We're the Windy City Irish-where the craic is always best
Where every day is Paddy's Day and everyone's a guest
If you're Irish on the North Side or Irish on the West
Welcome to the South Side come join our Irish Fest!
(Chorus) We're the South Side Irish as our fathers were before
We come from the Windy City and we're Irish to the core
From Bridgeport to Beverly from Midway to South Shore
We're the South Side Irish-Let's sing it out once more!
Our parents came from Mayo , from Cork and Donegal .
We come from Sabina, St. Kilian's and St. Gall
St. Leo, Visitation, Little Flower and the rest.
The South Side parishes are mighty-they're the best!
Chorus
We live on the South Side-Mayor Daley lived here too
The Greatest Irish Leader that Chicago ever knew
he was always proud of his South Side Irish roots!
So here's to his honor to his memory we'll be true.
Chorus
We sing the songs our fathers sang when they were growing up
Rebel songs of Erin's Isle in South Side Irish Pubs
and when it comes to baseball-we have two favorite clubs
The Go-Go White Sox ... and whoever plays the Cubs !
After the parade people have parties and gatherings in their back yards
The article says every year but fact checking is showing that to be fake news.
The parade had a two-year hiatus earlier this decade after rowdy crowds and heavy drinking put a damper on the family event
About 15 years ago one of my nephews was arrested for getting into a brawl outside a pub along the parade route. A couple years later he was a Chicago cop himself. He now is a fireman with 5 kids.
It is the circle of life Dean.
You are Irish, right ? I assume you know how it goes.
The parade has always been largely peaceful and a beloved family event though.
I’m happy for them and it looks like a great event.
We get few that go overboard with the alcohol around here too this time of the year.
If you have seen the movie Backdraft, the place where the firemen live and hangout is similar to this neighborhood. A lot of firemen and cops live around here.
No but I did see the green river years ago and that was fun.
I attended a few of these as a kid before my parents moved. They were always alot of fun, the kids always got to run around unsupervised as the adults concentrated on drinking and talking.
But I also remember the weather was always cold and windy and usually damp.
