. So much that is commonplace n America came form New York at one time.
The Air Force museum is awesome. Literally.
I didn't know what to expect from Corning. It's a very nice mix of old and new.
Wonderful pictures, Bob! Quite a collection! Thanks for posting them!
Digital cameras are terrible things. By the end of the trip, I had over a thousand photos. Then I had to review and edit all of them! 😬
Amazing photo essay. And thanks for the tip on shooting animals in cages. I never could either.
Dear Friend Bob Nelson: Great photo essay of your trip.
Thanks for sharing it.
Welcome Home.
