U.S. Representative Ilhan Omar held off a well-funded challenger Tuesday and won the Democratic primary in her congressional district, putting her on track for re-election in November along with other members of the "Squad" of four liberal freshmen.

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - U.S. Representative Ilhan Omar held off a well-funded challenger Tuesday and won the Democratic primary in her congressional district, putting her on track for re-election in November along with other members of the "Squad" of four liberal freshmen.
Omar defeated attorney Antone Melton-Meaux, who had accused her of prioritizing her celebrity over her constituents, and several other challengers, the New York Times said.
One of the first two Muslim women to be elected to Congress in 2018, Omar won 57.2% of the vote Tuesday compared with 39.4% for Melton-Meaux in Minnesota's 5th district, the Times said. She is likely to win again in November in the solidly Democratic district.
"In Minnesota, we know that organized people will always beat organized money," Omar, 37, said in a statement. "Despite outside efforts to defeat us, we once again broke turnout records."
Progressive Democrats have generally done well this primary cycle. With Omar's victory, all four members of the liberal group of congresswomen nicknamed the "Squad" are expected to be re-elected in the autumn.
The best-known "Squad" member, Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez of New York, dispatched a primary challenger in June. Last week Representative Rashida Tlaib won her primary, and the fourth Squad member, Representative Ayanna Pressley, is running unopposed in her primary in Massachusetts next month.

Ilhan Omar was not elected to represent everyone but the people she represents are very happy with her. The same is true of AOC. 2020 is turning out to be a great year for progressive women in politics...

The ugly unfair untruthful ways in which Omar, AOC and other progressive women in Congress have been attacked by the far rightwingers has only made them more popular thus more powerful...
They have nothing else.
Right-wingers have no propositions, no projects, no... ideas. All they have is attack-attack-attack. And of course... being unrepentant racists, their most vicious attacks are on persons of color.
The nation is changing for the better and you can tell by how frothy at the mouth those rabid scared to death of change, diversity and progress conservatives get when confronted by such change. Many have lived their whole lives believing only white male Christians were qualified for elected positions and leadership roles and when they see non-Christian women of color in the drivers seat they can't help but freak out and express their deep seated xenophobia.
You could say rightwingers being so offended there is even one Muslim in the whole of the US Congress is pretty darned Xenophobic!
I've been called alot of things in my life, but scared of a Muslim has never been one of them.
