This Pilot Ordered Pizza for 159 People After Storm Left Passengers Stranded

Passengers on American Airlines Flight 2354 from Los Angeles to Dallas-Fort Worth on Thursday were facing a classic traveling problem that most frequent flyers have encountered in their lives: extreme delays.

The flight was so delayed, thanks to severe thunderstorms, the plane was diverted to Wichita Falls Municipal Airport in Wichita Falls, Texas to wait out the storm, according to CNN . Sadly, the 159 frustrated passengers realized they were likely stuck until morning.

The plane’s pilot, Jeff Raines, knew what he had to do. In order to ensure everyone’s comfort and happiness, he called and ordered 40 pizzas to be delivered to the airport. Even overnight plane delays are better with two slices of hot pizza.

Workers at the Wichita airport caught a video of the pilot running out to meet the delivery driver and posted it on Twitter.

According to CNN, Captain Raines said on Facebook that he can’t take all the credit.

“My First Officer was on the telephone with crew tracking / hotel desk arranging for our release and hotels for the entire crew. The Flight Attendants manned a galley cart from the aircraft serving waters, juice, and sodas to all the passengers in the terminal. All while the Envoy SPS Personnel were arranging for a bus, re-booking flights, and answering a flurry of questions from these passengers. Thanks to everyone for your help - there is no "I" in TEAM.”

Airline spokesman Tom Henderson said to CNN, “We are always proud of our crew members who take great care of our customers who fly on American Airlines and are fortunate that they are the best in the business.”

After their impromptu pizza party, the passengers were able to reboard Friday morning and continue on their journey to Dallas.

Not really important news, but I thought what the pilot did was pretty cool

In a time when airlines are reguarly criticized (deserved or not), this is a nice story and a wonderful gesture by the pilot and his crew.
