25 Days of Christmas -- Dec. 4-- Nat King Cole, by Marsha Meyer
The song, "I'm the Happiest Christmas Tree" was written by Carol Lynn, and sung by Nathanial Adams Coles, or, as we know him, Nat King Cole. I can't find out doodley squat about either the song or when he sang it. It isn't listed on his song lists, and I have no idea of the date.
Nat King Cole passed away of lung cancer on February 15, 1965, and was recording up until December of 1964. I can't even find his Christmas albums on the list of albums ...
At any rate, I remember this song from when I was a kid-- although it was not necessarily a pop hit. I also remember it from the movie Christmas Vacation , with Chevy Chase, when he said, "I'm the hap hap happiest Christmas Tree since Bing Crosby tap-danced with Danny fucking Kaye." Clark Griswold sure had a way with words...
It has become a sort of staple for Christmas Children's programs in the little kid world, and is a cute little song! It's also short, at 1:29!
Have a great day!
Red Box Rules
Have fun, but please don't be mean to each other!
Yes, just by adding the red box rule, some won't participate, and some will think its No Fun At All, if we can't be mean...
But, I hope that all of us can listen to this short little ditty and be happy!
Classic tune and Chevy reference Dowser.
When I first saw this one, I couldn't believe they were on the same stage.
BTW-rules are for people who don't know any better.
I couldn't open your video...
What a duo! very nice video!!
Teary -eyed.....but still, a good story.
Dear One, I have a couple of songs that they sung together! Found them and downloaded those suckers! Maybe, I can use one later!
They sing a nice duet, to me!!!
Thank you, so much, for coming by!
Hmmmmm. I don't know what's wrong! But let me try this:
If this doesn't work, try this! LINK
I don't have this one, and will look for it-- its a great contribuion-- Thanks!!
nope...neither one worked...
Me, too! on both counts!
Thanks LR...sniff..sniff
How beautiful!
My Grandpa, Uncle Louie and I used to sing this in German-- not necessarily out of key, but not so well-blended, for sure!
I'[m glad you enjoyed it Dear Dowser. I had never heard of this group until a friend of mine sent a few of their videos...I really like them,,
I do, too! I've got one of these instruments, but it is the devil to tune-- and it won't stay in tune... I'm through buying less expensive instruments-- they don't work! BUT, when the hammer dulcimer works, it is so pretty...
NOW I know what one looks like! Have you learned how to play any songs on it yet?
Looking forward to each new tune, Dowser.
Kind of like those Christmas calendars, where every day you open the date, and surprise, surprise, there is a piece of chocolate behind it.
Egads, it is tuned in 5ths, AND the scale is in a circle. Nope, can't figure it out. Maybe with some of the new videos that are up now, but not when I got it, years ago. Plus, there are no markings on it. I tried to put a piece of paper under the strings to sort of act like a guide for what note is where, and well, THAT didn't work. I found that no matter where I sat, I saw the notes differently. No way to memorize anything, and since it won't hold a tune, well, I nearly lost my mind.
I'm hoping the hurdy gurdy is going to hold a tune, and since it is arranged like a piano, be a lot easier to understand. Not only that, but it is a normal chromatic scale not all mixed up. The nice thing about the hammer dulcimer is this: no matter how badly tuned, or how lost I am, it sounds beautiful! Just don't try to play an actual song, on it...
I have an appalachian dulcimer, too, and it was MUCH easier to play. One note at a time, the other strings stayed as they were, as drones. The only trouble with it was, if you wanted to play in a different key, you had to retune it.
UGH!
Right now, mine is missing a string, and I just haven't replaced it. Of course, my banjo is also missing a string, and the bridge is lying flat against the head, and it needs some work. Next up: A trip to the music store!
Oh, don, thank you!!! You are such a treasure! When you're off fishing somewhere in the cold, I really miss you!
and
RW, if you can find the titles of the album, and I can look up what was on it-- I will try to locate the songs and make a CD for you. Bing Crosby and a few Tennessee Ernies... If you want what I've got on a CD, I'll make it and send it to you!
Very cute song! Thanks for posting it!!
flame, thanks so much for coming by!
For the first time in years, I'm enjoying Christmas music again!
What a catchy tune! That's so cute! Very clever lyrics!
John, thanks! That adds so much! Great song!
I knew you would like it Dowser, and Nona.........and I do John!!
Thanks, I love it!
