Donald Trump Cashed a 13 Cent Check
In 1989, Spy Magazine, as a prank on some of the richest and most famous people, sent a cheque to 13 unwitting famous figures for a measly 13 cents.
Only two recipients actually cashed the cheques; Donald Trump and an international arms dealer called Adnan Khashoggi.
For the stunt, Spy Magazine created an incorporated company named the National Refund Clearinghouse. Initially, they sent out cheques for $1.11 U.S. dollars to 58 "well-known, well-heeled Americans." Twenty-six of whom cashed it, including Khashoggi, Trump, Cher, and Michael Douglas among others. The list of those who did not included Woody Allen and Dustin Hoffman.
Next, they then sent out 64-cent cheques to those twenty-six people. Thirteen of those cashed the cheques. Again, this included Trump and Khashoggi.
Finally, those thirteen people received cheques for 13-cents. Of those thirteen, only 2 cashed them; Trump and Khashoggi.

The writer Kurt Andersen was on Rick Wilson's podcast yesterday, and told this story.
I highly recommend people cut out one hour of MSNBC or CNN or Fox a couple times a week and listen to this show. It is outstanding.
Normally only listen to BBC or NPR on the $3,000 Alpine sound system in my truck.
uh................ok
Don't ever listen to radio inside the house.
That increased the fake billionaire's net worth considerably...
Man, maybe we can impeach Trump for cashing a legal check some 30+ years ago!
Best get on the phone with Nancy and Adam!
I wonder if he stole silverware from restaurants.
Maybe, who knows?
Besides you, who gives a fuck?
What other inane things do you wonder about?
Call Nancy and Adam!!
Huh? Why would anyone impeach him for being that truly pathetic?
We cash all our checks too as a courtesy to everyone involved in accounting, accounts payable and accounts receivable.
Oh so he did it to be polite ! So that explains Trump's diseased personality - he's too damn polite .
Cashing a check doesn't give anyone any fucking insight into a person's personality.
That is hogwash and rather silly.
To be fair, while Trump is a monumental scum bag and likely one of the worst human beings on the planet, I doubt he ever saw the check. It was likely automatically deposited by one of his assistants. He likely opened and read his own mail as often as he opens and reads his PDB, which is virtually never. I know he has at least a rudimentary ability to read as I've seen him read poorly from a teleprompter often getting words wrong if they have more than three syllables, but I seriously doubt he reads documents with any actual understanding. His literacy is likely "porn magazine caption" level. "Oh look, it says she likes long walks on the beach, I own a beach house, I'll bet she'd let me grab her by the short and curleys…".
Donald Trump cashed a .13 cent check.
The magazine made the offer to 12 other people, 11 of them did not cash it.
And??
Should a person not cash a check they are given?
That is factually incorrect, if we are to believe your source.
From your source:
Now, I may not be well-versed in the new math, my old math skills tell me that 12 is not 13 and 1 is not 2.
Maybe your math differs.
I'm not sure what YOUR problem is, but I am not wrong. The final set of checks were mailed to 13 people, including Trump and Khashoggi. The other 11 did not cash them but Trump and Khashoggi did. That is what I said in the first place. Not sure what you thought you were reading.
Simple questions.
Should people cash checks made out to the or not?
Why does this matter so much to you---a fucking 13 cent check 30 fucking years ago????
You are right about that number, I read it wrong.
Now, why is a 13 cent check 30 years later important?
Fun fact.
So not important and certainly not any "window" into anyone's personality.
Fun facts to know, too!
This kinda goes along the line of "Oh my God, Trump had 2 scoops of ice cream and everybody else had one".
John, didn't you seed that one too?
13 cents isn't even remotely worth my time and I am not a "billionaire:.
Seems like the last round should have been $0.25 to make it an even 2 bucks. This story brings back some fun memories. I know, and have known, some of the wealthiest people in the state. They live differently, spend their money differently, but they all have one thing in common...they won't walk past a quarter on the sidewalk. It has always struck me as odd that people would look on the behavior mockingly, and at the same time look at the wealthy people with discontent.
Do you know why a jerk would have cashed the check?
In 1989 it would have cost the banking system about 60 cents to process the 13 cent check.
