25 Days of Christmas Music, Dec. 2 -- by Marsha Meyer
We are all probably sick of this song, since it has been adopted by Target as a Christmas ad. However, I just love this somewhat "boozy" version by Dean Martin.
Totally politically incorrect for these days, back then, in 1966, "It's a Marshmallow World" was wonderful! All of us sang it, as if we were three sheets to the wind, and laughed uproariously. Daddy, who couldn't carry a tune, never-the-less got the "boozy" part right! With his dark, curly hair, and ability to do anything while utterly potted, Daddy could make the song come to life!
1966 was the year of The Christmas Tree fiasco. Daddy won a Christmas Tree in a poker game, and brought home a 17' tall tree, that covered up the car and drooped on both ends. It was a lovely tree, but it had no branches on one entire side. So, Daddy dragged it into the house, and cut off the bottom, spending the afternoon drilling holes in the side with no branches and stuffing in branches he had trimmed from the end he cut off...
The song was written by Peter DeRose and Carl Sigman in 1949, and was covered by many singers of the day, including Bing Crosby, Darlene Love, Vic Ramone, and Arthur Godfrey. Bing's hit was the most famous, as it peaked at the #24 spot on the pop singles chart of 1951. However, I always like Dean's rendition best. And it surely beats Target's version!
So, here it is: It's a Marshmallow World by the one and only Dino Martin!
Remember, if your Christmas tree has no branches on one side, it will go well against a wall... Or you can always fix it like Daddy did!
Hope all of you have a great day tomorrow!
Love,
Marsha
The Ghosts of Christmas Past-- Now, our trees are fake and perfect-- and the needles don't stop up the vacume, AND I spray pine scent...
There are ways and means of making our own Christmas memories!
That is one of my favorites! I loved him!!!
Fortunately, this one was not on my list! I have another little song by him to share, later...
He was just so wonderful...
Ya just can't go wrong with Kristin Chenoweth [& John Pizzarelli ... whoever that is ]
I don't think there will ever be another voice like his. I love the way they have been able to blend Natalie Cole with her father in some songs. I'm glad you enjoyed it. I love it. I see you have two articles up and I couldn't find it. I knew I had put it up, but figured I'd messed up, but glad to see it stuck. LOL
I don't either! He was so fabulous!
I've had a time too... Everything is wonderful, and then, I can't post a comment. and then, I can... Who knows?
I love this song-- it is truly one of my favorites!
Pretty girl! And she has a great voice! Who is the guy singing with her?
I enjoyed this, too!!
Dean Martin is my favorite rat-packer. Not ashamed to admit I have more than one of his albums/CDs.
Don, I loved him, too! Sure is a shame he's dead... Of course, he'd be in his 90s or so, and no one's brain can survive all those years of booze.
Beautiful song, John! I love it! She has a wonderful voice, doesn't she! The sentiment of the song, really makes it special! Thanks for posting it!
Very nice song John and she has such a wonderful voice.
Bob Marley was great! However, I must admit that I had no idea he was singing, "White Christmas". What a shame he is gone... Great song! Thanks!
She really does!
This one is great, too!! Good old Dino-- he always seemed so "cool"! Potted, but cool! Times have surely changed, haven't they?
BF, are you sure that isn't Elvis and the Gang? Loved the song.
OH, I love this!! Thank you so much for posting it! I'm going to have to find this on Amazon and download it!
Then, dance around the house...
Personally, when I sing, it sounds like a cross between Rod Stewart and Foghorn Leghorn...
Bah humbug, I say.
This one is on my list, just the 'original' version! I like, for sure! Thanks!! Love to you!
