Alternate fuels, EVs, ... the news is a flood, every day. It's hard to keep up.

There is info out there that is wildly out of date, and there is info that Luddites know is false but spread anyway. If you want to keep up, this is where you need to go.
... and bring a grain of salt...
We don't use the derogatory term "luddite" anymore, that would be rude. Those who oppose progress and new technology call themselves 'rightwing white nationalist religious conservatives'.
That really does capture modern rightwing conservative Christians. If this were biblical times they would have turned into pillars of salt long ago. They celebrate selfishness, greed and power and can't imagine giving a penny of charity to any people who don't look like them, pray like them or love like them, all while claiming they are doing their Lord's work when all their Lord ever asked them to do was to be kind, love their God with their whole heart, mind and strength and love their neighbor as themselves. If your average MAGAite ran into Christ today he'd likely punch him in the mouth and call him a godless liberal pussy for even suggesting showing empathy and kindness towards undocumented immigrants.
Hmmm.... Maybe assimilating 'rightwing white nationalist religious conservatives' to Luddites is an insult to Luddites.
Still too expensive, not enough demand, lithium batteries still a fire hazard, not reliable or efficient in North Hemisphere winters.
The current power grid won't be able to handle the charging load.

Do you own an EV?
Not yet. I'm now making appointments for test drives of several cars as soon as we get back to Calais, early May. We ordered a Renault Scénic last Autumn, but the delivery was late so I cancelled.
The Scénic is still a candidate. Over the last six months, new models have come on the market: Kia EV3, Skoda Elroq, Citroën e-C4. There are two nice cars from VW's Spanish EV subsidiary, Cupra... but they're kinda expensive. Two models from Opel - Grandland too big and expensive, Frontera a little too stripped. Cousins of those two from Peugeot have the same problems.
Lots of choice. Nice cars. Affordable.
Tesla's new lower cost Model 2 coming in 2025!
The new production process looks very exciting!
Sure does! What an interesting situation. A domestic car manufacturer whose necessary infrastructure is no longer a priority given Trump is PotUS and Musk is his right-hand guy. I suspect there will be a sufficient push for infrastructure. Will Trump brag about this or hide it?
Agree, as there should be as the market grows and people embrace the technology.
If it is successful he will surely brag about it, otherwise he will blame it on someone else if it falters. Might even blame Musk I would imagine...throw him under the electric bus... so to speak.
The reason I posed the question is because Trump has been decidedly pro-ICE and is a climate denier. He wants to "drill, baby, drill" rather than promote the use of clean, renewable energy.
But Elon arguably put him over the top in the swing states and is his right-hand man. We have a fundamental conflict here. Trump will want to keep Elon content, but his base is anti-EV.
I'm not sure that Trump gives two shits about how content Musk is since he won't be running again and need his campaign contributions. I think if Musk crosses him in any way he'll throw him under the bus like he has many others. I think he MIGHT listen to Musk with respect to electric vehicles and electrical infrastructure but only to the extent that Musk remains onboard with the drill baby drill idea of energy production to provide that power (gas power plants mostly).
Maybe, but if we assume the EV market is already well established and it keeps growing in ways that are profitable, I think Trump's love of money/profit will trump his loyalty to the ICE. Pun very much intended.
Well that would be consistent with how Trump operates with people in general. Musk is a very likely exception being the richest person on the planet.
I do not think Trump gives one shit about loyalty to ICE. It is his base and their preferences that he cares about. Trump is all about celebrity and that translates into polls. He needs to have his fan base. He will do whatever pleases him ... as long as he does not piss off his fan base.
I am waiting for his fan base to realize that they will be hit with higher, not lower prices (among other things) because of Trump's actions. (I recognize that they might never realize this.)
I'll believe in an affordable Tesla when it actually exists.
And... I wouldn't buy a Tesla regardless of price.
Elon will give priority to MAGA.
I doubt Musk gives one shit about MAGA, the concept or the people who support it.
Musk will work around whatever barriers he faces in pursuit of what he wants. Not sure if he wants to be a powerful political force (phantom president) or just wants to exploit his relationships with Trump to line his pockets.
His motivation is certainly NOT altruistic unless Musk has totally changed as a person. And I am sure it is also not based on loyalty to Trump or MAGA.
I agree completely on all points.
I remember when I wanted a Tesla but now I think that if Elon wants my money he'll just loot the treasury.
All of which will resolve itself in time. Just not the asinine timeframes we hear from some people.
... EV detractors are still hoping to recoup their losses in buggy whip and saddle stocks.
What brand of EV or hybrid do you own?
What brand of EV or hybrid do you own?
And apparently the need for battery charging isn't the only inadequacy of our current power grids. It seems that AI uses a lot of power!
And mining Bitcoin.
And I've indeed seen articles that do to the increasing number of ultra hot days, there's been a rapidly increasing need for more powerful air-conditiong.
