A mom on a college tour called the cops on two Native American teens because they made her 'nervous'
For the two Native American brothers, Colorado State University was their dream school.
But when they showed up for a campus tour, a parent of another prospective student called the police on them because they apparently made her "nervous," the school said.
Critics are holding up the incident as just the latest example of racial profiling. In the past few days, two African American men were arrested for sitting in a Philadelphia Starbucks ; a group of African American women had the cops called on them at a golf course for playing too slow; and a gym was forced to apologize after a member felt he was racially profiled and asked to leave .
"This incident is sad and frustrating from nearly every angle, particularly the experience of two students who were here to see if this was a good fit for them as an institution," school officials said.
"This was their dream school, and I wanted to give them that opportunity," the mother, Lorraine Kahneratokwas Gray, said.
By the time they showed up, the tour had already begun.
"A parent participating in the tour called campus police because she was nervous about the presence of two young men who joined the tour while it was in progress," the school said.
Officers responded and pulled the young men aside while the tour continued on ahead without them.
When the police confirmed the brothers were part of the tour, they let them rejoin the group. But by that time, the tour had moved on, the school said.

"It breaks my heart, because they didn't do anything to warrant that," Gray told the affiliate. "They're walking on their own ancestors' land, so it breaks my heart."
Lemme see - Colorado - check; Native American - check; discrimination/racism - check.
It'll never end for some people.
Great video Larry. Glad they showed the interest in the archaeology of that area. Wish he would have included some of the history from the other side - the Chivington's and the town's peoples hatred of the tribes.
Thanks Larry.
My daughters had a similar thing happen to them when they were at Hopkins ( but not as bad as calling the cops.. just insulting).
They were at a introduction meet and greet, and a group of kids approached them and said "What are you?" My girls didn't know what they meant so they responded "Freshmen". The one of them said... "No we mean what race are you.. you can't be white?'...
Well there is a life experience.
...Jeesh...
"No we mean what race are you?"
I would have responded with....human race.
Or "Martian".
They were freaked out. No one had ever asked them that before. As it turned out, that would be the only time they would be caught off guard. Their standard answer became, "Why? "What's it TO ya?"
Very few went any further. If they did, the next reply was, "Are you normally this rude?"
It never went any further.
On and on, decade after decade. It never changes.
Maybe they should just put us all back in ''Indian Boarding Schools''.
That mom is a fucking idiot.
We are where we are in America today, in part, because of those individuals who genuflect to demagogues to whom those demagogues represent a "Jess Willard."
For many who decried for years, "liars" in high office, they look the other way on every lie … verified lies at that … told by the "validator" of their hatreds and ignorance.
Many of the lies foment fear, bigotry, ethnocentrism … and encourage the kind of reactions as described … and worse … AGGRESSIVE PROACTIVE VERBAL AND PHYSICAL ASSAULTS AND ASSORTED RELATED VANDALISM.
Hey, Jess … NATIVE AMERICANS AREN'T "IMMIGRANTS." the rest of us are!
Trump's comments about immigrants
Donald Trump kicked off his 2016 presidential bid by disparaging Mexican immigrants .
“They are not our friend, believe me,” he said. “They’re bringing drugs. They’re bringing crime. They’re rapists. And some, I assume, are good people.”
In addition to immigrants, the president has also faced criticism for “racist” comments about people from other countries regardless of their immigration status.
“If you look at his wife, she was standing there. She had nothing to say. She probably, maybe she wasn’t allowed to have anything to say. You tell me,” Trump said in an interview with ABC News in July.
For many who decried for years, "liars" in high office, they look the other way on every lie … verified lies at that … told by the "validator" of their hatreds and ignorance.
Too true.
Perhaps the woman wouldn't be so nervous if the Indian children were put in the tiny handcuffs used at Haskell Indian School to make the Indian children conform.
The motto of the boarding schools was, ''Kill the Indian, and save the man''...
Boarding schools were in existence from the late 1800's through the 1980's...Most run by Christian religious groups backed by the U.S. government.
Oh wouldn't Jesus just be so proud!

It probably wouldn't matter to the mother or, anyone who thinks like her but, I thought this was really great when I saw it today and, it should make people like this mother think. It probably wouldn't though.
Wow!
That young man is a hero!
Yes but, he would have made that mother "nervous" had she seen him riding his bike down her street.
It's sad but if you give the mother the benefit of the doubt you can see that her noticing two young men joining the tour after it started might have scared her. After all the school shootings it's no surprise that people are super paranoid.
This is simply projecting your own fear into her reason for doing it. I don't see it happening because, I have been on both ends here, I've joined a tour after it started and, I've seen others join tours after they've started and, in none of those instances did anyone get "nervous" over it. One I'm white and, an older gentleman, two, I could care less if you join the tour late, I understand that some people run behind on things, which is obviously what happened here, she was just "nervous" because the two young men weren't the same shade of white as her.
It is a tale
Told by an idiot, full of sound and fury
Signifying nothing.
