Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez Says Anti-Roe Trump Justices Should Be Impeached For 'Lying' | HuffPost Latest News
The progressive House member said conservative judges nominated by Donald Trump misrepresented their Roe v. Wade views during confirmation hearings.

Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez(D-N.Y) on Sunday said some conservative Supreme Court justices who struck down federal abortion protections last week should be impeached for "lying under oath" during their confirmation hearings.

Ocasio-Cortez said on "Meet the Press" that Donald Trump-nominated justices misled lawmakers on abortion rights. Those justices became crucial to the court's 6-3 conservative majority that "dramatically overreached its authority," she said.

"This is a crisis of legitimacy and President Biden must address that," Ocasio-Cortez said.

Asked by host Chuck Todd if the House Judiciary Committee should investigate, she replied: "If we allow Supreme Court nominees to lie under oath and secure lifetime appointments to the highest court of the land and then issue — without basis, if you read these opinions — rulings that deeply undermine the human civil rights of the majority of Americans, we must see that through."

"There must be consequences for such a deeply destabilizing action and the hostile takeover of our democratic institutions," she added.

Trump justices Neil Gorsuch, Brett Kavanaugh and Amy Coney Barrett joined Clarence Thomas and Samuel Alito in the majority to overturn Roe v. Wade, an abortion-rights precedent that stood for nearly 50 years. Chief Justice John Roberts concurred.

Some of those nominees emphasized respect for Supreme Court precedent in sworn testimony during their confirmation hearings.

Ocasio-Cortez focused on statements of Sens. Joe Manchin (D-W.Va.) and Susan Collins (R-Maine) that they were misled by some of the Trump justices.

Pressed by Todd as to whether lying in a confirmation hearing is an impeachable offense, Ocasio-Cortez replied: "I believe lying under oath is an impeachable offense."

"What makes it particularly dangerous is that it sends a blaring signal to all future nominees that they can now lie to duly elected members of the United States Senate in order to secure a Supreme Court confirmation," she said.

I don't think they will.  I mean, look at them.  They're still crying about somebody who is 2 years out of office.  They're rioting that the SCOTUS took a chunk out of their autocratic government.

They're not going to come around any time soon.

They will do a post mortem on the election and look at their policies for about 5 minutes.  Then they will fall back on their usual reasons for losing:

Racism

Bad messaging

Misogyny

Voter ignorance

Homophobia

This is what always happens to the party in power during midterm elections.

Lying Republicans

More Racism

Democrats have no problem making things miserable for themselves.

Midterms should add to that misery mightily.

A shame they can't impeach for sheer stupidity. AOC would be at the top of the list!

AOC and other Squad members are direct reflections of their voter base and vice versa, so them not doing anything is not surprising at all.

As soon as I saw "Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez" it wasn't a matter of IF she said something completely fucking stupid, it was WHAT did she say that was completely fucking stupid.

AOC's reaction shouldn't be very surprising.  The SCOTUS decision was a definite blow to autocratic central government.  AOC and her ilk cannot accomplish what they want without autocratic central government.  AOC certainly isn't arguing for democracy.

But we certainly cannot acknowledge the obvious.  That would put too many intellectuals and journalists out of work.

I find it hard to understand why the press hounds her to get her opinion on anything.  She is a junior congress person that has never accomplished anything outside of watering down drinks at her previous job.  It has to be the worst job assignment of all time for an actual news person (assuming there are any left) to get assigned to follow her..

What, you don't think the "media" likes going to expensive exclusive galas where AOC can make stupid statements like "tax the rich!" while wearing a one of a kind designer dress and shoes?

Besides according to AOC every Republican wants her sexually. I am sure hanging around has to be good for some laughs. With how stupid she is- she thinks "Fuck off!" is a request for sex.

“This is a crisis of legitimacy and President Biden must address that,” Ocasio-Cortez said.

AOC needs to have someone explain to her how impeachment works. Seems that impeaching Trump twice wasn't enough (Pelosi didn't follow any of the rules for impeachment in the House; so maybe AOC thinks it is just a bunch of close door meetings and then a predetermined up or down vote).

Is there an old Schoolhouse Rocks episode on impeachment? It may be phrased in a way even she might understand it.
