Pelosi says GOP wants people 'in cars, on the road, using gas,' Dems want more mass transit
Pelosi says Democrats are committed to passing Biden's American Jobs Plan regardless of the outcome of the bipartisan negotiations on infrastructure

S E E D E D   C O N T E N T

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi said on Thursday that Republicans in Congress want people "in cars, on the road, using gas," while the Democrats want more mass transit, high-speed rail and electrification.

"In addition to being in the pocket of the fossil fuel industry, of the gun industry, they're in the pocket of the fossil fuel industry and that's one of the reasons it's hard for us to get as much as we want on high-speed rail and mass transit and the rest because they want people in cars, on the road, using gas," Pelosi said at a news conference on Capitol Hill.

Pelosi also said Democrats are committed to passing Biden's $2.25 trillion American Jobs Plan and $1.9 trillion American Families Plan regardless of the outcome of the bipartisan negotiations underway on infrastructure.

"We will have provisions for electrification, which some of the Republicans have not been enthusiastic about," she said. "We know one bill is not going to do it for us. We have to have a bill that's not just about addressing green but addressing women, people with disabilities who need care and the rest so their family members and they can fully participate in how we go forward."

Spoken like someone who has never used mass transit.

You see, Nancy, people who own cars are very unlikely to use mass transit. It is extremely slow, crowded at rush hour and plagued by those who should be locked away in insane asylums.  Many people who have no car/no choice and are forced to use public transportation reach the point where they don't feel like going anywhere. Get off your high horse Nancy and try it sometime.

She probably has it's called BART. You should look it up, when I lived in Bay Area I used BART on a regular basis and I had a car it was quicker and easier to use BART.

I'm glad to hear that it worked for you.

We once had a Governor named Dukakis who took our version, but it was all for show. You know how politicians are.

Did Joe Biden ride mass transit for years? Yes, he did.

And we would use the SP in the evenings from Palo Alto to SF to go to business dinners. Yup, a lot of people use mass transit.

That mass transit is great, as long as it comes from where you are and goes to where you're going.  Of course, if it doesn't work well for you, what should you do?  Ride your bicycle, drive your electric car, or just thumb a ride and hope you don't meet a Jeffery Dahmer type?

Of course, it is a point to point form of transit. If it doesn't work well for you do what you need to do. For me many times it was perfect.

Taking your auto subjects you to a chance to be involved in a road rage incident, probably more probable than meeting a Dahmer type on mass transit.

I used to have a car but now I use Mass Transit all of the time, it's cheaper by far across the board and I don't have to dig it out of the snow 6 months of the year.

I bet the Bayshore Freeway is as dangerous as it was as when I lived in  Burlingame.

Didn't ride the train much, as it didn't go where I wanted to go

I understand that the NYC transit system is a bastion of peacefulness at this time.  Granted the riders don't meet a Dahmer type, but people that like to see if someone pushed on the tracks can survive a train hit, or just general crime and mayhem is your idea of a nice trip, go for it.

I'll take my chances with a "road rage" incident over being trapped with a psychotic individual on a train or bus any day.  Besides, if you're not completely aware of your surroundings, especially when driving, and leaving yourself an out, you should never even leave your home.  You're a statistic waiting to happen.

The old Bayshore was very dangerous, basicly a 4 lane road. Now as being a more modern version 101, it's crowded but not nearly as dangerous.

My examples are from the WC, not NYC where I found mass transit to be fine.

If one doesn't like it, don't use it, simple as that.

We know you don't because it doesn't fit your bias narrative.

And many to most have no choice!

And many people do and they ride MT.

Large cities have to have mass transit. Prior to the pandemic there were about 250,000 trips on Metra commuter trains from the suburbs into the city of Chicago and vice versa every day to go to work or school . If all those people drove in the traffic jams on expressways would be unbearable.

And thats not even counting the CTA, which operates buses, subways and elevated trains within the city, and the RTA which operates buses in the suburbs.

In 2018 the CTA recorded 468 million trips on buses or subway/el trains.

And what large cities don't have mass transit of one type or another?

They believe service will start is 2022.   But like large projects anywhere, do you REALLY believe that?

Well, of course, Democrats want more mass transit, high-speed rail and electrification.  Democrats' base of support resides in big, blue islands where population density makes these things practical with national subsidies.  Democrats have plainly turned their backs on rural America and small towns.

And how exactly is an electric vehicle a bad thing if you live in the sticks?  I frequently drive to places that require me to drive by houses out in the middle of nowhere.  I always wonder who if the hell would want to live out here?  When it takes a quarter tank of gas just to get to the closest gas station, life sucks.  I imagine it would be a welcome change to get your fuel out of an electrical outlet and never have to visit a far away gas station again.

People that don't want to live close enough to hear their neighbors argue.   People that like their personal space and enjoy the quiet and tranquility.  People that have an appreciation for nature and don't believe they should need to go to a zoo to see anything other than rats or pigeons (rats with wings).

The reasons of where and why someone lives where they do is as varied as the numbers of people that live on the planet.  Fortunately, not everyone thinks and wants the same thing.

I see.  Not a word about the point of my comment.  I guess that part made too much sense to argue about.  Btw, I live in a densely populated area and experience none of the stuff your negative brain conjured up.
