Man cleaning gun fatally shoots best friend in apparent accident
A man playing a video game inside a mobile home in the Oklahoma City suburb of Midwest City on Sunday was fatally shot, apparently accidentally, by his best friend who was cleaning a gun, police said.
Joshua Allen, 21, died from a single shot to the chest Sunday afternoon at Village Oaks Trailer Park, Midwest City Police Chief Brandon Clabes said.
According to police, a 911 caller said: "I need an ambulance fast, my brother was messing with a gun and it accidentally went off and struck his best friend."
Several witnesses said that Allen was shot when a handgun apparently discharged accidentally while a man who lived inside the home was "cleaning/clearing" it, the police chief said in a statement. The identity of the shooter has not been disclosed.
"This is still an active case but at this time, all evidence indicates the shooting was not intentional — an unfortunate, tragic event while mishandling a loaded firearm," Clabes said.
A report will be sent to the Oklahoma County district attorney to determine whether criminal charges will be filed, Clabes said.
4 steps to clearing a pistol:
- remove magazine
- jack chambered round out
- point pistol in safe direction
- pull trigger
Not rocket science
Lol if the above 4 step process is too difficult try this 2 step process
- point gun at own head
- pull trigger
I would hope this moron gets charged with something, but I doubt it.
The stupidity of humans can never be underestimated.
Lol nope
Nobody who is cleaning a weapon accidentally fires it. Someone who is goofing around with a weapon accidentally fires it.
I know a firearms instructor who shot himself in the foot while cleaning his 45. He still wonders why he can't get any students now.
I actually almost shot myself in the foot when I was 16. But I wasn't cleaning anything. I was goofing around. I thank God that the bullet missed by foot by about 3 inches. I might not have a foot now. It was a .357 (although I think might it have been loaded with .38 special). Still - it would have been very bad.
I'm glad you were okay. I shoot myself in the foot all of the time here, metaphorically speaking that is.
Never seen anyone shoot themselves while cleaning a weapon, but I have seen people shoot off one or more rounds while clearing their weapon. My favorite was the TF Commander in Afghanistan escorting some high political muckity muck on a helicopter tour cracking off a 5.56 because he forgot step 1, that cost him $5000.00
First things I learned about guns:
1. Always treat every gun as though it is loaded until you have checked it yourself.
2. Always expect the unexpected around guns.
3. Never point a weapon at another person unless you have the intention of using it.
All excellent points
