I put this under the sociology category because I couldn't find a category for law .
Please watch the above video to understand the legal quagmire that was created by the simplistic laws on child pornography . I couldn't embed the video but it is a reliable website so don't be afraid of visiting it .
My summary of the video :
A teenage boy was online video chatting with a woman . She encouraged him to masturbate while he watched her . Afterwards she claimed she had recorded his actions . Then she threatened to publish that recording online unless he paid some money . Apparently this kind of thing is becoming more commonplace and has even gotten a name : sextortion . What is tragic is that the police are now considering arresting the 15 yr-old boy for child pornography !
FYI , I am certainly not in favor of child pornography but the simplistic nature of the laws on this topic are dangerous to many who don't deserve the harsh penalties it imposes .

There are a number of odd things about this case . For one thing if the material was not actually published online [ not just on a one to one private chat ] it should not be called child pornography IMO . I expect it could be considered contributing to the delinquency of a minor by the adult woman but the cops do not know who she is & finding her will be a technically daunting task since she deleted her accounts on skype .
I expect amending the child pornography law to exclude masturbation would be a rational change to make . Your thoughts ?
I think I'll go rent the movie Porky's . Watching it online might be considered a violation of the laws on child pornography ... because that's how stupid this law is .
The kid being charged, makes little or no sense. The women should be charged IMO.
There seems to be a large gap in this law. I would think that it could be child porno, since the women encouraged a minor to perform a sex act. She is the one that should be charged (if ever found) not the kid.
what about the old geezer that cons a teenage girl to flash her boobs or do a striptease? Going to send her off to jail also?
the law, and in many cases the sheer prudeness of some prosecutors needs to catch up to technology pretty quickly otherwise we will have a real dearth of juvenile hall beds.

The woman would certainly be charged IF they can locate her but that would take a lot of technical internet expertise . Is it worth the taxpayers money to find her ?

Indeed . That's why I published this . There are several factors to consider . And I think many of the problems can be avoided by legalizing media content about solo masturbation no matter what the age of the person . What do you think of that ?
But then there is the problem of proving she knew the kid was underage ...
I agree in theory . The problem comes about when someone hijacks [no pun intended ] the content & distributes it far & wide .

Prosecutors seem to prefer things that way . It provides them with job security .
