Connecticut veteran to receive WWII medals 7 decades later
GREENWICH, Conn. The long wait is almost over for a Connecticut veteran who did not receive military medals for his World War II service nearly seven decades ago.
U.S. Sen. Richard Blumenthal is set to finally present the medals to 91-year-old Vincent Meli at a senior home in Greenwich on Monday morning.
The former U.S. Army private 1st class operated heavy equipment and drove trucks in central Europe, France and Germany. He never received his medals when he left the military.
Meli will receive the Army Good Conduct Medal, the American Campaign Medal, the European-African-Middle Eastern Campaign Medal with Bronze Star Attachment, the World War II Victory Medal, the Marksman Badge and Rifle Bar, and the Honorable Service World War II lapel pin.
