How and how often we communicate with those closest to us and to the world in general has certainly changed over the past two decades and is changing even faster in past few.
Chances are the changes will come even faster in the future.
Real letters are great, but also, they can drive you crazy! I'm glad I have the letters from my great-great grandmother to my great-grandmother... I think of them as historical documents!
My wife sent my grandson a letter to thank him for a birthday card a couple of years ago and there were a couple of complaints from him - one with the limited teaching of cursive writing he ha trouble reading the letter (he is 14) and two he almost threw the letter away because "snail mail" is always junk.
We still get letters from old friends and hand written cards which we treasure - the kids and grandkids mainly it is www.greetingcards.com for them
We have a rotary telephone that my grandson is sure is like the one Alexander Graham Bell used
Our granddaughter noted to me that grandmadidn't send gift cards/money as often as she used to and I replied that she didn't call or write her grandma much anymore. She replied that they were facebook friends and I told her I would have grandma post a picture of a gift card. She didn't think it was as funny as I did

RIOGood thinking on your part!! I hope your Grand daughter learned a valuable lesson.
Me, either, Kavika!
They talk more often now, though as she is in college it is not as much as grandma would like, but they are both more content.
