The primary elections....
“This is because of every single one of you who were courageous, who saw a vision as well, who knew that we could not tolerate Democrats who would be empowering Republicans, that that was intolerable,” she said. “And we have now cut the head off the IDC snake.”

Challenger Alessandra Biaggi declared victory over longtime state Sen. Jeff Klein in a Democratic Party primary Thursday for a district that covers parts of the Bronx and Westchester County.

Klein, 58, is one of the most influential lawmakers in recent Albany history but faced a backlash for his role as leader of the Independent Democratic Conference, a now-defunct group of Democrats who’d broken with the caucus for several years. Democrats haven’t controlled the Senate since 2010.

Democratic voters got payback in the New York state primary on Thursday against some of the renegade Democrats who broke away from their party and allied themselves with Republicans in New York’s state senate.

Six of the eight members of the now-disbanded Independent Democratic Conference (IDC) have lost against more progressive challengers. That includes the powerful leader of the group, Sen. Jeff Klein (D-Bronx), who was unseated by challenger Alessandra Biaggi , a lawyer who worked on Hillary Clinton’s campaign.

New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo may have easily escaped his primary challenge, but the ousting of IDC members may be a sign that power structures are shifting in Albany.

The IDC disbanded in April , but it was one of the weirder institutions in the already strange world of New York politics: eight state senators, elected as Democrats, that broke off to caucus together and team up with Republicans.

Letitia James, New York City’s public advocate, won the Democratic primary for New York State attorney general, and could become the first African-American woman to hold statewide office in New York.

James defeated US Rep. Sean Maloney, attorney Zephyr Teachout, and Leecia Eve, a Verizon executive with past government experience.

James won the backing of the state Democratic Party and Gov. Andrew Cuomo’s endorsement , which gave her a boost of name recognition and clout outside of New York City, where she’s served as the public advocate since 2014 and previously served as a City Council member.

The latest win for the insurgent progressive movement within the Democratic Party is in a New York State Senate district: Julia Salazar , the 27-year-old Jewish democratic socialist whose campaign drew national attention, won her primary Thursday to be the Democratic candidate on the ballot in November. Salazar defeated Democratic state Sen. Martin Dilan, who was running for his ninth term in the 18th District.

It’s rare for a state Senate race, even one in a section of Brooklyn home to many reporters, to get much notice. But Salazar’s campaign was unusual, featuring national media attention, comparisons to Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, and a high degree of scrutiny of her background — her brother publicly said that she was lying about her past, claiming to be from a working-class family when her mother made a middle-class salary and claiming to be an immigrant when she and her mother were both born in the US. A piece in Tablet, an online Jewish publication, also raised questions about her Judaism, calling her Jewish identity “largely self-created.”

These were all across the political spectrum... but there seems to be some unifying factor. I wonder what it is?

I hope that all NT Mods will enforce the CoC, including 4. Stay on topic per the article , but after yesterday's rejections of the flags I set, I won't bet on it.
