An Alabama teen laughed Thursday as a judge sentenced him to 65 years in prison for murder and theft after he rejected a plea deal that would have given him 25 years behind bars.
Lakeith Smith, 18, of Montgomery, Ala., was sentenced to 65 years by Judge Sibley Reynolds for “felony murder, armed burglary, second-degree theft and third-degree theft,” FOX8 LIVE reported.
Smith smiled and laughed while being sentenced at the Elmore County courthouse. He had turned down a plea deal that would have recommended he spend 25 years in prison on the charges.

How stupid was this boy to turn down 25 years? He thought he would play smart ass which is one of the reasons for his felonious behavior. The judge took him to task....good for him. And, then, the stupid kid laughs.

When I looked at the link, the kid was found guilty of murder under an accomplice law which makes him liable for the death of a guy (his buddy?) actually killed by the cop. I’m not sure whether the kid was was laughing or simply thinking “damn this is messed up . . . the cop kills my buddy (or whoever it was) but the cop goes free and I go to prison for murder.” In the kid’s mind, he may have found it hard to understand why he’s on trial for murder at all. To a kid, 25 years and 65 years behind bars may be the same thing because he’ll be way past 30 when he gets out and damn near dead (30 is old to teenagers).

I see the link mentions the other 3 involved plead guilty and are awaiting sentencing , bet they get the 25 deal and the charges are served concurrent , this guys attitude , got him 65 years to be served consecutively, he MIGHT get out when he hits his 60s, the others will be out in their 50s.
