This is an interesting take on 'off the beaten path' sights and sites in every state. Not sure I'm ready to add all to my bucket list, but soem of these? Definitely.
I have been to Luray Caverns-if you're out that way (in Virginia) it is a must see.
There's a great cavern system in Central New York, discovered by a farmer......on really hot days, all his cows gathered in one area on a hillside, upon investigation, he found a hole with cold air coming out of it......there's actually older history on the site, but the cow story was the one they told last time I went there.
Indeed! I have been to the Luray Caves when lived in No Virginia. Luray was not that far from Warrenton, and made for a nice days adventure. I have also been to Carlsbad Caverns in NM. Both are truly amazing. When traveling with my Parents when I was young, we went to Sitting Bulls cave not far from Mt Rushmore. It really is an interesting place to see.
When I visited Atlanta many years ago, I went to the "Underground" and it was really amazing. When I visited again a few years ago, it had changed so much that it really didn't look like the same place. I was kind of disappointed.
I've been to the caverns-I think there's another near Luray....Skyline? As a teenager, I actuallt went spelunking in Eastern New York in some non-tourist caves-was pretty cool.
Some really interesting places. Have your own favorite, off the beaten track? Please feel free to post it with information about it.
All of the many Virginia caves are good, Luray Caverns is the best. Natural Bridge and Natural Tunnel are worth seeing
