Trump tosses the book at Colombia
Colombia has decided that it will not accept U.S. military aircraft with migrants being deported.
President Trump has responded:
Colombia will now face tariffs of 25% on all Colombian goods coming into the United States and that may rise to 50% in one week.
Colombian officials will be banned from the US.
More may follow.
It may be best to do as he asks.
This is a developing story.
that criminal/traitor pile of maga shit can go fuck himself ...
Oh. Somebody's feelings hurt?
Trump is doing what he was elected to do.
Resistance is futile.
It took an hour for Columbia to back down and agree to take back their own citizens.
It's that easy. But for decades it was supposedly impossible..
Columbia has accepted 475 flights of illegals between 2020 and 2024. 124 flights in 2024.
Not the point.
Columbia accepted those flights during the Biden admin. My guess is there were no more than 2 or three on each flight.
Columbia decided to not accept flights during the Trump admin. Contrary to some claims here that he acts recklessly, he made his demands and Columbia agreed.
Trump is a negotiator by nature. Columbia found that out and lost.
Actually it is the point. When you don’t have facts you make guesses, 2 to 3 on each flight. LMAO.
Not a very good one, since Biden sent 475 flights with no threats and Trump fucked up and the first two of his were turned back so he has to institute tariffs etc.
Columbia announced that it had instituted 25% tariffs on American imports. Tit for Tat and the more interesting things is that the US had a trade surplus with Columbia…In addition Columbia is one of our closets allies in Central America and we have a free trade agreement with them. Let’s see how that is gong to work.
Apparently - from what little I’ve read on the subject - the difference is that Trump is using military aircraft. If the destination countries see this as threatening, that’s understandable.
That is my understanding as well, Tacos.
It is understood leftists don't know sarcasm
"Not a very good one, since Biden sent 475 flights with no threats and Trump fucked up and the first two of his were turned back so he has to institute tariffs etc. "
It was only stopped because Trump is now president.
"Columbia announced that it had instituted 25% tariffs on American imports."
Probably not going to happen. my understanding is the Columbian president offered up his presidential plane to help bring back those illegals.
Considering many of those were on commercial flights that's not unreasonable.
It is understood that righties are light on facts
Do you have a point, or just excuses.
Good you might want to try and figure out why Columbia refused the flights.
What is more threatening is the US getting its Coffee from Brazil and its Bananas from Guatemala.
That leaves Columbia without a prime market. Unsold goods sitting in warehouses to go with drug lords & mosquitos.
However, this just came in:
"Colombian President Gustavo Petro offered his presidential plane to repatriate migrants coming back from the U.S. on Sunday in response to stern warnings made by President Donald Trump.
The move came after Trump hit the South American country with retaliatory measures in response to Petro's refusal to accept deportation flights. A former member of the M-19, which was a Marxist guerrilla terrorist group that killed hundreds, Petro caved in to Trump's demands with remarkable speed. Trump told Fox News Petro did a total about-face after his tariff threat.
In a statement translated from Spanish, the Colombian government said the plane will help facilitate a "dignified return."
Colombia's Gustavo Petro quickly backtracks after Trump threats over deportation flights | Fox News
I see no reason why we wouldn’t be able to get coffee or bananas from Columbia. A tariff is not an embargo. You can still buy coffee. It will just cost more.
It won't cost more from Brazil and as it turns out not even from Columbia.
Case closed
What do you mean? If there is a tariff on anything, the price goes up.
Even with the "resistance" between 2017 and 2021 he was successful.
For Colombia. There are other countries that will gladly take up the slack when Colombia fails to pay the tariffs.
What tariffs, there are no tariffs on Columbia…
it won’t cost more since there are no tariffs on Columbia products…
Oh, for the uniformed the US has had a free trade agreement with Columbia since 2012 so if dumb ass instituted a tariff he would be breaking another agreement.
Amazing how there have been over 400 deportee flight in the last 4 years without a problem and the first two from Trump have problems, perhaps it’s his big mouth overloading his fat ass.
Now that they capitulated there aren't
Colombia wouldn’t pay the tariffs. Exporters don’t pay tariffs. Tariffs are paid by importers. The money is collected by US Customs when the item comes into the country, and the money goes to the Department of the Treasury. The importer then passes that cost on to distributors, who pass it on to retailers, who pass it on to consumers.
American consumers will pay the tariffs, not Colombia. A tariff functions as a tax on our own people.
You're right. They won't. They capitulated.
Oh how little you know.
Trump thinks that because other countries are more dependent on the US for trade than vice versa that gives him the right to dictate their internal policies.
This is virtual colonialism on a massive scale.
Yes, a country thinking it can force another to accept migrants tin violation of it's laws is a form of colonialism. Good for Trump for opposing it. Columbia has no right to plant citizens here in violation of American law.
Nah, it's MAGA diplomacy. It seems to work quite well...
Illegal immigrants are illegal, period.
Sorry if you (collectively Democrats and leftists) don't like it.
Trump is enforcing our borders and immigration laws; something Brandon and Democrats claimed was impossible.
Come to the US the right way or don't come at all.
By the way; do you know what the fuck colonialism means?
Merriam-Webster disagrees with your definition.
Trump forcing Columbia to take their own people back; by using sanctions and tariffs is in no way shape or form colonialism. He is not turning their government into a puppet of the US. Which the US did plenty of in South America previously.
Columbia has taken back over 400 flights from the US of illegals between 2020 and 2024.
DUH
Then what's the problem, do you think?
She has been a US citizen since 2006. she worked for 6 jobs before being officially OK to work them. Are you suggesting we go back almost 20 years and revoke all citizenships for anyone that did not go through all the proper channels from day 1 of getting here? Maybe we should start with all the non citizens that are here illegally.
It's really amazing how progressives reflexively take the side of any foreign government in a dispute with the US.
These are people in our country illegally being returned to their homeland. A foreign government tried to refuse to let its own citizens return to their country, in violation of its legal obligations, and progressives side with the foreign government. Unbelievable.
By forcing a country to accept their citizens? What kind of backward thinking in that?
Coffee drinkers are gonna be PIIIISSED.....
Hopefully trump doesn't have any issues with italy. I can't do without my morning espresso
Yeah, I guess the strategy to bring down the price of bacon and eggs is to jack up the price on coffee?
I'm paying $4.89 a dozen for extra large right now.
Can remember 4 yrs ago it was just under $3
As for bacon, I make my own and not just from pork, cheaper and healthier.
columbia backed down.
Good. I was worried for a bit than Hunter Biden was going to have a harder time getting his nose candy.
You bet!
There’s not much to back down from. They have been accepting deported Colombian citizens for pretty much always. Trump has switched to using military aircraft and treating the deported people with unnecessary cruelty. That tactic is creating problems, not solving them.
There is NOTHING cruel about using them. A C-130 or C-17 are perfectly good aircraft. No need for an improved runway, can be set up in several different configurations depending on the cargo / passengers carried...
Using military aircraft also provides a training element those involved.
I’m pretty sure Columbia’s beef with their treatment was not about the model of airplane, but more about their citizens being needlessly handcuffed and chained.
Well, that's what you do with criminals when you transport them.
It is only allowed when transporting dangerous US criminals. If they don't like it they could always walk back to Colombia.
This is what you do with those that are prone to run.
Do you think they’re going to run from the airplane? It’s a long way to the ground.
Good thing that's where they were headed.
Yes because having dozens of illegals on a plane with only a few people guarding them is always the best bet s/
If there is one guard per illegal, fine. If not, there is always the chance of an uprising. We've seen it on the ground.
Suddenly all the internet warriors are experts on the protocols for transporting deportees.
See 4.3.11. Same goes for you.
Basically, if it's happening under Trump, it's infallible, right?
You could always google how the US transports criminals. Hint. It is called JPAT. Although it is specific to transport within the US illegals should not get better treatment than our citizen criminals
Damn, I guess the world needs the US more than we need them.
Notice to the rest of the planet- play nice with us or go fuck yourselves.
Now if we can only get Trump to say that to the entire ME; including Israel.
So it seems Trump has gotten what he wanted. The more times he uses these type of tactics yet comes away with positive results the more trouble many on the left will have trashing them. I am not saying they won't, only that it will chip away at their already diminishing credibility.
Another WIN for AMERICA.
You just thought coffee and eggs were expensive...
You missed it. The little Marxist leader caved in.
Took about an hour before he volunteered to pay for the flights.
It takes a Marxist that long to figure out that his neighbors can fill the void on Coffee & Bananas.
He was a murderer and should be treated as the thug he is.
Not really. Commodities like that are purchased on multi-year contracts. Starbucks, for example, has huge contracts to both buy coffee from Columbia, and promote farming in that country. Contracts like that are negotiated on terms of multiple years. They don’t just evaporate because some idiot decided to impose a tariff.
You think that your double latte with 5 half pumps of cream and foam is going to go up because of it? That multi-year contract also has a price tag attached. Tariffs that are put into place after negotiations are not included in that price. So your already overpriced foo foo drink won't increase in price.
Wow. You really got some issues there. Foo foo? Are you trying to say my coffee is gay or something? Did you just run out of grown up ways to express yourself?
Nope. Not a single issue.
Nope. Called it what it is. Although it is cute you call it "coffee".
Ah, the personal insult. You must not have anything of value to add.
You haven’t done anything of the kind. You made up some fantasy out of whole cloth just to deflect and be insulting.
You don’t even know if I drink coffee, much less how I take it. Nevertheless, you decided to attack the coffee drink you imagine I enjoy as having excess “cream and foam” and being “foo foo” - as a proxy for attacking me. Like, what the actual fuck?
There it is! And then, like so many conservatives these days who engage in this childish bullshit and get called on it, you have the temerity to pretend you’re the one being attacked. You want to imagine you were just trying to discuss the topic in a mature fashion, when what you were really doing is trolling.
You found it insulting. Am I supposed to care?
I don't care if you do or not. I don't care how you take it. I don't care about YOU.
Did Liz Warren send you a copy of that memo? It makes her look like the queen of third grade.
You think Colombia is the only place that grows coffee?
JBB
Colombia is not the only exporter of coffee (20% of world exports) but it seems they value those $ more than have a showdown with Trump.
Look for similar options being given to other countries of of those being deported
The right wingers on this site spell the word Colombia about as accurately as Trump does. /s
I direct you to 2.3.1, 7.1.3, 4.3.3
Are these posters now right wing? Are you insulting them as you are Trump?
You’re not wrong about the spelling, but I think it’s a common mistake - made all the easier by the spelling from the seed. It’s not indicative of anything nefarious.
We are only one week into Trump's second term and he has done more positive things in that week than Biden AND Harris did their entire 4 years.....
Hell, who am I kidding. He did more positive things his first day than they did in their 4 years.
Thank you President Trump and VP Vance.
Colombian president is another Marxist degenerate. He got popped in Panama with a troon.
Part of 7.1 was locked to keep things from getting worse
