Chipotle has a lengthy history with food poisonings that date all the way back to 2008. Nearly a decade since that first incident, the company’s most recent outbreak is the worst to ever hit the fresh burrito chain.
Since July 26, over 700 cases of reported illnesses have been linked to a single Chipotle location, according to the Dayton Daily News. The store, located in Powell, OH, was closed immediately upon reports of a potential outbreak. They then enabled the chain’s food safety protocol before reopening, which included changing out the food and deep cleaning the entire place.
It’s still unknown what bacteria or pathogen caused the outbreak, and the source of it hasn’t been determined either. What we do know, though, is that no other outbreak connected to Chipotle has poisoned as many customers in a single instant.
The only other food poisoning outburst that came close, was all the way back in 2008, when over 400 customers contracted a strain of norovirus at a location near Kent State University. Coincidentally, that event also took place at a Chipotle restaurant in Ohio, although there’s likely no connection between the two given the time and changes the chain has implemented since then.
Still, an outbreak as massive as the one going on right now does call Chipotle’s new food safety protocol into question. To be fair, this is only the second massive food poisoning to occur since the new changes to their program came in late 2016. Still, more than 700 people getting sick from one single location is quite alarming.
Local health officials are still trying to determine the cause and source of the outbreak, but so far, common candidates like norovirus, Salmonella, and E. Coli have already been ruled out.
Well, I've never eaten at Chipotle's and I'm thinking that record will continue to stand.......one of the guys at work eats there all the time....not sure if he likes it or is trolling for grounds for a lawsuit.....
I ate at one once and that was enough. Not really the kind of food I like.

Chipotle is actually one of the healthiest places to eat in terms of recipe.
I hope they dramatically improve their quality controls - it would be a shame to lose this chain due to avoidable problems - and the next problem could be even more serious to patron health.
That's probably why I don't care for it. LOL!
LOL.....I was on another site and someone said that Mighty Taco ( a local Sorta-mexi food chain locally) sucked, they would just stick with Taco Bell........I mean, what is this world coming to? Taco Bell? Good Sorta-mexi? Puhleease.
There's not a lot of Mexican restaurants I really like. I like Chuy's because it's more Southwest and Tex-Mex. I'm looking forward to a Taco Bueno opening up down the street from where I work. It's better than Taco Bell.
I do, however, like all the Mexican restaurants my father-in-law takes us to when we go to Denver
They opened a 'Collossal Taco' near work. Haven't been there yet....letting them work out the kinks of a new place first.
There's a couple Mex places each about 10 miles from my house-one east, one west, that are really good-but it's not 'fast food'.
If there is a King Taco in your area, I highly recommend their authentic tacos.

I am still recovering from food poisoning from two months ago so my heart goes out to those who got ill. I have never eaten at a Chipotle and now I never will or any restaurant that has any history of food poisoning.
Do you know what it was that caused it (the bacteria/virus)?
You stated in another comment that it messed you up pretty badly.
Two Dodger Dogs did me in. It is still messing me up two months later.
