Trump immigration chief: Trump has done more for public safety than last 5 presidents

December 4, 2017

ICE Deputy Director Tom Homan: "[ @realDonaldTrump ] has done more for border security and public safety than any of the six presidents I've worked for." pic.twitter.com/atVFFK0R6d

— Fox News (@FoxNews) December 4, 2017

President Trump’s director of Immigration and Customs Enforcement on Monday said that Trump has done more for public safety than any of the previous five presidents.

Thomas Homan said on “Fox & Friends” that the president has strengthened border security by letting ICE officials “do their job.”

“This president has done more for border security and public safety than any of the six presidents I’ve worked for,” he said. “Just since his leadership in January, border crossings are at a 45-year low. Now that's not a coincidence. That's because this president has let the men and women of Border Patrol and ICE do their job."

Trump tapped Homan, who has served ICE for more than 30 years, as acting director of the agency soon after he took office. Trump nominated Homan as the permanent director in November.

Immigration arrests surged in the first months of Trump’s presidency, with the biggest increase being arrests of immigrants without criminal records.

Trump campaigned on a hard-line immigration stance, including strengthening border security through a wall with Mexico and cracking down on illegal immigration and “sanctuary” cities. In September, ICE arrested hundreds of immigrants in a series of crackdowns on sanctuary cities.

Trump’s demands for a border wall intensified last week after an undocumented immigrant was acquitted in the 2015 shooting death of Kate Steinle.

ICE has faced backlash under Trump for its increased crackdowns, particularly for the arrest of a 10-year-old girl with cerebral palsy, who was detained after border patrol agents staked out the hospital where she was having emergency surgery.

And it shows.  He has a 5% approval rating in Mexico. LOL

Pretty obvious he isn't running popularity contest like the others.  He would be eliminated before he enter became a contestant, but we're safer for his lower poll ratings in this regard. LOL

In September, the Washington Post reported that ICE agents had arrested 43 percent more people since Trump took office than they did over the same time period during the year before . They’d also arrested nearly three times as many so-called “noncriminal immigration violators,” people who faced no criminal charges.

But that still doesn’t put the agency on track to match the annual arrest totals from 2012 through 2014 , when then-president Barack Obama earned the nickname “deporter-in-chief.”

Locally, too, ICE isn’t arresting nearly as many people as it was during the height of Arizona’s anti-immigrant fervor. According to records released by the agency, ICE’s Office of Enforcement and Removal Operations carried out a total of 2,504 administrative arrests in Arizona between January 20 — the date of Trump’s inauguration — and June 7. That averages out to fewer arrests per month than in 2009, when ICE arrested 13,463 people in total.

....Oops

Well, I guess they got the message, didn't they?  Obama had a lot higher approval rating in Mexico.  Now many more of them know not to try to get into this country illegally like they did when Obama was opening the door to them by Executive Order giving amnesty to all those who were successful in their endeavor.  If you don't have the high number of illegal crossings, you can't have the high number of "Deporter-In-Chief", so now we can call Trump the "Keep Em Out Chief" and we're safer for it according to the man who has worked for the last 5 Presidents.

Let's see who the last five Presidents were:

Trump, Obama, Bush, Clinton, and GW Bush

Finally, someone is doing the job the way it should be done in the first place.  If you keep them out you don't have to deport them.  If you make it clear they will be deported, you don't have as many trying to get it.  Get it. LOL

Well, I guess they got the message, didn't they?  Obama had a lot higher approval rating in Mexico.

And?! So Obama had a higher approval rating in Mexico? Still doesn't take away the fact that this story is based off OPINION and not FACT!

Now many more of them know not to try to get into this country illegally like they did when Obama was opening the door to them by Executive Order giving amnesty to all those who were successful in their endeavor.

Obama has had only ONE executive order regarding immigration and that was for DACA and ONLY for those that crossed the border BEFORE he became President and were adolescents.

If you don't have the high number of illegal crossings, you can't have the high number of "Deporter-In-Chief", so now we can call Trump the "Keep Em Out Chief" and we're safer for it according to the man who has worked for the last 5 Presidents.

Not according to the numbers! You can stop riding the wave those border numbers that came out in January now, research has shown border crossings have ALWAYS decreased in significant number around that time......that is nothing Trump has done or implemented, it's just trends. Not to mention Obama had more deportations and arrests with the measures he had than Trump has had, which means actually did more for public safety because he actually did get the violent criminals out of the country instead of the little children with cerebral palsy or a Trump puts them "bad hombres"!

Get it. LOL

So, I guess you missed the part about immigrant arrests are still lower than what it was under Obama's administration as well! So just how is Trump keeping the public safe again?

Sure, I'll go with that.  Thomas Homan, "Director of Immigration and Customs Enforcement" who has worked under 4 Presidents before Trump has an opinion.

And this is it.

“This president has done more for border security and public safety than any of the six presidents I’ve worked for,” he said. “Just since his leadership in January, border crossings are at a 45-year low. Now that's not a coincidence. That's because this president has let the men and women of Border Patrol and ICE do their job."

Once again, his OPINION, which he so convenient DOESNT back up by empirical data or evidence! It doesn't matter if he is the director, not backing up that comment with evidence is worthless!

Umm.....maybe you should research DAPA.....that wasn't across the board amnesty, they had the same guidelines as DACA which means anyone that came AFTER 2007 would not be elgible.....so how did that ENCOURAGE illegal immigration?

DAPA didn't make it out the gate - only DACA - and SCOTUS said it was unconstitutional.

But yet you drank this article from The Hill right up didn't you!......And it was referenced by a interview that came from Fox and Friends!......Pure Comedy!

And this is the icing on the cake....because if you would have read any further than the first few words and then immediately went into fake news mode you would have read that the Washington Post article was about the Trump administration making 43% MORE arrests this year than the previous year!

In September, the Washington Post reported that ICE agents had arrested 43 percent more people since Trump took office than they did over the same time period during the year before . So basically you saying the Washington Post is full of shit about that fact?!.....LOL!!!!laughing dude laughing dude

It is pure comedy that you are still relying on the Washington Post to give you factual information.  When you have a more reliable source, we'll talk.

You'd think it would make a dent in Willijays opinion since the Director of Immigration and Customs Enforcement who has worked under GW Bush, Clinton, George Bush, Obama and now Trump says......

“This president has done more for border security and public safety than any of the six presidents I’ve worked for,” he said. “Just since his leadership in January, border crossings are at a 45-year low. So in other words, you don't believe the Washington Post article stating Trump has had more arrests and deportations this year than Obama had last year?! So you fully admit that you are caught up in Trump's rhetoric about fake news that you don't even want to believe a source that gives him credit for something?!Digging a whole laughing dude laughing dude

The problem with WillieJ and those like him they don't care what the actual truth is.  Even if it is somebody that has worked for the last administration and this one.  If it reflects President Trump in a good light, they make every attempt to make it look bad (like using the Washington Post, CNN or MSNBC as sources).

As it should be.  Did you know that Obama was the "Deporter-In-Chief"?  Remember the Obama Administration suing Arizona for enforcing the immigration laws?

This point comes to mind.....

The lawsuit is part of a broader approach by President Barack Obama to deal with the 10.8 million illegal immigrants believed to be in the country, arguing that immigration is the responsibility of the federal government not each state.

Now what happened to that idea, immigration is the responsibility of the Federal Government, not each state?

Just red meat for the rabid base! That law will never get passed for the simple reason that no specific guidelines have been established to spells out what shelter actually means! They couldn't even get a law passed regarding taking away funding of Sanctuary cities, you actually think they would be able to pass a law attempting to charge officials?! I doubt it will even get passed the planning phase much less having a debate on the floor!

Congress makes/breaks laws.  All they have to do is amend the existing immigration law(s) by adding the recommended "Penalty Phase" to the existing penalties given for aiding/abetting/harbouring ILLEGAL ALIENS.

Ain't nuthin' too it.

You don't get it do you? It has nothing to do with penalty, it has to do with determining what would be considered "sheltering" The immigration law is so vague regarding state's rights and specifically what states are obligated to do regarding immigration, those penalties would never hold up against a halfway decent 10th Amendment argument.......like I said red meat to the base!

But, the Constitution is very explicit in its statement -

"Section 8

1: The Congress shall have Power . . .4: To establish an uniform Rule of Naturalization"

Nowhere in the Constitution does it state nor imply that the State's determine which rules they abide by or not.

So you are saying that a state has the right to ignore and not enforce federal immigration rules. Does that right not to enforce them also give them the right to enforce them as Arizona tried to do and was taken to court by obama?

"Just since his leadership in January, border crossings are at a 45-year low."

Because he's shat all over America so we are no longer that shining city on a hill that everyone wants to move to. We are now a laughing stock because the half wits in America elected the most incompetent President we've ever had. Trump is an embarrassment and it shows in how many people want to come visit and spend their money here.

That means jobs lost by the way, the US should WANT tourists to come and spend money boosting our economy, but sadly this buffoon in the white house who has disrespected and insulted almost every western democracy ally (though he's never insulted Putin) has severely injured international tourism. Just another example of the Commander in-Competent killing jobs and harming our economy.
