Proof Of Global Warming
A lot of people like to use anecdotal evidence on NT, so I will declare proof of global warming.
It was 94 degrees in Chicago today, Sept 22, the first day of autumn. It was 93 yesterday and is supposed to be 92 tomorrow. Four straight days of record breaking high temperatures at the end of September.
A suburban 'high school had to cancel their homecoming dance tonight because the school gymnasium where the dance was to take place doesnt have air conditioning.
I also heard that 7 states had record high temperatures today.
Eighteen ambulances responded to a pep rally at Morton West High School in …
Probably snow next week.
John, while you have had record heat where you are, here in So Calif where I am we have had well below average temps for most of the entire month of Sept. Normally, Sept is the hottest moth of summer for us, with temps in the triple digit most days. Yet, here we are near the end of the month, and we have yet to have even one day in triple digits, and abnormally temps in the mid-80s to low 90's most days this month. While the cooler temps are a welcome change, the fact that the weather here has changed drastically this whole year makes a good case for climate change. We had enough rain and snow this last January and February to totally break a five year drought, with a water surplus.
The fact that we got so much rain and snow in those months is in itself strange for So Calif., much less the rest of the state.
IMHO, climate change is real, and I feel sure we can see a lot more unusual weather patterns in the coming months and years.
Just my own thoughts.
There are so many aspects of climate change that don't get the attention they warrant. One is the migration of infectious diseases into areas with little to no immunity against them. With shifting temperatures come migrations of species outside of their natural environments. One example is leishmaniasis spreading northward into North America. This horrific and difficult to treat infection is spread by sandflies and rodents that are migrating where the weather is warmer. While it used to be relegated to Central America, it is now becoming more common in North America. This horrific infection has three varieties, one of which will literally leave a gaping hole where your face once was. Treatment is extremely expensive, and is as toxic as chemo therapy.
