Trump tosses the book at Columbia
Columbia has decided that it will not accept U.S. military aircraft with migrants being deported.
President Trump has responded:
Columbia will now face tariffs of 25% on all Colombian goods coming into the United States and that may rise to 50% in one week.
Columbian officials will be banned from the US.
More may follow.
It may be best to do as he asks.
This is a developing story.
that criminal/traitor pile of maga shit can go fuck himself ...
Trump is doing what he was elected to do.
Resistance is futile.
It took an hour for Columbia to back down and agree to take back their own citizens.
It's that easy. But for decades it was supposedly impossible..
Columbia has accepted 475 flights of illegals between 2020 and 2024. 124 flights in 2024.
Not the point.
Columbia accepted those flights during the Biden admin. My guess is there were no more than 2 or three on each flight.
Columbia decided to not accept flights during the Trump admin. Contrary to some claims here that he acts recklessly, he made his demands and Columbia agreed.
Trump is a negotiator by nature. Columbia found that out and lost.
Actually it is the point. When you don’t have facts you make guesses, 2 to 3 on each flight. LMAO.
Not a very good one, since Biden sent 475 flights with no threats and Trump fucked up and the first two of his were turned back so he has to institute tariffs etc.
Columbia announced that it had instituted 25% tariffs on American imports. Tit for Tat and the more interesting things is that the US had a trade surplus with Columbia…In addition Columbia is one of our closets allies in Central America and we have a free trade agreement with them. Let’s see how that is gong to work.
Apparently - from what little I’ve read on the subject - the difference is that Trump is using military aircraft. If the destination countries see this as threatening, that’s understandable.
That is my understanding as well, Tacos.
It is understood leftists don't know sarcasm
"Not a very good one, since Biden sent 475 flights with no threats and Trump fucked up and the first two of his were turned back so he has to institute tariffs etc. "
It was only stopped because Trump is now president.
"Columbia announced that it had instituted 25% tariffs on American imports."
Probably not going to happen. my understanding is the Columbian president offered up his presidential plane to help bring back those illegals.
Considering many of those were on commercial flights that's not unreasonable.
It is understood that righties are light on facts
Do you have a point, or just excuses.
Good you might want to try and figure out why Columbia refused the flights.
What is more threatening is the US getting its Coffee from Brazil and its Bananas from Guatemala.
That leaves Columbia without a prime market. Unsold goods sitting in warehouses to go with drug lords & mosquitos.
However, this just came in:
"Colombian President Gustavo Petro offered his presidential plane to repatriate migrants coming back from the U.S. on Sunday in response to stern warnings made by President Donald Trump.
The move came after Trump hit the South American country with retaliatory measures in response to Petro's refusal to accept deportation flights. A former member of the M-19, which was a Marxist guerrilla terrorist group that killed hundreds, Petro caved in to Trump's demands with remarkable speed. Trump told Fox News Petro did a total about-face after his tariff threat.
In a statement translated from Spanish, the Colombian government said the plane will help facilitate a "dignified return."
Colombia's Gustavo Petro quickly backtracks after Trump threats over deportation flights | Fox News
I see no reason why we wouldn’t be able to get coffee or bananas from Columbia. A tariff is not an embargo. You can still buy coffee. It will just cost more.
It won't cost more from Brazil and as it turns out not even from Columbia.
Case closed
What do you mean? If there is a tariff on anything, the price goes up.
Even with the "resistance" between 2017 and 2021 he was successful.
Trump thinks that because other countries are more dependent on the US for trade than vice versa that gives him the right to dictate their internal policies.
This is virtual colonialism on a massive scale.
Yes, a country thinking it can force another to accept migrants tin violation of it's laws is a form of colonialism. Good for Trump for opposing it. Columbia has no right to plant citizens here in violation of American law.
Nah, it's MAGA diplomacy. It seems to work quite well...
Illegal immigrants are illegal, period.
Sorry if you (collectively Democrats and leftists) don't like it.
Trump is enforcing our borders and immigration laws; something Brandon and Democrats claimed was impossible.
Come to the US the right way or don't come at all.
By the way; do you know what the fuck colonialism means?
Merriam-Webster disagrees with your definition.
Trump forcing Columbia to take their own people back; by using sanctions and tariffs is in no way shape or form colonialism. He is not turning their government into a puppet of the US. Which the US did plenty of in South America previously.
Columbia has taken back over 400 flights from the US of illegals between 2020 and 2024.
DUH
Then what's the problem, do you think?
It's really amazing how progressives reflexively take the side of any foreign government in a dispute with the US.
These are people in our country illegally being returned to their homeland. A foreign government tried to refuse to let its own citizens return to their country, in violation of its legal obligations, and progressives side with the foreign government. Unbelievable.
Coffee drinkers are gonna be PIIIISSED.....
Hopefully trump doesn't have any issues with italy. I can't do without my morning espresso
Yeah, I guess the strategy to bring down the price of bacon and eggs is to jack up the price on coffee?
I'm paying $4.89 a dozen for extra large right now.
Can remember 4 yrs ago it was just under $3
As for bacon, I make my own and not just from pork, cheaper and healthier.
columbia backed down.
Good. I was worried for a bit than Hunter Biden was going to have a harder time getting his nose candy.
You bet!
There’s not much to back down from. They have been accepting deported Colombian citizens for pretty much always. Trump has switched to using military aircraft and treating the deported people with unnecessary cruelty. That tactic is creating problems, not solving them.
There is NOTHING cruel about using them. A C-130 or C-17 are perfectly good aircraft. No need for an improved runway, can be set up in several different configurations depending on the cargo / passengers carried...
Using military aircraft also provides a training element those involved.
Damn, I guess the world needs the US more than we need them.
Notice to the rest of the planet- play nice with us or go fuck yourselves.
Now if we can only get Trump to say that to the entire ME; including Israel.
So it seems Trump has gotten what he wanted. The more times he uses these type of tactics yet comes away with positive results the more trouble many on the left will have trashing them. I am not saying they won't, only that it will chip away at their already diminishing credibility.
Another WIN for AMERICA.
You just thought coffee and eggs were expensive...
You missed it. The little Marxist leader caved in.
Took about an hour before he volunteered to pay for the flights.
It takes a Marxist that long to figure out that his neighbors can fill the void on Coffee & Bananas.
He was a murderer and should be treated as the thug he is.
Not really. Commodities like that are purchased on multi-year contracts. Starbucks, for example, has huge contracts to both buy coffee from Columbia, and promote farming in that country. Contracts like that are negotiated on terms of multiple years. They don’t just evaporate because some idiot decided to impose a tariff.
You think that your double latte with 5 half pumps of cream and foam is going to go up because of it? That multi-year contract also has a price tag attached. Tariffs that are put into place after negotiations are not included in that price. So your already overpriced foo foo drink won't increase in price.
Did Liz Warren send you a copy of that memo? It makes her look like the queen of third grade.
You think Colombia is the only place that grows coffee?
JBB
Colombia is not the only exporter of coffee (20% of world exports) but it seems they value those $ more than have a showdown with Trump.
Look for similar options being given to other countries of of those being deported
