Christian Right Activist: You Shouldn’t Touch Yourself Because It’s Totally Gay
Christian Right activist Dave Daubenmire said on his “Pass the Salt Live” webcast yesterday that masturbation was wrong in part because it was a form of homosexuality.
You’re touching yourself, therefore you’re touching someone of the same sex, therefore it’s totally gay. #ChristianLogic
“… masturbation is homosexuality. You’re having sex with a man. You get it? You put images of a woman in your mind, but you’re having sex with a man. It’s… where the Devil will take us if we give them free rein in our minds.”
It’s so tempting to write off Daubenmire as some fringe Christian with wacky views, but he’s not alone in this claim. Pastor Mark Driscoll said the same thing several years ago in an e-book he wrote to warn people against watching X-rated content online.
“… Masturbation can be a form of homosexuality because it is a sexual act that does not involve a woman. If a man were to masturbate while engaged in other forms of sexual intimacy with his wife then he would not be doing so in a homosexual way. However, any man who does so without his wife in the room is bordering on homosexuality activity, particularly if he’s watching himself in a mirror and being turned on by his own male body.”
I… I didn’t know people did that. But now I know way too much about Mark Driscoll’s private life.
I appreciate the YouTube commenter who made a simple suggestion to Daubenmire to prevent this problem: He could just buy a fleshlight.
