White Nationalist Item Of The Day

"I was reading the book "How to Win Friends & Influence People", and one of the points Carnegie brings up is that a world-famous magician had two techniques which made him famous:
1) He had a genuine interest in making his audience happy (this is the point he's going over in the chapter)
2) He planned out every gesture, every intonation of his voice, every lifting of an eyebrow.

The second point, the minor point Carnegie was bringing up, remined me of Hitler. I think I heard on the History channel years ago that Hitler was taught by a magician on how to beef up his oratory skills.

Is this true?

If so, can you please give me some information on it? I think if we knew how to influence people more, we'd be more successful in gaining converts to our Philosophy."

I took the Dale Carnegie Course several years ago at Cal-Poly during the operation of my first business. I not only took the course, but, returned as an Assistant to the Instructor for 3 more classes.

Having been both a fashion and photography model in my late teens and early 20's, I was not fearful of being up in front of people, but, wanted to improve on my communication with others. I still have the books that came with the course, including the book you speak of.

We were not instructed in the manner described above, where ever gesture and voice tone is pre-planned. We were, however, taught how to speak in a manner that was not monotone or with a lot of uhs, ems and ers. Body language is also a part of communication when speaking with others in person. The more relaxed and confident you appear the more people will pay attention to what you are saying and not what your body is doing from nervousness or self-consciousness.

I did not find it 'Hitler' intoned at all. It just helps you be a better, more constructive speaker, and helps build your self-confidence. I truly enjoyed the course and helping others as an Assistant to the Instructor.

Just my thoughts on it

I took read the book as part of my administration courses for my masters in education. I found nothing in it Hitler like. In fact, I thought that the book taught me a lot about how to deal with people in a professional level.

As Owner and Gen. Manager of my company at the time, which made specially designed wire and plastic products for the food and Nursery industry, I had to meet with a lot of Dept heads, VP's and store level managers of some of the largest companies in the US at the time, as well as the military. I needed to be able to discuss specifics about or products and design criteria on a highly professional level with these people. So for me taking this course was very important and helped me develop my communication skills to fit all aspects of my business.

It was the best investment I ever made, as it also served me well during my various career choices later in life.

There were 4 responders. Two of them seem to think I wrote the comment in the article and the other two want to discuss the merits of Dale Carnegie's book.

Uh, this article was a send up of neo-Nazis.

It is an actual seeded article from a white supremacist website.

I give up.

You should read the book it's fantastic.  I've read it at least three times. The course is a lot of fun too.

Here's the PDF.

We were previously told it would be bad form to link to white supremacist sites. If anyone wants the link send me an email.

I put the material in quotes to make sure no one thought it was me saying it.
