Steelers Accuse Patriots Of Cheating On Opening Night

Steelers Accuse Patriots Of Cheating On Opening Night

Steelers.com - The Official Site Of The Pittsburgh Steelers

"NO SURPRISE AT ALL
This is the kind of stuff that happens to the visiting team in Gillette Stadium all the time. From the start of the game through the opening 14 minutes of the first quarter, the Steelers coaches headsets were receiving the Patriots Radio Network broadcast of the game. The broadcast was so loud that the Steelers coaches were unable to communicate, and the NFL rule is that if one teams headsets are not working the other team is supposed to be forced to take their headsets off. Its what the NFL calls the Equity Rule.

Strangely enough, whenever an NFL representative proceeded to the New England sideline to shut down their headsets, the Steelers headsets cleared. Then as the representative walked away from the New England sideline, the Steelers headsets again started to receive the Patriots game broadcast."

When I said the ESPN story the other day showed that the Patriots legacy was tainted, I had people telling me I was crazy. Now this. I hear twitter is abuzz with this story. The Patriots will be tainted with cheating suspicions from now into the foreseeable future. Maybe 50 years from now people will forget about it.

They were talking about this last evening live, immediately, as it was happening during the game. The word though last night was that the Pat's broadcast bleed into the Steelers headset was not overwhelming their ability to communicate. Strange. Either way, the Steelers looked good moving the ball, and set some pretty decent edges on defense, but had a hard time putting the ball in the end zone.

Glad the NFL is back on!

:~)

Actually,,,

There was a play somewhat early on where the Pats where on Goal line defense and shifted the entire line, drawing the Steelers offside. To me, that is the definition of making the most of a rule not yet written...

Tomlin found out where Gronk was by listening to the game on his headset.

If they're that good they shouldn't have to cheat.

The NFL says the New England Patriots had nothing to do with audio interference that rendered the Pittsburgh Steelers ' coaching headsets useless during the first quarter on opening night Thursday.

Spokesman Michael Signora said Friday that the league believes the problem "involved no manipulation by any individual and that the Patriots had nothing to do with it."

The statement said the problem was "entirely attributable to an electrical issue made worse by the inclement weather" and that the league "will continue to review the matter to determine if there are technical steps that can be taken to avoid similar problems from occurring in other games."

"We have provided information to NFL representatives regarding issues that occurred Thursday night at Gillette Stadium with our coach-to-coach headset communications system," Steelers spokesman Burt Lauten said in a statement. "The problem was addressed during the game and we did not have further problems in the second half. We did not file a formal complaint, nor do we plan to do so."

The Patriots say their communications also were interfered with. The NFL took responsibility for the breakdown, saying it controls communications equipment, including headsets, for both teams.

And if Patriot fans were better people they wouldn't laugh so hard when they see the big tough Steelers coach whining.

All I see Patriots fans do is be dismissive and make jokes. ESPN had a very detailed report that said quite plainly that the Patriots have been cheating for years and years. I'll take their word over that of patriots fans if you don't mind.

ESPN's hot scoop, repackaging ten year old news?

Sports "journalists" desperate to be seen as significant.

Other than aging, gullible Bears fans still living 1985, ESPN embarrassed itself. As did the Steelers coach.

Just admire the Patriot's greatness, John, and wish it would touch Chicago again. Or maybe you can lobby the NFL to give out good citizen participation trophies, everybody gets one, in place of the Lombardi Trophy.

Too many.

The Bears are probably an 8-8 team.

Belichick: (link)

But Id just say on, kind of tying this in with a couple things from last week, or earlier in the week, I just think overall its kind sad, really, to see some stories written that obviously have an agenda to them with misinformation and anonymous type comments. Writing about warm drinks and trash cans and stuff like that. I mean its just, I think its a sad commentary and its really a very, its gone to a pretty low level. Its sunk pretty deep. First of all I would say that our program here is built on competition and trying to improve every day and trying to work hard. And its not built on excuses. And we just try to go to work and improve and find a way to get better.

8-8 should be the goal. To not hurt too many feelings. To not give the impression that winning is important.

To lose graciously. To lose, when it seemed like you had the game locked up. To snatch defeat from the jaws of victory.

America, 2015.
