17 Jewish organizations send open letter demanding Stephen Miller’s dismissal

Last week,  17 Jewish organizations penned an  open letter  and sent it to the White House calling for the dismissal of the far-right Senior Policy Advisor  Stephen Miller . The letter claims Miller is guilty of “extreme viewpoints and advocacy of racist policies.” The protest was led by the National Council of Jewish Women. Here are excerpts:

As Jews, we are in solidarity with immigrants and refugees and believe that our nation must be a refuge and welcoming home for new Americans,” they wrote. Miller “has been an obstacle to passing widely-supported, bipartisan, popular, badly-needed immigration policy changes throughout his time in the administration.”

The coauthors call  Miller  the “architect” of two executive measures that limit admission into the United States for immigrants from countries including Iran, Libya, Syria, Yemen and Venezuelia. The letter also states:

“Stephen Miller opposes the beliefs we hold dear, and while he advises President  Trump  there will be no forward movement on immigration — to the detriment of this great nation founded by immigrants. We urge you to remove Miller from your team and the White House as soon as possible.”

Haaretz.com  reports on Miller’s recent interview with Fox News as he pushed his version of immigration reform via a border wall. Miller says he also wants to end visa lotteries and “chain migration,” which allows immigrants the opportunity to petition family members into the United States.

“Miller’s racist views should be enough to disqualify him from the White House, and his sway over President Trump has made it nearly impossible for Congress to move forward on a bipartisan deal to protect Dreamers — which 70-80% of Americans support. Senator Lindsey Graham held up Miller as an outlier even within their own party, and other Members of Congress point to Miller as a barrier to any type of agreement on immigration.”

As Trump does so often, Miller uses transference, projection, triangulating and flat out lies to try and manipulate the media and public by saying the Democrats are obstructing the building of Trump’s border wall, because they want “unending illegal immigration.”

Unlike Trump, Miller holds back a tad and won’t say, “I’m a fucking white racist and will do whatever I can to preserve the supremacy of my people, including banning anyone who doesn’t look like me, think like me, or who isn’t born in the America made great again by my leader Donald Trump. I’m what a racist piece of shit looks like.” And given Miller’s past, present and what he hopes to be his future agenda—this is no exaggeration.

Oh! No dissenting comments … good to see that everyone agrees that there's no place for bigots and xenophobes in the White House.

Proud of you NT members!

Proud!

Thanks for putting this up.  Well done.

On the other hand, I suspect the entire 'Trump Cabal' is dawdling on a beach as a hurricane approaches.  Stormy Seas ahead and so much more.  The hair flip is about to be blown away.  The sanctuary Miller and his cohorts sought under the belly of Trump are unaware of the looming light from the Sun and the Vampires stake readied to be driven.

Trump had some of the "Jewish Vote" in 2016 because of his so-called "pro-Israel" position, and, some "affinity" votes because he has a Jewish son-in-law.

But many Jew know of Holocaust victims who wanted to escape Hitler and come to America …

AND WHO WERE TURNED AWAY!

A Twitter Tribute to Holocaust Victims

A new social-media project commemorates refugees turned away by the United States in 1939.

the  St. Louis Manifest , a Twitter project sharing the story of some 900 Jews who fled Nazi Germany in 1939 on the MS   St. Louis,   which planned to stop in Cuba and then continue on in an attempt to gain entry into the United States. Unable to enter due to strict immigration quotas, the passengers were forced to return to Europe, where a number of countries accepted them as refugees;  254 of them were killed  in the Holocaust.

DACA in part, is comprised of individuals whose parents came, albeit illegally, to America as REFUGEES!

The Trump xenophobe/bigot wing fails willingly, or, out of ignorance, to understand that a parent making a choice to "break a law to save the life of his/her" innocent, defenseless child," is a no-brainer!

And only a "no-brain," Trumpian doesn't want to grasp the reality of tragedies that generate such a dilemma.

Trump, IMO, needs to consider making a deal, a la Nixon, to resign before a possible Democrat takeover of the Congress results, not in his impeachment and dismissal … but in his indictment, conviction and imprisonment!

40 members of the Nixon-Watergate Gang … WENT TO PRISON!

The United States and FDR should be very ashamed of themselves for turning these refugees away.

The only thing worse than turning away a ship full of refugees is doing so after your country caused the war or humanitarian crisis responsible for those refugees.   That's what's going on today and Trump wants to block all the refugees from the countries adversely impacted by US actions.

It reminds me of what went on during the Reagan era and his dirty wars in Central America, where he prohibited refugees from the countries whose wars he funded and directed.

I thought at first you were blaming the US for the war in Europe. Never mind. TG needs covefefe

So I understand we have troops in Syria fighting both ISIS and Assad, even tho Assad is fighting ISIS, also. Isn't this rather, what's the word?, DUMB?

In fairness Obama faced the same dilemma as Trump but I do think the policies of Russia and Iran are more correct than the US on this issue.

My problem with it is that the US rarely if ever takes responsibility for the problems it directly causes.    The US and the UK (and Bush's "Coalition of the Willing") should be taking in all the civilian refugees caused by the fallout from our invasions of Iraq and Afghanistan.   Perhaps if that obligation were part of the UN charter we'd be less likely to wage unjust wars or to fund such wars?

And the US will simply ignore that part of the charter

I am a bit surprised that Mr. Millers shall we say zaniness, does not get the coverage it deserves. By my estimation he is the worse one left in Mr. Trumps merry little band.

I do not think the lad is quite right in the head myself.

Miller has always reminded me of a Nazi or Gestapo functionary from one of those old 1930's or 40's  spy movies.

Finally one postive story about Judaism and Jews. Just about everything I have read on NT regarding either Jewish People or Israel has in one way or another demonized either other peoples of other nations especially the Palestinians and the Palestinian Authority though the US, Canada and even the UN been dissed in the mix, too. That kind of stuff is ultimately harmeful to Judaism in the long run...

The only thing that surprised me is that the ADL didn't sign the letter, although I suspect their opinion of Miller is that he belongs on a watch list not in the WH.

I think it's a big mistake to have a guy like Miller around. Clearly, he is a small man, and should not be given any credence on any topic. There's no room for a hater like this anywhere in society.

That said, I think he's being marginalized to a greater extent than the article is giving him credit for. The current proposal for DACA includes citizenship for 1.5 million DREAMers.

It's hard to know what effect any staffer in this WH really has, but the previous reporting I've seen is that Miller was the one who scuttled the agreement the Dems & GOP leaders thought they had with Trump on DACA and other immigration issues.   He's also the one who supposedly encouraged Trump to suspend the program for no apparent reason, before the WH even had devised a legal basis for that suspension.    That's why they keep losing in court.
