World's Saddest Trump Rally Draws Lone Protester: 'Kind Of By Myself Out Here'

State officials beefed up security at capitols around the nation for Inauguration Day, bracing for the possibility of violent protests after the deadly insurrection in Washington D.C. by supporters of former President Donald Trump earlier this month.

But for the most part, the demonstrations that occurred while President Joe Biden took the oath of office were low-key affairs, including a few where just a single Trump supporter showed up, as was the case outside the New York State Capitol in Albany.

"I wanted to be part of the Patriot Party, join supporters of Trump, y'know?" Mark Leggiero told NBC News. "I find myself kind of by myself out here."

"I was hoping that we'd have more supporters out here," he told NBC.

Leggiero was alone in Albany, but he wasn't alone in spirit. Tiny Trump rallies - some as small as a single person - broke out around the nation, including this guy at the California State Capitol in Sacramento:

A pro-Trump protest by the Nevada state Capitol in Carson City drew twice as many demonstrators:

There was also a tiny demonstration at the Washington State Capitol in Olympia:

Elie Mystal of The Nation compiled some other examples into a Twitter thread, including these:

On the face of it this seems rather curious - where did all the MAGA extremists go?

There was fear that Inauguration Day would bring mass pro-Trump protests and possibly violence, but nothing happened. Why?

My guess is that a couple things combined to make pro-Trump rallies at state capitols unappealing. One would be the preventive fencing and other obstacles to entering the governmental buildings.  It's true that a large mob could scale these fences and approach the building for entry, but what were the chances ever going to be that there would be a really large mob in Albany New York ?  A second deterrence would be the chance of being arrested . In order to truly make a statement on behalf of Trump, a protester would have to do something dramatic like storm a building and attack cops. However, this would likely lead to arrest and incarceration, or even your own injury or death. I think some of these people began to ask themselves if they really wanted to die or go to jail for Donald Trump.

Hundreds of people have been arrested from the Capitol Building assault, and some of them face serious felony charges. I think some of the local "protesters" looked at that as a possible outcome for themselves in their own state capitols and said "never mind".

I think to a large extent that their numbers, relevance, and influence are figments of the left's over active imaginations
