Senate passes $3.5 trillion Democrat spending plan by single vote
Party-line vote comes just hours after approval of $1.2 trillion infrastructure bill as Democrats embark on historic spending spree. GOP warns of inflation.

S E E D E D   C O N T E N T

Democrats continued their historic spending spree early Wednesday, as the Senate voted 50-49 to approve a $3.5 trillion plan stocked with liberal priorities just hours after approving a mammoth infrastructure bill.

The party-line vote handed President Biden dual victories and catapulted Sen. Bernie Sanders, the socialist Democrat who for years was a back-bencher in budget politics, to the forefront of a leftist reshaping of America.

The bill will "restore the faith of the American people in the belief that we can have a government that works for all of us, and not just the few," he crowed.

But the vote was not without consequence with the 2022 elections on the horizon, Republicans will use a series of amendments to put vulnerable moderate Democrats on the defensive on issues like excessive spending, and the potential dangers to the economy from inflation, tax increases, and future interest rate hikes.

Democrats want to "outsource domestic policy to Chairman Sanders" with a "historically reckless taxing and spending spree," Senate GOP Leader Mitch McConnell, R-Ky., warned.

Sen. Mike Rounds of Idaho was the only Republican to miss the vote, as he spent time with his ailing wife. His absence was meaningless, because Democrats had Vice President Kamala Harris waiting in the wings to cast a tie-breaking vote if needed.

Democrats used the legislation to bolster programs they said would assist families, create jobs and fight climate change while imposing higher taxes on the wealthy and corporations.

House leaders announced the chamber will return from summer recess in two weeks to vote on the plan.

It's done.

Amazing what 50 votes can now do.

John Solomon, a thoroughly discredited "journalist", does not mention the words "budget resolution" in his story, which is a little odd since that is what the Senate voted on last night.

I suppose "no harm, no foul" might apply to your fake news story, but the fake that you seed intentionally inaccurate (by the author)  articles is not really a laughing matter.

Clearly the last sentence in the article refutes the headline, you would have landed on firmer ground by starting off your comments with it rather than your ubiquitous whack-a-mole approach.

So much for Manchin and Sinema's moderation.

I fear for our grandchildren's future but these politicians will all be fat and happy with their juicy pensions and ample healthcare plans

All this money will float to the top of the economy.  The money may pass through the hands of those at the bottom but the buck will stop at the top.  And Democrats know it.

Democrats may be buying votes but Democrats are favoring the rich with these spending bills.  The money won't go into lower class or middle class savings.  The money will be used for a consumption frenzy.  Those who sell make the profit at the expense of those who buy so Democrats spurring consumption will float all this money to the top.  That's how any economy (capitalist or socialist) works.  Consumption always makes the rich richer.

It's just another neo-liberal gimmick disguised as populist liberal social justice.  Cheaters have to cheat and those who game the system expect to be rewarded because they are entitled to profit.  It's no secret that dumping more money (created out of thin air) into the consumer economy allows more profit.  Guess who's entitled to that profit?  It ain't the consumers.

Money defies physics and flows uphill Nerm, there is nothing new here.

Democrats pushing these big spending packages know that, too.

Did you know that Federal, state, and local government revenue collected so far this year (from all sources) is about $48,000 per worker in the United States?  Did you know the median wage earner income in the United States is $35,590?  Half of workers in the United states have incomes 25 pct less than the governments' income.

Can someone explain why Democrats think they are being charitable?

Noticed consumer goods pricing and inflation lately?

It's already begun, started months ago.   Up, up and away .....   This will just accelerate costs for everyone even faster but politicians don't care.

They still get their graft from any deal they pass, their fat pensions and top notch health insurance

Which is still better that "trickle down", where all the money is funneled directly to the top.

So much for stopping the bill. Republicans rolled over and played dead. Hope they are proud of themselves. Never negotiate with a Democrat.

Fuck them! They never should have fucking worked with Democrats on the first infrastructure bill!

You understand that right? You comprehend that McConnell and the other Republicans that went along with Democrats on that bill are directly at fault? Biden and the House Democrats told them what would happen and they were too fucking stupid to listen!

As for the two Democrats the Republicans were hoping would block this monstrosity of a bill- their morals held out only as long as it took to pass the first infrastructure bill.

McConnell and the other Senate Republicans who went along with this deserve to lose their jobs! We need people with backbone and brains in their places to ensure Democrat BS bills like this never see light of day!

Mid terms cannot come quick enough now for a second reason. Hopefully Republicans can find people to primary these morons and win. Getting rid of the Democrats will always be the top priority; but now we have moronic Republicans to worry about.

This is what the seeded far right fake news source says

the Senate voted 50-49 to approve a $3.5 trillion plan stocked with liberal priorities just hours after approving a mammoth infrastructure bill.

This is what actually happened

The Senate passed a budget resolution early Wednesday that lays the groundwork for Democrats' massive $3.5 trillion spending package, capping a flurry of activity just hours after senators approved a separate $1 trillion infrastructure bill .   Senate passes $3.5 trillion budget resolution (msn.com)

I trust everyone sees the difference.

The fake news story implies the bill has been passed. The reality is the bill has not been voted on yet.

I certainly hope it passes as is but the likelihood is that the negotiations and changes continue.

This bill will be headed further down the Democrat pork trail.

Democrats still don't have Manchin on board for $3.5T in new spending.

Is he the lone Democrat fiscal conservative?

I think Manchin & maybe a few more will get them to cut it down a little, but the final bill won't look too much different.

Was it only a year ago that most of us thought the green new deal was so far fetched that it would never happen. That is the great flaw with Conservatives. They don't seem to think that all the crazy talk can happen. Only we can stop it.

Sinema is the only other Senator that seems to be making some noise about it.

Personally i think it's all just a smoke screen.    They'll both fold and vote party line.

Sorry, but after Bush 1, Bush 2, and Trump, conservatives can no longer be considered "fiscal".  They spend like drunk sailors on leave, but only on themselves.
