25 Days of Christmas -- Dec. 7, 8, & 9 -- by Marsha Meyer
I'm not going to write a whole lot, as I've put in a LOT of time to make the videos! But, the Dec. 7th video is in remembrance of Pearl Harbor, and God Bless all those who were there! This is sort of a jarring video, contrasting the peace at home versus the horrors of Pearl. I hope you enjoy this!
This is a version of Jingle Bells sung by Bing Crosby and the Andrews Sisters, in December, 1941.
Next up, a version of the US Air Force Band's Babes in Toyland. Suitably military, this version is not 1940s vintage, but is posted in tribute to those that played in the USAF band during WWII. You will, no doubt, note a couple of pictures of Glenn Miller, who led the USAF band during the war, and was killed when his plane went down in France.
Last but not least, this IS an original verson. Spike Lee was one of those band leaders that used whistles and bells, funny noisemakers and other little goodies to screw up a normally good song. However, the song may ring a bell for some of you, as it was still popular on the radio when I was a kid... Lately, that seems to be several eons ago!
Spike Lee -- All I Want for Christmas:
I'm truly sorry to be late with all this-- Tis the season to be busy! Matthew had a band concert tonight along with the Louisville Chamber Win Orchestra, which was lovely! But I could have done without the Chamber Wind Orchestra. I recognized nothing, and let's face it, of late, I'm sort of "up" on Christmas music. The arranger conducted. How I wished for Barry Tuckwell, who would have had the chutzpah to tell him he was an arrogant ass.
Yeah, it was probably good for the kids. Next week, we have their regular Christmas Concert. All this may be fabulous experience, but hard to fit into one's busy schedule, in addition to the Christmas Tree Lot, etc.
Much love to all of you!

Please feel free to post your own favorite WWII songs-- or other songs of all stripes!
Have a wonderful evening!
Ok, here is one of my favorite War Time Tunes, the band directed by the fabulous Glenn Miller, In The Mood:
This is another one of my very favorites, sung by the Andrews Sisters-- The Boogie Woogie Bugle Boy of Company B:
Dowser, dear lady. You are pretty busy it seems to me. Thanks for the music. I like Glenn Miller, and his music.
Glad things are getting Christmassy for you back there. Every year I pick out a tree for the holidays. Of course it is growing in the woods and it often involves a little walk to get to visit it.
May be a bit early but I want to wish you and your family a very Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays.
WOW !! I hadn't thought of these songs in years. My father used to sing thesesongs all of the time. Dear Dowser, I want to thank you for all of the work you have put into this "project" of Christmas music...what a great idea it is and tons of fun!! Thank You
Dear Don, I wish you a very merry Christmas, too!
We, (the band parents), are all exhausted-- all of us looked pale, worn out, and frazzled. As a group, we're ready to kill the band director for all these concerts.
I have yet to pry an idea out of my husband for what he wants for Christmas. I sincerely hope that he will like whatever I get him, unlike the year that I bought him a really nice car radio and he wanted a welder. Like I would EVER think of getting him a welder!
I love Glenn Miller, and always have! GREAT songs! Take care, dear Don-- thanks for coming by and I hope that you have a wonderful Christmas!
Dear Nona, I've had fun doing it-- it just takes a little more time... You are welcome!
Spike Jones, while having really "cute" songs, always seems to grate on me, for some reason. But then, our generation has barking dogs, so it seems that "cute" is an inter-generational thing...
Love you, dear Nona! Thanks so much for coming by!
I'm glad you are having fun doing this..and I love you too my dear friend...
I can certainly think of worse things to do-- like all the responsibilities resting on the women of the family! Laundry. Shopping. Planning the meal. Decorating. Etc. While decorating used to be fun, it's gotten to be a pain.
I hear you!!
